Luke just smiled. Her arms felt good around him. She was warm, despite the dress she was wearing.
"Don't worry. We won't. Just hold on tight."
Luke kicked off with his foot, and the sled imediatly responded. There was three seconds of slowness, but then the sled gained speed quickly. He steered the sled where only snow was, no rocks so they wouldn't hit anything. The cold wind from the speed they were going made him feel like he was flying, and he laughed in glee. His cold hands clamped down on the strings, and the only warm part of his body now was where Alana was holding on to him for dear life.
A few seconds more, and they were going twice as fast. The slope was ending, and Luke suddenly realized they were going to fast.
We're goana sled right into the water!
This was William's death all over again, except worse. Why did he have to be so stupid? Luke had to think fast. He knew using his foot as a brake would only send them twirling, and probably hurt his foot, bad. He had an idea to slow them down, but it might not work.
"Hold on!" Luke yelled over the wind. Just as they got back onto flat surface, he turned the sled into a sharp turn left. The sled skidded, and they slowed down. The sled tipped sideways, but it was going so much slower that they came to a stop when it happend. Luke quickly pushed the sled off them, and he looked at Alana worriedly.
"Are you ok? I'm really sorry, I must've misjudged the slope!"
