I could see the uncomforting look in Nick’s eyes when I removed my hand from my side, I know he tried to hide it, but it was pretty obvious. ”Sorry, I think I might have broken that rib, not on purpose, but you know.” he said softly, as if he really was sorry. Maybe he was or maybe he was just a great actor, which ever, there was really no need for apologizing. Not only did he almost kill me, but to make up for it, saved my life as well, twice, both when I went unconscious. It told me he cared enough to want to keep me alive, and I though the same about him. I was not ready to be stuck on this island by myself.
”Do you want me to lay with you and keep your back warm?” he asked randomly. I gave stared at him for a while, trying to figure out whether he was trying to make a move, or just be generous. I waved my hands to bring him over, deciding I could just send him back across the campfire if he tried to. Maybe it wouldn’t be too bad if he did though, I guess it would cheer me up a bit. Whatever, he was just here so we could both stay warm, nothing else. I thought to myself sternly.
There were always to parts of me tugging at each other, one waiting to do one thing while the other part of me wanted to take another road. I was sure everybody had this, just mine was more annoying, not deciding what to do, one of my many flaws about myself. I let him lay next to gently, the warmth from his body keeping my skin warm. I was the most comfortable in this moment since the first tme I stepped on the boat. It was a little unnerving for Nick to be the one keeping me comfortable, but again, at the same time, was kind of nice.
