[OOC: So, I don't have any particular plot in mind and I can't find anything that peak's my interest. The problem is, I have shiny new character and I want to test her out... or something. I figure that there may be others out there who are feeling the same, so join in if you'd like. This is basically an 'every day' thing that we're doing. The characters interact in school or in the fields or orchards, etc. and I guess it keeps you from getting rusty. Just jump on in and introduce your character through the power of storytelling.]
District 11 had many flaws, the most tedious of which was the routine. Every day at 6 o'clock AM, Pomona Bello would wake up and dress herself before helping her mother create the morning meal. She imagined that the Capitol, and maybe other districts, would have greater meals and that her family's would pale in comparison, but it kept them alive, which was really the main focus. That morning they were able to divide a half loaf of bread between the five of them - herself, her mother, Gisli, her father, Lathrop, and her two brothers, Carolos who was eight years old, and Georgie, who was fourteen. Pomona and Gisli's small frames allowed them the ability to sacrifice food for Lathrop and Georgie, who worked hard in the fields, and Carolos who was a child and in need of nourishment, especially since his future would most likely be in the fields as well. The last of their apple sauce accompanied the breakfast, as did a weak brew of fresh mint tea. This not only warmed their bellies, but also freshened their breath, and was very welcomed.
At quarter to seven, Pomona and Georgie would go to school. Due to Pomona being seventeen, she would attend school in the morning only, before going to work in the orchards in the afternoon. Georgie, too, attended school in the morning alone. Although he was only fourteen, he was strong and a valuable asset in the fields. Carolos would attend school for full days until he grew a little more; he began at 9 o'clock. Pomona loved school dearly and, aside from the Capitol propoganda, wished she was still able to attend all day.
On this day, in particular, Pomona's class was learning about the various plants found around District 11. Of course, Pomona knew plenty about this already, not only because of her upbringing, but also because of her searches around the district during her down time - she called them 'adventures'. She collected various herbs and weeds within the fence, specifically those she was unsure of, and would ask her fellow citizens if they knew. More often than not, the plants were useless to her, but she made a note of it anyway. At seventeen, it was hard to say that she didn't know the name and use of every plant within her district. She appreciated being able to offer some intelligence on the subject, but dreamed of a time where plants outside of her district would be discussed. It was unlikely that all she knew was all that existed.
When the topic segued from plants to vegetables and fruits to District 11's duty to the Capitol, Pomona became bored quickly. As always, she fixated her eyes on her paper and tuned out the ridiculous propoganda: "We must work hard to make up for past rebellions" blah blah blah "It is our duty to the law" blah blah blah. It was always the same: 'We do A because of B so that C can D' and Pomona was able to figure out what this sentence would contain before hearing it, about 95% of the time. It was no secret. Not seeing an end to this spiel, Pomona picked up her pencil and began doodling flowers, people, and a variety of random shapes.
