(Sorry, I know this type of thread must be used alot but I need it for my character. By the way, here is Shelby's bio if you want it.)
Shelby sighed as she finally got the baby's incessant crying to stop. The ringing from it was still pestering her ears, but at least the baby was asleep. She started rocking the baby back and forth in her tired arms, hoping Kiel really was asleep. She could still remember holding this bundle of joy for the first time in the forest, remember naming him too.
Kiel after Kelli...
Shelby smiled sadly. Oh how she missed Kelli. Her brown hair... That playful look in her eyes that seemed to stay even when times seemed tragic... Just like that time in her bedroom..
Shelby seemed to relive the scene in her mind for a second. A hurt expression grew on her face, but imediatly she wiped it off and sighed again. Then she smiled.
That time is over... You have a new life now.
That was true. She had ran away all those years ago, and had been hiding in the orphanage ever since. Shelby took a look around her. The wind was blowing through her hair softly, sending it flying around her face. Her eyes glowed in the moonlight as she looked up at the full moon. Shelby was sitting outside the orphanage because the other orphans always yell at her when the baby crys. The cool grass beneath her felt much better than the cold, hard floor in the orphanage. The air was much fresher too. The air in the orphanage was just stuffy, and smelled just like all the sweaty children's bodies it housed.
Shelby realized how deep in thought she was. About the past, about the present. She just hoped Kiel could have the best future. Maybe her parents would never find her. Maybe when Shelby turned 18 she could try to get a house, and take Kiel with her. The only thing stopping her from that dream life was the games. She couldn't and wouldn't even think about what would happen if she was reaped. That would just lead to disaster. There would be no way for her to win. If she got reaped, she would have no hope. But Shebly wouldn't think anymore about that. Before her mind took her to forbiden places, she got up with Kiel in her arms and set off back to the orphanage. She quietly opened the front door, and then locked it behind her. Right before Shebly was going to make her way upstairs, she heard the creak of wood.
