Staring out at the sea in front of her, Quartz refused to look directly at Blake as he sat next to her in the empty space she’d kept for him. Her mind ticked with frustration and guilt, still not making up its mind. Her compulsive, automatic distrust in anyone and everyone for so long had caused her mind to forget what it was like to truly put faith in another person (other than her Dad, of course). Her Dad would never leave her, never hurt her – but other people could. Blake could. Hell, anyone could. Surely the fact that Blake had saved her life twice today and that she’d led Blake to this place was enough evidence to prove that she trusted him, right?

You caught me, she thought to herself once Blake settled into his sitting position, limbs just a few mere centimetres from her skin. Somehow I couldn’t slip through your fingers.

And then it hit her.

She did not entrust emotion in anyone, because her entire life, she’d been slowly brainwashed in fear by the Capitol. Every year, she’d been forced to watch brothers, sisters, mothers, fathers, lovers, friends – watch them all rip themselves apart as loved ones were sent off to their deaths and have to watch them suffer four hours, days, weeks. Bleed out on the ground, get beaten to a pulp, poisoned, ripped apart by muttations, spear through the back, ~~drown~~, arrow through the heart. The possibilities were seemingly endless, and they had to watch it unfold. Even if they were lucky enough to have someone come back, everyone changes in the arena. You don’t get back your friend, son, daughter, brother, sister, lover. Once their name is drawn, is goodbye for good. What was the point if her future could end up like that? What if she herself was reaped? Heaven forbid it – but still. It could happen. Could she let herself risk that? And not only risk one more reaping, but the other wild ideas swimming around her head. Cheating, lying, teasing, distance, being ignored. You hear about it from whispered rumours in school and around town from silly little girls you can’t believe are your own age and pretend to care, never thinking it could happen to you. Because you’re too strong. Too independent. Too... dubious. Could Quartz risk that?

No.

Yes.

No.

I. Don’t. Know.

The sound of Blake’s voice brought Quartz’s attention back to the real world. It was nice, having a distraction from her flimsy thoughts that could expand and shrink in the blink of an eye. The delicate sound of waves against the sandy shores calmed her a little, dipping her healthy foot into the water, appreciative of the icy nips at her toes that kept her level-headed. She couldn’t let her thoughts run away with her again.

“So, basically, no one else knows about this place? Just you? And now me, I guess?"

[/b] he asked, and Quartz nodded in response. [/color] “Yup. Well, my Dad does. But I only come here. Never seen anyone here before, at least. It’s nice though, having this little secret spot that no-one knows about, like the Capitol just forgot about it, or something,” she explained truthfully, finding herself rambling on a little. But the ocean had that affect on her – her mind seemed clearer and easier to understand. Explainable, even to herself.

As she talked, Quartz felt Blake’s arm sneak around her shoulders. She must have been looking cold, maybe shivering a little, not realising it herself. A twinge of guilt struck her as she thought of Blake, who still hadn’t gotten himself a t-shirt. Although she tensed up a little at his touch, she knew it was important to share as much body heat as possible when cold, so scooted up a little under his arm and rested her head on his arm, staring out into the ocean as she thought.

It’s complicated, they’d say, when they stumbled across a confusing math problem at school. It’s complicated, they’d say, when people weren’t sure what orders where being processed to the Capitol and which fishing nets were being sent to which shop. It’s complicated, they’d say, when you liked someone a lot, enough to want to spend time with them and only them, and almost drowned twice in one day, and had someone save your life and had a food fight in your kitchen and let them kiss you, but just didn’t know where your head, or your heart, was. And that’s just how Quartz felt. Complicated. She’d kissed him. Check. She’d felt something. Check. She was now sitting curled up underneath his arms, leaning into his shoulder. Check. She wanted to be more than friends? Sorry, Quartz isn’t available right now. Please leave a message after the beep, and try again later.

She needed reassurance. Absolute reassurance that she was going to be ok. That they, whatever they was, were going to be ok. And she needed to hear it from Blake. Turning her head to face his, Quartz looked up at Blake from her position on his shoulder and hoped her face looked solemn enough to let him know she was beings serious.

”Sorry for running off like that,” she said quietly. ”It’s just... confusing, I guess.” Hoping she didn’t screw up what she was trying to say next, she trekked on. ”It’s not your fault or anything, it’s mine. I don’t... I don’t really trust, that well. At all. I mean, I can, but... what I’m trying to say is that... I need security. I need to know that I’m not just gonna end up miserable. I need to... to know that you’re not just using me” she rushed. ”And I know that’s really shallow of me, and needy, and whatever else, but... yeah. I'm the package deal or nothing” she finished, feeling her cheeks burn scarlett at her sudden opening up to Blake, spine rigid and tense, braced for his reaction.

The silence lingered from when she last spoke, as Blake could only smile, staring out into the sea. It was nice and peaceful here, and anyone could just sit out here at stare out into the sea. There was nothing wrong with it. There was no view of the Capitol, no disasters, no arena, no Hunger Games. It was just the sea, calmly swaying back and forth, whilst the clouds softly drift upon the sky. If you thought about it, the sea and the sky weren't so different from each other. I mean sure, the sky is all the way up there, but still. They were both blue, large, and just looking at either of them, was like letting peace quiet flow into your body. The silence was nice, but he wasn't sure whether Quartz liked it or not. He didn't know whether or not to break it, or keep it. Then, answer was told. By Quartz.

Is that really how she felt? Blake felt as if he had done a good job so far, containing his douchey-ness. Containing the inner-jerk that people hated about him oh so much. But now, this just hurt him. It hurt him, but also made him angry. His arm left her shoulder, as he began to stand up. He was angry, but sad at the same time. He was having a moment. A emotional panic attack, if you will. He took a few steps back, leaving his footprints in the shifty grains of sand. His eyes glance beamed out towards the treeline, as he shoved his ankles around, spinning his whole body. His mouth opened and he began to speak, a hurt tone within his voice.

"Quartz, do you really think I'd just do that? I mean, I know we've only known each other for so many hours, but still. I-.. I thought we had trusted each other. I thought we knew what each other was really like- Who we really were. I know I don't seem like the best guy, I'm pretty screwed up, and I know I seem like the kind of guy who dismisses friends, girlfriends, with a command of my voice, but I'm not that kind of person. That's-... Like another me. I've shown you the real me, and if you still think that I'd just use you-.." His voice was raising throughout his talking, though it seemed to valiantly lighten as he came to the last part of his 'speech'. It seemed to be in a more sad, understanding tone, as before it was in a more hurt, angry one. "Look, if you still don't trust me, after everything.. I don't know what to say. The only thing I can say, is that I assure you, I promise you, that I will not use you as anything other then a human being. I swear.

Pain; that's all that was in his eyes right now. He thought he had gotten to her, and showed him who he really was. Who he wanted to always be. Who he struggled to try and be. But obviously, she hadn't seen it yet. All she saw was the douche everyone else saw. The one everyone thought he was at first glance. A bad book was all he was to her. One judged simply by it's cover and first page. She hadn't gotten the real depth of him. The kind that she could find if she just went a little further in his book. She didn't though, and it just confused him. He had gotten her, even felt something spark between them, and now, he was beginning to doubt whether or not she felt the same way.

Did she just drag him out here, to her 'secret' beach, so she could get this over with. Just tell him he wasn't worth her time- Or that he wasn't who he made out to be? Was she just here, because she had intended to try and get away in the first place? No... She showed him where she lived. She showed him her real self. Well, at least he thought she did. Conflict and doubt and compassion was having a heated war in his mind. He couldn't keep it under control. He was getting emotional; something he rarely showed, let alone did. He moved back over to where Quartz was still hopefully sitting, and sat down next to her again. He felt bad, bursting out in anger like that, but he hadn't a choice. It felt right at the time. he felt as if he had figured the whole situation out. But now, he was going to resolve it, and they were going to solve it. Solve it together.

"Look, Quartz. I promise to you, from the bottom of my heart, that I will not use you, at any time or place. I will do anything you want of me, and I'll do everything I can to make you a happy person. Alright? just please tell me you understand.

Hopefully, he had gotten to her. Hopefully, this whole thing could be left behind and they could be together then. Be who he imagined them to be. He wanted to be with her for life. Hopefully, he had gotten to the Quartz inside her heart. Her true self. The one he fell in love with.

The moment Quartz felt Blake's arm leave her shoulder, she knew she'd said the wrong thing. God dammit, this is exactly the reason why she never did the whole telling-everyone-about-my-feelings thing. She always screwed it up. Always. She made people angry and upset and distant. This was why she didn't get close to people - because no-one like the real her, what she said, what she felt. Hell, she herself didn't like the real her. Why would she think anyone else would?

Cringing as Blake walked away from her; she scooped up her legs and tucked her chin on top of her folded arms that wrapped around her limbs. Her forehead slapped against her forearm muscles, sighing in agitation. Stupid Quartz, she thought angrily, can't even keep it together for 5 goddamn minutes without spilling out rubbish. Nerves began to bubble up inside of her, and she hated it. She despised the way that they just... stayed there, reminding her that she wasn't allowed to feel ok at the moment, feeling sick with insecurity. She hated the way that she couldn't remove them, quick like a band aid, then gone; not even ignore them like she would with so many other things in her life. They just stayed there, hovering inside of her, wishing that she couldn't feel anything at all. At least it'd be easier.

Quartz wouldn’t be surprised if Blake had left her on her own, not bothering to look back behind her. Instead, she raised her head to stare enviously at the water – wanting desperately to jump in it and escape. Perhaps, if she closed her eyes tight enough, once she’d open them again she’d find herself back in her bed, awake from a bad dream. Her foot wouldn’t be injured, and she could get up and cook eggs with her father for breakfast and spend the entire day swimming until she was dragged out at twilight before she caught her death in the rapidly cooling waters, tucked up with a book in her bed and a mug of hot chocolate. Childishly, she let herself attempt her mad theory – but as her eyelids opened up she had already known the inevitable truth – that she’d still be sitting there, miles away from her ideal day.

She jumped a little when she heard Blake’s voice – angry and hurt – behind her. Quartz didn’t have the guts to turn and look at him as he spoke, just sat and listened. "Quartz, do you really think I'd just do that? I mean, I know we've only known each other for so many hours, but still. I-.. I thought we had trusted each other. I thought we knew what each other was really like- Who we really were. I know I don't seem like the best guy, I'm pretty screwed up, and I know I seem like the kind of guy who dismisses friends, girlfriends, with a command of my voice, but I'm not that kind of person. That's-... Like another me. I've shown you the real me, and if you still think that I'd just use you-.."

[/b] he said, voice growing louder. A stab of guilt struck right through her middle. Quartz thought that maybe she really would be sick on the beach after all.

His voice, now lighter, continued. "Look, if you still don't trust me, after everything.. I don't know what to say. The only thing I can say, is that I assure you, I promise you, that I will not use you as anything other than a human being. I swear.“[/b]

Just let yourself believe him, she willed herself. Take a risk for once in your life. Stop hiding.

Taking in a shaky breath, Quartz unravelled her lead-filled limbs and bit down on her cheek. She’d hurt people’s feelings far worse in her past before – normally she felt a little ashamed, but brushed it off and got on with life. She could flat-out insult her mother and walk away with a straight face and without a care in the world, so why did it hurt to hear disappointment from Blake? The only person Quartz had ever felt upset over disappointing was her Dad. At least he forgave her. Other people, who weren’t even family, now that was different. Her lips started to shake – and not from the cold – and it took all her willpower to stay straight-faced and rigid in her spot. She never, ever cried in front of anyone. Even if she’d just spilt out a whole page in her chapter of feelings and honesty, she would not cry. She did not cry over boys, or feelings, like other girls her age would, and wasn’t planning on changing that anytime soon.

She tried to tell him that she knew he wasn’t some egotistical douche-bag. She understood how hard it was to lead two separate veneers – one you put on for show, and another you kept all to yourself. At least, she was supposed to keep it to herself. Better to be seen as a bitch than fake. Her hypocriticalness would almost make her laugh, if the situation wasn’t so tense. She could open up, if she wanted to. She could at least try to be kind, and genuine. She could trust, even though the thought terrified her. If she wanted to, she could.

~~You know you can.~~

"Look, Quartz. I promise to you, from the bottom of my heart, that I will not use you, at any time or place. I will do anything you want of me, and I'll do everything I can to make you a happy person. Alright? Just please tell me you understand."[/b] Blake finished. His honesty caught her off-guard, his word probably the nicest thing anyone had ever said to her. Her mental scale toppled over from the weight of the pros, giving her mindset one final gust of thought to come to her conclusion as she opened her mouth to reply.

"Ok"[/b] Quartz almost whispered. "I understand."[/b] She turned to look at him with a smile – a genuine smile, and laughed away her fear.

She was doing what she was intending to do all along. Do it for the thrill, the laugh, the excitement. Screw everyone else’s opinion. Take a risk. Jump in the deep end.

"I believe you."[/b]

And she really did.

Confusion flooded her face. Blake wasn’t exactly sure what to feel either, since he’d felt as if he’d just scolded her like a child. She did however, slowly begin to turn, a smile on her lips. She understood. She believed what he said, and gotten the meaning and emotion he’s been trying to get out. The whole point in what he’s been trying to say finally got to her, and she trusted him. At least that’s what he thought. As she began to relax, he followed and his cheeky grin back on his face. It was perfect, this moment, where they both understood each other. Where they both felt the same way for each other. His happy thoughts were broken by a soothing sound; Quartz’s voice.

"Ok," She almost whispered, no louder then a mouses sqeak. "I understand."

Then, there was a pause. Not an eerie one, a special one. One to tense one up, for the final word someone would want to hear. And in this case, that's exactly what happened.

"I believe you."

These words were going to be kept in his mind forever. These words, no matter how long they, even lasted, would mean the world to him. He had finally gained all the trust and love he needed from her, and he didn't intend to linger on it or waste it. Technically, they were... 'together' now, and it just felt weird to him at first. He had never been hardcore serious about things like this, he'd always been calm and cool about it, with the ability to dump girls with only a few seconds of his voice to project: "It's over." But this, this was different. He felt like he was committed to making Quartz, and only her happy. To make none others as happy as he could make her.

His mouth linger open, overwhelmed with happiness at the response, and how the whole situation turned out for them. Noting how the silence might send her a strange, wrong message, he decided to speak, the cheeky smile bigger then thought possible on his face.

"That's.. That's great, Quartz. You have no idea how happy I actually am right now. It's just that-.. I've never been in something like this before, and it just feels special to me. 'Guess you just have that kinda affect on guys.

He let out a slight laugh, as he went to go sit back down next to Quartz. She looked confused, sad, yet happy at the same time; Emotions that are rarely mixed together like this. I mean, if it took two almost-drowning events, a run through the forest, a bloody foot, and a whole bunch of other crap to cause those emotions to mix, it'd be a pretty rare thing, right? Seeing how she was right now seemed like a signal to him- To make her feel more comfortable. He turned to her, so now that his body was fully facing hers and went to pull her in for another hug. One like when they met. Their first real encounter with each other. It all started with a hug. All this. Started by love. Bizarre, right?

[/color] Blake said, laughing slightly as he sat back down next to Quartz. A rush of relief swept through her - so filled with allayment that she didn't even bother to object to his comment. Yes, she'd led guys on before - but that was flirty Quartz. Bitchy Quartz. Make-out-with-then-dump-when-bored Quartz. It was scary, leaving the old her behind, but a new sense of excitement sparked in her head at the thought of unravelling her true self.

When Blake sat down, she felt his arms encompass around her body. She shifted her position so they weren't at such an awkward angle and sunk her side into his hug, breathing out a sigh into the ocean air. The sun had crept lower in the sky, but still hung high enough to warm up Quartz's limbs - breathing in the smell of the beach and Blake's skin. As her head rested on his shoulder again, a different kind of security began to comfort her. It was a little unstable and fuzzy in her head, apprehensive and unclear - but to her surprise, it made her feel calmer. Safer.

"So, we're officially... er, together now, right? Or something like that? she asked with a smile as to not give the wrong impression. Because damn, she still needed that slight bit of reassurance - but only because she was a little confused. With most guys in her past, they'd hooked up and walked around with her, holding hands and showing off to everyone else - before Quartz got bored and tossed them overboard. The thought of everyone at school - her friends, especially - reacting to her latest catch, sent a wide grin across her face, and even more when she thought of their faces as they would realise that Blake wasn't just a toy, or a rebound, or anything remotely close. She planned on keeping Blake for as long as he could put up with her. She just hoped he'd be able to tolerate her.

It felt to Blake, finally getting somebody close to him. The thoughts of tomorrow, whilst Quartz and himself were at school, showing off to everybody who they were know. Showing everybody they meant business- Showing everybody what they're having today, is One-hundred percent real. He twist his head sideways, resting his right cheek on her silken sparkling blonde hair, only his cheeky smile to remain. His eyes shut, and his mouth in a smile, life for him was perfect right now. Could it really get any better? You know when you're stressed, and people always tell you to think of that perfect moment, of that perfect place to keep you calm? Well, now Blake knew where that was. ~~Inhisroombeingforeveralone.~~ With Quartz, right here, and right now. He wondered if it was really 'official', as people would say it; Whether him and Quartz were actually for real. She had just said they were, but she needed to hear something more then just I believe you. She needed her to actually confirm. That question was stuck in his mind. Were they actually together now? Seems like he'd have to answer his own question.

"So, we're officially... er, together now, right? Or something like that?"

There it was. Now, it was up to him to answer himself; however, he already knew what he thought. He wasn't sure whether she just wanted it straight on, or more meekly, so he decided his usual approach. To speak his mind and not give a crap about what anyone thought. (Even though he cared a little bit too much on how Quartz viewed him.) He removed his cheek from the now warm spot on her blonde hair, and pressed his forehead against hers, sliding his arms from against her back to her cheeks, to her neck. But not creepily. Gently, and lovingly. His gaze stared into her eyes, and he hoped his eye disorder didn't.. ruin the atmosphere that they had around each other right now- The romantic atmosphere, one might say. His white teeth revealed themselves as his lips curved into an open smile, and he began to speak, somewhat amused by Quartz's confusion in what a true relationship was.

"Yea, Quartz. We're together now. Boyfriend and Girlfriend."

He tilted his head diagonally, shutting his eyes, as he went to kiss Quartz. Again. He wasn't sure why he had chose to done it then and there, but it just felt right to him. He knew she migt have some words to say, but he couldn't really keep in what he had much longer. He needed to get everything he needed out of himself, in order for him to function correctly. Because when he's cramped together with things, he doesn't do so well. In anything. He had already done this earlier today, but right now, it seemed more 'official', since they were officially together and all. A small spark seemed to set off in his heart, and butterflies fluttered in his stomach. He felt so right with Quartz, so much more like himself, even though Quartz did have a lot more to learn about him.

What could have been hours for all he knew, he broke away from from the kiss, parting his lips from Quartz's. He brought his forehead back onto hers, and gazed into her eyes once more. He felt so calm, like the ocean as it is now when he looked into her eyes. They were beautiful, and they just dazed him. He could stare at them for hours for all he cared. As long as they belonged to Quartz.

"Yea, we are together now. And I could't imagine anything better to happen to me."

He did mean every word he said, with his heart speaking it's fullest. Quartz was special to him now. Quartz was who he was desired to protect, and make happy. There was nothing more he could ask from her, except to be just the way she is now. He smiled one his cheeky smile one final time before speaking, and this time waiting for Quartz to speak. His excitement must've gotten to him today. Something he should work on next time he's with Quartz.

"So, what do 'ya wanna do now? Don't think you can swim on that foot, so I'm up for whatever you want."

It was in that moment that Quartz felt safe again. Something satisfying about being tucked under Blake's arms, the sun warming up their skin, faint crashes of the sea breaking the shoreline in her ears floated through her system. This day had been madness, she'd just thrown herself into the fastest and craziest relationship she'd ever been in - yet for the first time, it felt meaningful to her. Like it stood a chance of lasting. Like she was allowed to devote herself to this, to feel. No, it didn't make sense, not even to herself, but hey. What's living without taking some risks?

Quartz felt her body being shifted by Blake, and she let him construct her arms so he could face her. Her question still lingered in the air, but as she felt his warm hands sneak up around her neck guessed his reply. Answering with words that she could barely keep audible for the beating pulse in her ears and a light kiss on her lips to seal the deal, Quartz felt her breath being sucked right out of her system as Blake pressed his lips on hers. It was odd, in a way - kissing him, now they were... official. Official? Together? Those words sounded odd and unfitting, but this... this certainly wasn't. She sighed against his touch, felt every tingle against her skin from his fingertips, felt that slight touch of fear inside of her mixed with nerves. Kissing , for Quartz, used to be merely an automatic reaction, a form of entertainment, or cure from boredom. Now it danced in her stomach and flitted against her chest, breathing out a sigh when they broke away.

"Yea, we are together now. And I could't imagine anything better to happen to me."

Ripred be damned; she felt her insides crumble a little at his words. Quartz felt silly, acting so childlike - trying not to slip into the giggling, girly prototype she'd loathed for so long. There was an air of sincerity to his voice, which only whisked away her worrying, prevailing thoughts. Confidence rippled through her, forehead now pressed against Blake's own, listening to his voice as she fidgeted with her hands.

"So, what do 'ya wanna do now? Don't think you can swim on that foot, so I'm up for whatever you want." Blake asked, feeling him smile along with his query. It was true, she couldn't swim on her foot - and then a mischievous smirk blossomed on her face. What was the next best thing to do on a beach, besides swim?

Build sandcastles, of course.

Jumping up, Quartz slid off the rock the two were positioned on and fell to the sand - careful not to injure her already damaged foot. Immediately she beckoned for Blake to join her, scooping up sand with cupped hands and patting it down to make a base layer. She'd always been a master sandcastle builder, spending hours constructing what she though were masterpieces throughout her consistent visits to the sand as a child. Expertly, she hurried to collect more sand with her arms - a wide grin plastered on her face as she did so. If Quartz Stonewall was gonna build a sandcastle, then damn, it'd be the best sandcastle anyone'd ever laid eyes on.

Blake could feel Quartz begin to shift around, as he brought his arms back by his side, though leaving his hands face down, palms on rock. His eyes followed as Quartz took a small slide down the rock, down onto the grainy sand. He wondered what she was doing, but he only shifted his body to face her, asking no questions. The warmth that he had just had a few seconds ago was gone, but it was easily replaced by a feeling of fun and excitement. What was Quartz planning to do now? Swim, Dig, start a sand fight? Or bury each other into the sand? Possibly building a sandcastle together? The conclusion was clear was he saw Quartz patting the ground flat, taking in sand by the arm full’s. She looked up, her bright smile making him smile back as he slid down onto the sand. The grains of sand shifted beneath him as he sat into it, digging his feet gently into a thin coat of sand sitting motionless in front of him. He watched Quartz do her thing as he decided to join her in what she was doing. He began to gather and pat down sand of his own, joining his to-be-castle with hers. Hopefully, together, they'd make the best sandcastle anyone in District Four will ever see. It did seem silly for someone of his age, but what was fun was fun. Whatever Quartz wanted to do, he did too.

Blake was never a expert at sandcastles, but he always loved to do them with his friends when he was little. They would build up castles, some standing several feet high, and being the age they were, they'd destroy their castles each time, pretending they were the Capitol. It may have been offensive, dangerous to do in public even, but they were too young to take rules into place. They were too young to care about the risks they may have been taking. The memories that flowed into Blake's mind made him smile, as he began to put together the first sign of what seemed to be a wall for his sand castle.

They continued to build on, their mini-masterpiece was beginning to show signs of completion. The sand today was stuck together by the cold, making it easier to pack together and to make things like sand castles, or sand balls or things of that nature, really. Blake had already build up two sand-walls, and was pawing up sand, his hands cupped into themselves, to enhance the ability to grab more sand then one would be able to without doing so. The waves that lie only a few feet sway calmly back and forth, as his are tickled by the trickle of the waves, as they slowly make their way to the shore. Now that he thought about it, it was getting kind of late. With everything that had happened today, god knows what time it actually is. but honestly, it was the time of his life. If only everyday could be like this for him, his general douchey-ness level might lower down just a tad bit. (okay, maybe a lot bit.)

Time flew, as he shared laughs and smiles with Quartz, as the sun slowly began to sink beck into the horizon. The glow of the light against the white clouds before may have been a bit bland, and was just beginning to enter it's exciting course of colours. The sky shifted from blue, to well, shades of red, pink's and oranges. It was beautiful, how the sun could do this so simply, and everyday for that matter. Something so common, yet so romantic. To him, at least. What Blake was doing right now was something he hadn't in a long time. Had fun. He had always been so eager to make people like him, and to adore him, and never took the real time to get to know anybody or hang around with them like he was doing with Quartz. Hopefully, in the future, he could do this a lot more with her. It was so nice, relaxing, and it just made Blake feel like himself.

Quartz and Blake's castle was beginning to form now, it's interior actually impressing Blake. He hadn't expected her, or even him to be so good at this. All he expected was a clump of sand to sink into the sand, and act as if no work was put into it at all. Except, the thing that surprised him was, you could actually tell what it was; It was a big, well put together castle of sand. He looked up at Quartz as the castle was almost completed, smiling. He felt as if right now, when the sun was setting and the day was ending, he'd let her know how he felt about today, and hopefully it'd send her the message he'd want to do this again. Everyday, for all he cared. Screw his friends, and screw his family. Though, the thoughts of how his friends would react to his new 'girlfriend'. Would they say he's a wuss, by actually having a commitment? Would they tell him it's not worth it, and peer pressure him into breaking up with her? No. What he decided was final, and his fiends could't change his mind. He was going to make Quartz the happiest girl in District Four, and he wasn't going to stop at anything to do so. His mouth opened, and words poured out.

"Hey, Uhm, Quartz. I just really wanted to let you know that today, was one of the best days of my life. I just really like being around you... and I'm sorry if I'm not the best guy around, but I swear to you I'll do everything I can to protect you, and to make you happy."

She felt silly, working on this castle as if it were her life's work, but she didn't care. Childlike and giddy with excitement, Quartz chiselled away at the sandcastle with Blake, unaware of the time slowly ticking away. The sun began to slowly sink as the afternoon sunlight began to slip away, winds picking up again. Light filtered softly through the stokes of cloud above the pair as they laughed, sand covering Quartz's hands. Working away at their construction until it was finally finished, Quartz sat up and blinked a few times, not realising how dark it had gotten - the last bits of light still clinging to the sky.

Sighing at the realisation of this day having to end, Quartz folded her legs beneath her and sat crossed-legs in front of Blake. She did not want to have to go home, go to sleep, and wake up the next day, leaving today in the past. She really needed to stop thinking these things, but she wished with her might that she could stay in today forever. Another wave of reality hit her, as she realised school was tomorrow. Ah. School. School, as in her friends. School, as in ex boyfriends. School, as in everyone in the flipping District. Oh.

Oh.

Quartz opened her mouth to speak - but Blake cut in before her. "Hey, Uhm, Quartz. I just really wanted to let you know that today, was one of the best days of my life. I just really like being around you... and I'm sorry if I'm not the best guy around, but I swear to you I'll do everything I can to protect you, and to make you happy" he blurted out all at once.

Damn. He really, really needed to stop doing that to her.

Sinking, she bit her lip in an attempt to pull herself together. It was so frustrating, letting herself feel. Letting herself care. It was almost foreign to her, caring. Or at least letting it show, that is. Tomorrow would be a whole other task in itself, facing everyone and their hushed whispers and staring eyes - but hell, she would deal with that when it came. Instead, she smiled gratefully at Blake and thanked him by standing up and wandering towards his side of the castle, pulling him upwards into a hug - and a wanted one at that.

"Thanks" she whispered, because honestly, she had no idea what else to say. It was a pathetic response compared to Blake's surge of gantry, and she knew it, but nothing she thought of seemed sufficient to say but thanks. No-one had ever put her at a loss of words before.

"It's getting late" she mumbled, stating the obvious as she rested her head on Blake. The sun was finally sinking under the horizon, oranges plastered against the sky. Quartz knew that she needed to get back before the sun had completely disappeared, but wanted to stay. Gritting her teeth, she waited for Blake to respond.

Blake only stared Blankly at Quartz as she bit her bottom lip, looking shy and even a bit nervous. Had he said something wrong? Had he said something that made her feel powerless, uncomfortable? He really hoped that wasn't the case, since he was already having the greatest day of his life with her, and he didn't want it all to end just like this. With something he said that made her feel useless. He just wanted her to feel the support from him, and the real way he felt about her. Luckily, this wasn't the case. Quartz soon rose from her spot on the sand, grains of it crunching under her foot as she waked towards him, and pulled him up from his arms into a hug. He was literally pulled up, and he didn't bother to rebel against the action. He felt strange, being the one controlled now, though the action was so small. He'd been doing most of the controlling so far, and he liked it, but if Quartz wanted to do that too, she could.

He pulled Quartz in closer almost the same time she did for him, as the she rested her head on his chest, and he rested his cheek-side of his face on her head. Not harshly, though. Gently. They shared their warmth as he smiled, wanting to savior this moment forever. He'd look back at this moment, and think of it as perfect. What wasn't there to like about it? Plus, when tomorrow came and his classes in school began to bore him to death, he could think back to all that happened to today, and relieve himself of the boredness. School. He wondered how his friends would react. Would they make fun of him, call him a softie? There was no way in hell they'd actually try and support him- They just weren't like that. He let out a deep, relaxed sigh as Quartz's voice quickly followed.

"Thanks," She replied. Blake was kind of annoyed he let all that out, and he ended up getting Quartz to being nearly speechless. Was that a good thing, or a bad thing? She was probably exhausted, he assumed, with the array of events that happened today, he was a bit tired himself. He should be getting home soon, only to arrive into his nagging parents territory. Seems that they had a sort of silent agreement there, stating the obvious at the same time.

"It's getting late." They had both thought the same thing, and Blake assumed he should take her home now. Though it was dark, he was sure they could find there way through the thin line of woods between them and her house. Hopefully they wouldn't get lost though, and have to spend the rest of the night in the woods. Especially since Blake was still shirtless; It was getting cold out, and he had no intention of staying out here the whole night the way he is.

He broke away from the hug, bringing his hands down to Quartz's. He playfully tugged on them, and began walking for the treeline, looking back at the "private-beach". "It is about time we get home, Quartz. And trust me, I really don't want to, but it's getting late, like you said." It did make him feel a bit empty inside, knowing he'd have to spend time without her, but he could manage. He wasn't some emotionally broke down freak. The sky quickly vanished through the leaves of the tree's, and the sound of the ocean was retreating from his ears. It seemed like a whole new world, this forest, since Blake seldom ever hung around tree's and things of that sort. the ocean was where he felt most at 'home'.

Luckily, the option of getting lost wasn't open to Blake. From earlier, the soil beneath them must have been somewhat moist from the light snow the sprinkled the District. he knew if he followed the footsteps imprinted in the soil, he could find his way back to her house, and get her home un-damaged (apart from her foot) and safe. He looked back at Quartz, smiling widely as he bean to trek his way through the forest, right hand gripping Quartz's firmly. And soon enough, following the footprints, Quartz's house was in view. Then, he remembered. Would her parents be angry about the kitchen? Would they be sore because she's been out all day with some guy they didn't even know? As her house full into Blake's vision, he looked back at her, grabbing her empty hand with his, and pulled her in close. He wrapped his arms around her one last time for the day, and whispered in her ear.

"It's 'bout time I go now, Quartz. I'll see you tomorrow, alright? And if your parents are angry 'bout the mess I've done, just blame it on me. It'll be alright if you do. Totally fine with it if you do- Just saying. See 'ya tomorrow then, right? " He spoke cheerfully, happy he got to spend the day with Quartz. He had his classic cheeky smile planted onto his face. He dindn't regret anything he did today. Everything that happened today, made him altogether a better person. The consequences of taking the blame for Quartz might be harsh, but he needed to do things like this for Quartz. To keep her safe, and un-damaged, he would take the blame for her. After all, that was the best thing to do, right?

He released his hands from hers, the weaving of their fingers loosened fast. He began to wave, giving off that smirk that everyone loved oh so much. Then, he mouthed the words: "I'll miss you" to her, as he disappeared into the path, out of her sight. He was more then happy. For the first time in a while, Blake was in love. And this time, it wasn't fake.

It was real.

Omr, it does make the posts seem longer. xD. I may actually use this layout in the future, then. (;. Sorry for the..suckish ending to the thread! xD But, as you know, my first one got POOFED AWAY. So, yea. here it is. Enjoy..?
