Foil Round 1: Libertine vs. Harper

Now comes the fun part. All those races had just been something to occupy Viridian's time, but now the gloves went on and the real fights began. His fingers had been itching to get a hold of a foil since he had arrived in District Four. After training for sixteen years it was nice to get some competition even if it wasn't the Games. There was something about having a "weapon" in his hands that calmed Viridian's nerves. He had been forced to leave Stark's switchblade in his room to prevent it from being confiscated. It was his luck charm and his worry stone.

Taking in a deep breath he looked at the bracket, looking for his name. It seemed that his home district was dominating the competition with only a handful of tributes- well, contestants- from the other two districts. In fact there was only one soul representing the fishing district. Just as his eyes passed the "4" he found his own name under the same strip. Strip 5: Kraken Libertine vs. Viridian Harper

Libertine? Like the girl from the Games? As in the girl who's skull Viri's sister bashed in? That one? Well, this was going to be invigorating. Sliding his mask down he made his way down to the strip, thankful that his expressions would be covered. Facing his opponent he took him in. They had been pitied against each other on purpose. Two tribute's siblings? That's good television. A smirk caught his lips as he prepared himself, settling his weight and gripping his foil. The buzzer rang and he lunged forward.

Stomach- point

"Wake up fish head- you're on camera," usually Viridian wasn't one for battle banter but his Harper blood came out. The Stark part of him came forward, leading his tongue and his foil. It was almost as if this was the second round- if only he could crush a skull in the Olympics.

The boy snapped back at him, aiming his weapon for Viri's head. Looking through the mask he saw as the point made contact with is shoulder causing a beep to ring out. Related to that thing? Oh, that got Viridian's blood boiling and his arm shot out with a little more juice than he had intended wishing the foil could skewer the District four boy where he stood. "That thing was my sister!"

Parry- no point

His rage had blinded him, sending the point away from his mark. A growl grew in the back of his throat, adrenaline filling his veins. However, he didn't let this miss get him down- this idiotic hook brain had it coming and Viri was fuming. "You know the one who bashed your's brains in?" It was a low blow but he didn't feel any guilt in taking it. Miss a point, hit a nerve.

The dull point knocked Viri right in the chest. A buzzer rang signaling that Kraken Libertine had gotten a point. Behind his mask the District One boy was chewing on his bottom lip furiously, his eyes darting to find an opening to stab at the kid and get his own point. His heart was pounding in his chest, and sweat was beading up on his forehead.

"What's the matter? Fish got your tongue?" and then he went in for a strike, lunging forward with all the frustration building up inside of him. Frustration at losing, at getting paired up with this kid out of all the other fencers in the competition. This was no regular bout, Viridian could feel that much.

Chest- Point

His foil found home, thudding the own boy on the chest. This time when the beep rang out over the strip signaling a hit, Viri smirked.

A beep rang out but despite of the disadvantage Viridian had to laugh. He really was a fish head! Were all District Four residents so touchy when it came to which fish had teeth or not? This Libertine boy as all fired up over Viri's mere presence and it was amusing. "Well, obviously, you're a Kraken," he said matter of fact, pointing out the boy's own name to him. "But it is my understanding that even low district girls can defeat those."

Viri frowned at the ruling. He was already one behind and now the fish boy got his point? It wasn't even fair that he was green- Viri's name meant green. However there was still a ways until the last point could be made- and Viridian planned on catching up.

For once in this bout, Viridian kept his mouth closed. He was losing and not only had he been insulted, but his family as well. He was so furious that he didn't even try to block Kraken's foil- it just thudded right in the middle of Viri's chest. Maybe he shouldn't have signed up for this stupid contest, it was too soon for him to start taking insults aimed at his sister. Although she had been a harsh person, she was still his sister. It never occurred to the boy that at these Olympics he might run into another kid that had also grieved over a sibling in the Games. Just like Viridian had wanted Fitz Ripley's blood, Kraken Libertine wanted Stark's. Seeing as he would not get hers, Viridian was the next best thing. It's a never ending cycle. A loved one is killed, we avenge them but that killer always has a family.

Harpers are not idiots, as this Libertine might want to think. They are bold, strong, and enduring. Who else would manage to get some boy in a far off place stuck on killing one of them?

Point to green... again

The boy thought about throwing his foil to the ground and leaving the strip entirely. However the only thing worse than a loser is a quitter. So he stayed, hidden behind his mask and fuming.

The buzzer rang as another point was collected by Kraken Libertine. Frustration made the Viri's face twitch, wishing he could rip the other boy's mask off and slam his face into his knee. Oh, the officials would just love that. Taking a breath, Viridian lunged forward again, imagining his foil going through the District Four boy's padding and chest.

Shoulder- point (about time)

Finally he earned a point in his favor. Confidence was once again his and he started to spout off again. "What do you hope to accomplish by beating me? She won't come back just because you hit me a few times with a blunted blade,"[a little sentimental for a game. Then again these children have been trained for death since they can walk, they no nothing of sportsman ship and good natured fun.

Well, that was the first time Viridian was ever told that if, given the chance, someone would kill him. See, he was the nice one in the family. The child that, although being ambitious and tough as any Career would be, didn't beat up children in the streets like a certain blonde haired girl he knew. He had earned his medals so far, and now they matched her's. They both had won.

"...you are the only person that can be punished for her actions." That just did not sit right with him. As much as he had cared for Stark, he didn't want to take the blame for all the tricks she had pulled in her lifetime. Unlike her, Viridian had a bit of a conscience and being killed for crimes beyond his control was just not fair. Do all District Four kids take things so seriously?

"Only one? Didn't Stark repay her debt when your other tribute stabbed so many holes in her she bled to death?" the memory of the gore and blood presented on the screen in the square in front of the entire District sent a chill through Viridian's entire body. The Harper family had lost Stark to pay for this Libertine girl's blood. The price had been paid.
