The next day she went to work a little early so that she was able to get home at a decent time considering she told Nick to be there around five. She figured he would be standing there at five o'clock waiting for them to get home so that maybe he would show her that he would be a good father and that there would be no problems from him. She wondered what he thought about their situation. She wasn't sure what to think about him coming back, all she knew was that she was doing fine and now he has come in and turned her world upside down again. She tried to focus on work that day but her mind kept wandering to what would happen that evening, how Charlotte would react to her having a friend that was a guy. Normally Iris stayed away from guys, she was to afraid of being heart broken again.
That night she picked up Charlotte at five on her way home from work. The daycare provider was surprised at the time the little girl was picked up. Iris paid some of her bill that she had going there while Charlotte got ready trying to decide how much she could afford to put down on the daycare. After paying she picked up the small two year old and walked home with her in her arms, they talked about how her day was and what she did. Charlotte bright for her age and could talk fairly well, which made most conversations with her bearable. Sometimes she missed actual adult conversation outside of work though. When they arrived home he was standing there waiting for them just like she had thought that he would be. Despite what he did she smiled when she saw him, she was happy he was at least trying to be good and trying to be in his daughter's life. She walked up the stairs setting Charlotte down and unlocking the door before saying hello to him. She opened the door and let Charlotte go inside. "Come in and set your stuff anywhere I guess. Sorry for the mess. I don't get a lot of time to clean"
