"Did everyone wash up?"
Julyan stretched to spear a slice of meat with his fork, then paused, turning, with what had been a massive grin on his face now contorted into a grimace, to see the knowing smile of February. Looking past her, he could see that January was already returning from the sink, flicking his hands to remove any excess moisture from them. While January had had the foresight to wash his hands before even contemplating sitting down to eat, Julyan had simply dived at the food without a second thought. And now, February, albeit kindly and with no intent to wound his ego, had scolded him like a child, making him look irresponsible, yet again. And rightly so.
You're an idiot, Julyan, you know that?
He rose quickly from his chair, made his way over to the sink in the kitchen and blasted his hands with a stream of cold water in an attempt to eradicate any trace of dirt from them, probably removing a few layers of epidermis in the process. His enthusiasm thoroughly curbed, Julyan returned to his place at the table, his hands utterly spotless while his arms and face remained filthy. An interesting sight. Julyan wasn't one to tend to his appearance that much, he only made an effort when February told him to, he wouldn't notice the layers of grime that caked his skin otherwise.
"So...how was everyone's day today?"
Julyan had opened his mouth to reply, when a guttural noise suddenly let itself loose from his stomach. He shut his mouth and scrunched his eyes closed for the length of the sound, which seemed to go on for an eternity and a half. When it finally ended, he instead elected to simply fetch a piece of meat from the plate on the middle of the table and began sawing it into an infinite number of pieces with his fork, his head propped up in his idle left hand and his eyes downcast. He could sense the smirks that would surely be on the faces of all those around the table, silently laughing with each other at his expense. Why fate had it in for him, he had no idea, but it surely did.
