Sometimes you have to look back on old memories to see truths. Sometimes old memories hold new things every time you go over them. Each time you take the time to look at them through a different perspective you learn something new or you find out something you have been searching for. I have been searching for the truth for a great deal of my life. Ever since my father had seen I was old enough to know the truth, that is. When I was six years old my father told me, he told me I wasn't really part of the family. I wasn't one of them. Although he lavished this with fluff, sweet words and a kind hug and gentle squeeze on the shoulder.

At first I laughed it off as a joke, unwilling to accept it. These people were my family, the people I had grown up with and yet they called them self something else.

It was once said that our mistakes define us. I believe in this. I believe that the lies that we breathe and the truths that we write make a part of us. But to become who you are you must make mistakes. Without those mistakes there is no way of knowing how to be honest and true to everything that you are. Mistakes although you to have new experiences and try no things. Without them we would hardly be human. The one flaw with this saying is that I don't make mistakes. mistakes are for the weak and I, Matthias Mercury am anything, but weak. I am the perfect picture of strength and vitality. A million songs have come from my lips and in each of those words whispered I have twisted and turned some poor mind to do my will. Oh manipulation is so easy when everyone is weaker than you, less than you.

Most people prefer to plan everything they do, but plans are bad. Plans fail you and they create mistakes. mistakes are curses that the strong never stumble upon. I've never learned. I've watched others make mistakes and I have done exactly what they have done. But when I do it, it is never a mistake. There is always intention behind ever thing I do and because of that there is no mistake. I'm reckless and a rebel, I'm free and ready to fly and fall. I'm the man my father wanted, more or less.

"You can't arrest me." Slurred words escape my lips, leaving in white puffs from my slightly parts pale lips. My blue eyes shone with mischief and underneath was an angry blaze, but I kept it down. I knew my best defence was what I could say -and who I was. "Now why can't we?" The peacekeeper sneers. His hand held my arm like iron, but even so I knew I was strong enough to pull away, I mean this fine tuned, lean body had been made this way for some reason. My arms were strong, as was my legs, I had finally shaped muscles, and a body of perfection, or saw I believed. I had no other need to see differently. To see yourself as anything less than perfect made you what you were. A snort of derision follows his words and he gives me a cold glare. My fiery blue eyes meet his and he looks away first. The ghost of a sneer flickers across my face. My blonde hair was blasted to my head, but I shake it roughly, spiking it, getting it away from my eyes.

"Well, it is pretty obvious seein' as I have done nothing wrong." I reply crisply. A tone of authority entering my voice. To get away with something you had to act in charge, fearless and cunning. Act as though you knew he was in the wrong, even if he wasn't. "You broke into a building. That is pretty illegal to me." He replies dryly. "Yeah, I know it is, but I didn't break in. You have no proof." I reply, narrowing my eyes to thin slits, daring him to challenge me, "besides, do you really want to be seen falsely arresting the sun of Mr. Mercury?" There. The one sentence that always slipped into a conversation. If I was ever in trouble I used those magic words.

No one dared challenge my father.

Besides grunting the man made no reply. Dammit. I hated the peacekeepers that took their jobs too seriously. They always made me run, rather then talk through the problems. Father would not be happy, the next day the peacekeepers came knocking, but no matter what I did he always found some way to tell the Peacekeepers to leave me alone, and no matter what he never turned on me in anger or hate, lashing out at my reckless stupidity. Was it sympathy? Did he feel as though he need to protect me because no one else did? Because the rest of the household shunned me? They all pushed me away, they hated me because I was adopted. But then that wasn't my fight. That shows you how stupid people are.

No matter what any of them say I know I'm smarter than them and I can overcome anything. I know how to work people. People are simple, there isn't much to them, there is nothing interesting or unique, nothing that makes them a challenge. With a few simple steps you can read them like an open book. I have learnt how to do so. I know what makes people tick, what makes them do what they do. It isn't hard when you have been living with people who so openly despise you. You learn to do what you must to survive, so I learnt to become a manipulator, to turn and twist people to do what I want. Although I still need practice I'm getting there and one day I'll be able to do it to anyone, and everyone with a few quick, sharp words. There is no challenge there.

I got into the habit a little while ago of creating plans. I'd spend ours drawing up amazing, creative plans to do break-ins and robberies. Then when the day came I would go a few steps into the plan before destroying it, before changing it in a way that I couldn't expect myself to do. It lead me to be able to think clearly on the spot, to know what to do. Daring plans fall to pieces in seconds, I needed to feel strong and creative, to have the ability to get out of a situation with no plan at all. That was true strength and I was determined to conquer it. I real got reckless. Sometimes even allowing myself to be caught, just so I could escape. I had no need to be like the rest of them, like those perfect little brats, so I let it all slide. I stepped below what my "mother" wanted to see. She could look down on me, I didn't care. I found no need to be all high and mighty, to be a good boy. Besides I wanted to be a rebel, it was part of me.

With a sharp jerk I yank myself away from the Peacekeeper, flicking him the bird I spin on my heels and flee down the darkened streets. His shouts of anger echoing in the empty streets.

They tell us everything's alright
And we just go along
How can we fall asleep at night?
When something's clearly wrong
When we could feed a starving world
