“Yeah, they’ll be fine. They’re all pretty tough people. The ones that got arrested will probably be back on the street tonight or early tomorrow.” I hadn’t lied to her. The people that inhabited the Hob were a pretty resilient bunch. The truth of it was that they would probably be back in their tonight, selling their stuff once again. The sun glares through window, causing me to squint a little. I lift me hand block it out and stumble backward a little. I turn my face to the girl, who has decided to change clothes. She looks a little more, at home now. Most girls don’t wear shorts outside their homes so it was an unfamiliar sight for me. I look at her and smile wide. Her bandages are extremely excessive. I could have bandaged her up with barely a quarter of the bandages her mother used. But I wasn’t about to say anything, after all, mother does know best.
I sling the bag up onto my shoulders and turn my back to Chrysanthemum, preparing to leave. I do need to be getting home, before I head out. My mind suddenly races, and I turn back to her. I don’t expect a yes, but nevertheless, I figure I should ask anyway. ” Do you and your…friend…. Wanna come with me tonight? It will be later, and I can come get you or you can come with me now either way, I can promise it won’t be nearly as dangerous as the Hob, and you probably won’t get cut up again.” I stand for a moment, my hands on the straps of my pack, which is thrown over my shoulders again. I look the girl up and down, noticing for the first time that she is rather on the small side. She could use what I have to offer, and I know it. Her friend, well, in the event we has reaped, why not help the kid out. I lean back a little, letting my shoulder find the wall. I can hear Chrysanthemums mom and Briar in the adjacent room, going through God knows what.
