The price of the passage (LOST plot)

The nerves are making Salem's lips quiver and his voice shaky. He must be quite a mess, no doubt about that and I must admit that it's partly my fault. To calm my own mind I decide to be a bit nicer to him and stop messing with his feelings even though that might be very hard considering how he feels about me.

I watch scantly clad butt walk over to the fire and wonder what on earth happened to his pants. Mine are torn but that's still better than running around nude.

Shaking my head I see everybody huddled up at the fire but my own belly is grumbling. usually I eat a lot more than a few roots and a quarter fish. So I decide to step into the shallow water and try to catch some fish by hand. Under the light of the moon it's hard to make out their outlines so I have to stand still in the knee high water for a long time, my hand in the water next to my feet only waiting to catch whatever comes near me.

It's strange because usually i do this during the day. Something touches my left calf and instictivley my hands curl around it it squeeze tight within a second. Unfrotuantely my right hand doesn't work the way it used to. instead sharp pain shoots up towards my elbow. I must have torn some muscle as well. Needless to say the fish gets away.
Two more tries and almost half an hour later I finally have one and hook my finger through it's jaw.

Silently I walk over to the fire with goosebumps all over my back because of the cold night air.
Purposely I don't sit down next to Lexi but Salem and poke a stick through the fish before I hold it over the fire and slowly turn it. "Is anybody else as hungry as I am?" My eyes scan Salems face. he seems calmer now. Then I look over at Lexi and give her a slight smile.
