I see her lick up her own blood, causing me to gag. I have nothing to spew this time, my stomach roaring from hunger. I wish the boy was still helping me, but it seems that he has disappeared. I squeeze my eyes, screams racing through my head. I want to flee, run back to the safety of home, but I know I can't. I have too many injuries. I shudder at the thought of my parents finding out that I had ventured over the fence. They would turn against me, throw me into the pool of peacekeepers. They wouldn't care if I was beat to death.
"I bet not being able to talk is so torturous."
I turn around sharply, ready to let my fist make contact, but it does me more harm than I expected. She jams the knife deep into my chest, so close to my heart. Blood races over me as she yanks the knife back out. I throw my head back in pain. I know that I'll lose too much blood if I don't patch this up quickly, and my backpack has the supplies I need. I can just barely see it in the distance, but I think I'll be able to reach it.
"I'd kill myself if I couldn't talk."
That was it. I was tired of this girl making so many remarks about me. Does she know that I haven't chosen this life? Can she even imagine a sliver of the pain I've felt my whole life? I hate this girl now. I want her to die. I throw my knife at her as hard as I can.
It hits her in her thigh, slicing deeply into her flesh. I smile triumphantly, figuring out my strength is throwing my knife, not trying for direct combat. I still have my bundle of knives in my pocket, but I have a better plan. I rip the knife from her thigh, causing the blood to leak heavily. I don't do it for the sight of blood like the crazed girl. I do it for her screams.
