Trey Cooper awoke to the sweet silence of morning, a kind of silence that he thought of as relaxing rather than uncomfortable as he did with other sorts of quiet. It wasn't that there was no sound at all--in fact, it was quite the opposite; the air was alight with the calls of the sparrows and the light swoosh of the wind blowing through the trees, sounds of a season that wasn't quite autumn but that couldn't very well call itself summer. Even though he had closed the blinds over his small bedroom window last night, the sunlight shone through, the blinding tendrils of light seeping through the cracks and crawling in to rest upon his lightly closed eyelids.

They drifted open, little peach-colored doors creaking slowly on their hinges to reveal two drowsy orbs of striking sienna, orbs that were soon met by a pair of calloused fingers to rub the cloudy haze of sleep away and reintroduce their usual chocolatey shine. After his arms were stretched out to his sides in the spirit of his usual morning ritual, Trey rolled indolently onto an elbow to lay eyes upon the sleeping form beside him, the reason for the slight concavity in his matress. He could have disturbed Roselyn then, waking her with a light nudge on her pale shoulder and maybe a hushed whisper of "Good morning, Jumpy" in her ear, possibly accompanied by the smallest peck on the cheek--but instead, Trey decided that she looked too content to disturb. It was the first time that he had seen her like this--she'd been happy, terrified, elated and upset, but Trey hadn't yet been introduced to the look of total serenity that now radiated from her features. So instead of a light nudge or a wake-up kiss, he eased up off the bed, hoping that the light creak of the springs wasn't enough to pull her out of her trance.

Trey sauntered into the kitchen, not bothering to change out of his pajamas or even run his fingers through his hair--all he did was yawn and scratch a particularly itchy spot on the crown of his head. His feet were met by the cold shock of the smooth linoleum floor as he stepped into the small room that doubled as a dining area. The clock above the stove read ten thirty, which was surprising considering that he and Rose had went to bed early the night prior. Then again, they had had quite an interesting day. The time also meant that his father had gone off to work, and his mother... she had forgotten to cook the bacon--something she hadn't forgotten to do in about a year.

With a sigh, he realized this, and he set off to find those succulent strips of meat that were the very center of his morning existence. After fishing around in the fridge for a while, Trey found a small package buried in the depths of his freezer in the midst of a few ice-burned packages of frozen corn and peas. He ripped it open with cold and eager fingers, firing up the stove and sliding the strips of meat onto a frying pan, and soon his ears were met by the sweet sizzle of the grease against the cast-iron skillet.

After inhaling the irresistible aroma of the sizzling meat on the stove for what seemed like hours to the poor young teenager (for he had been deprived of his bacon when he was so used to it being ready when he woke up), his breakfast was finished cooking. Trey sat down at the table and dug into the food, ignoring the way the hot grease stung at his mouth and burned his throat as he chewed and swallowed. If Rose had been there, he might have shared, but since she wasn't he decided that he's better eat quickly lest she wake up before he was finished. Surprisingly, the girl seemed to enjoy bacon almost as much as he did, and he had seen how much food she could put away even in just a short amount of time. It may have been a little bit greedy of him, but then again he had worked hard for his bacon--for this package alone he'd given the butcher three of his little wooden trinkets, which in total had to have taken at least two weeks to finish.

He ate in near silence, listening to the crunch of the crispy strips in his mouth and the natural hum of the forest outside. Before too long, a high-pitched squeak crawled in through the hallway, the sound that was always emitted when a new visitor unknowingly stepped on the creakiest floor board in the house. Without looking, Trey knew it was Rose. He hurriedly stuffed the last two strips of bacon into hjs mouth and dropped his greasy plate in the sink, returning to his place at the table just in time to utter a greeting to the drowsy girl in the doorway.

"Morning," Trey told her simply, a smile spreading across his face.

My fingers stretched across the bed. Even though I had all the covers I could possibly get, I was freezing cold. The only thing that would warm me was Trey's body snuggled protectively next to mine. I longed for him to be close again, but without opening my eyes I could feel that he wasn't near. This made me shot up. If he wasn't here, was it all a dream? Helplessly, I found myself whispering his name. That happened. It was real. Trey really exists. Would I have been in his bedroom if he hadn't? I slept in his bedroom. His arms were around me. He was here. I was with him. Then where the hell was he?! I threw the covers off, ignoring the cold that again found me. I needed him to hold me again. I couldn't stop myself from crying as I scanned the room for him. The cold was almost unbearable. I wanted to find Trey, but the chill bumps on my skin made me want to throw myself back onto his bead. Even though my mind was puzzled and confused to the point where I was crying, I tried to assure myself that he was probably in the house somewhere.

Last night was clear in my mind. I had crawled into his bed as silently as possible and he had pet my head until I was asleep in his arms. I remember the faint image of him this morning. He faded in my vision as soon as he had appeared. Had his mother seen us last night? Had his father? All of my thoughts were all blurred and jumbled in my head. I stood in the doorway, wondering if I should give into the warmth of the bed or find the warmth of Trey's body. The idea of another human warmed me more than the blankets that lay in balls on the bed. I shuffled through the first drawer of Trey's dresser for some sort of jacket or something. I shoved it closed after realizing that inside the drawer I had opened was full of pairs of Trey's underpants. Chuckling, I slowly opened the second one. I found a large sweatshirt that came down past my red strapless dress I hadn't bothered to change out of last night. Slipping it over my head, I walked into the hallway.

I slapped back and forth in between the walls as the sweatshirt blocked my vision. Chuckling like a drunk person, I tried to figure out where I was. My hair lay in mats and I pulled the hood of the sweatshirt over it. I didn't want Trey to see it like that. Yawns took over my mouth and my eyes were becoming wet with tired tears. I itched out the crust that had accumulated in the corner of my eyes. I stumbled into the opening of the hallway where it opened up into the dining room, kitchen, and living room. I giggled as I saw Trey sitting at the table.

"Morning,"[/size][/color] he said calmly. I was still drowsy and a bit loopy, even though the sun outside was near high. I stumbled over to him and collapsed in the chair next to him. As I passed the living room, I scowled at the ever-bloody stained couch.

He probably thought I was drunk by the way I was stumbling all over the place. "How are you this morning?" I mumbled. It took everything I had, but I contained my yawn until I was done talking. Why was I so tired? I usually woke up a lot earlier than this. I even went to bed a lot later than we had. I guess my sleep was pretty restless in the hours that Trey wasn't holding me, but it was still weird. Trey wouldn't judge me anyway, so I ignored it.

My stomach made a low rumbling noise. There was a plate in the sink and a skillet on the stove. The smell that surfaced the air yesterday morning was in the air again. Trey had bacon without me? I observed the skillet from my chair. "Afraid I'm gonna steal your bacon? Huh, Sneaky?" I joked, poking at his arm. I was acting strange, but I wanted to have fun while I could. The idea of going back home still loomed over me.

Rosie sauntered over to him sluggishly, obviously still drunk on the intoxication of sleep. The mumbled, ”How are you this morning?” puffed from her lips, the words stumbling over each other and dragging themselves to crawl groggily into Trey’s ears. After she had plopped into the chair next to him, Trey answered. “I’m wonderful, now that you’re awake.” But the clever answer seemed to have been lost upon the girl’s ears; instead her eyes were trained on the empty skillet, which made Trey realize upon following her gaze that he’d forgotten to put it in the sink with his plate.

”Afraid I’m gonna steal your bacon? Huh, Sneaky?” she said humorously, jamming a finger into Trey’s arm as his face grew red with embarrassment at his own pigginess. His smile became slightly smaller in size but it was still there, sitting plainly on his face as he prodded her back in the stomach, careful not to touch her wound. ”Maybe I was. Piggy.” With this, he stuck his tongue out at her playfully, knowing it was true. She might not look it, but Rosie could snarf down a good bit of food in just a short amount of time.

As he thought this his brown eyes scanned her misleadingly small frame, and he found that she was wearing his sweatshirt, an old, tacky, maroon garment that he’d hardly ever worn because it hung so loosely on him, almost as much as it did on Rosie. It was almost a dress on her—it even dared to fall a bit past her knees, hiding the red hem of the strapless dress he knew she hadn’t bothered to remove before falling asleep last night. The already pink shade of his cheeks grew even deeper as he realized she would have had to rummage through his dresser in order to find something like that.

”I see you’ve raided my drawers,” he observed critically, a hint of amusement in his voice as his eyes traveled back up from the sweatshirt to meet hers. ”Huh, Sneaky?” he added with a smirk, knowing she was guilty just as much as he was. Without waiting for the retort to his statement that he knew she would mutter sooner or later, Trey changed the subject. ”So, I told you I’d show you pancakes.” He laced his fingers together and shoved his joined hands straight out from his chest, and his ears were met by an impressive crackling sound, almost like the sound of spitting bacon on a hot skillet.

Suddenly, he shot up from his chair and strolled over to the pantry, yanking open the small door, causing its hinges to creak loudly in complaint. His eyes scanned the shelves before resting on a large clay jar. Reaching out with both calloused hands, his long fingers closed around the cold, smooth surface and lifted it, the muscles in his arms tightening slightly when they registered the weight of the container. Trey brought it over to the table and placed it there gently before walking to the fridge and pulling out some milk, eggs, and a stick of butter. When all the ingredients had been placed safely next to the jar, he took a large mixing bowl out of a cupboard and got a whisk from a drawer next to the stove.

”So basically, you get some flour—“ he opened the clay jar and scooped a bit of the lumpy white powder into the bowl, not bothering to measure it since they didn’t own any measuring cups anyway-- “and you mix it in with eggs, milk, and water.” He glanced at Rosie to make sure she was paying attention. Trey didn’t have much of a knack for cooking, but breakfast fare never seemed to elude him like other forms of food. After pouring in some milk, he walked over to the faucet and dispensed a bit more water than what was necessary—but hey, he was no chef.

Grabbing an egg, he cracked it off the side of a small bowl before jamming his thumb into the opening and pouring the insides into the bowl. After he had checked for shells, Trey slid the egg goop into the mixing bowl and then handed Rosie an egg, gesturing for her to do the same. ”You just crack the egg and pour it in the bowl—“ he nodded towards the smaller bowl-- “then you have to check to see if there are any bits of the shell still hanging around. If there are any, you fish ‘em out and then you shlop it all into the bigger bowl. He said “shlop” with a not-so-attractive slurpy noise and then he laughed. “After that you use the whisk to mix it all together, but you have to make sure you leave a few lumps or the pancakes’ll be all flat and nasty. Got it?”

[/size] he declared, sticking his tongue out playfully. I blushed a little at his "Piggy" joke. Realizing I had scarfed down all of his bacon yesterday, I wiped the jealousy from my mind. He deserved that bacon more than me. Though I was trying to wipe the memories from the other night, he did do more for me than I will ever be able to do for him and I couldn't forget it. No matter how hard I tried. I blushed even more when he realized I had raided his drawers. The maroon sweatshirt that held in the warmth I'd obtained from his body pressed next to mine was worth all the blushing that so well matched it's color. "Huh, Sneaky?"[/size][/color] I giggled at his smirks. For a moment our eyes met and we flashed our smiles back and forth at each other. Something stung in my stomach. I realized the feeling was familiar. I guessed I never had the chance to realize it was there. When the feeling surfaced, something always happened too fast. The feeling did happen, I realized, when Trey kissed me, or before I kissed him.... Just being around Trey caused these little tingles in my tummy. They only lasted for a moment, but this time, it lingered. The feeling mixed with hunger was becoming unbearable and at last, Trey's eyes left mine. He stood up abruptly and walked to the pantry while announcing it was time to make pancakes. I started after him, but the pain in my stomach came again.

Propping my head up on with my hand, supported by my elbow on the table, I watched Trey dreamily while he spoke and gathered things. The world seemed to disappear and my eyes only focused on Trey. His movements were so fluid and confident. I wondered how he balanced. When I was around him, I had to think where my feet were supposed to go. It was something I tried to hide, but it always existed in the back of my mind. Suddenly, there was an egg in my hand and he was talking, but I couldn't hear him. I nodded like I understood and when he looked at me like he had asked me a question, I froze. His eyes were causing my stomach to burn again. I craved for his lips to be on mine. They fit there so perfectly. Before I could stop myself, I dropped the egg and grabbed the back of his head, pulling his lips into mine. I kept my lips firmly pressed into his and kept my hand at the back of his neck so that he couldn't pull away. The tingles in my stomach were cured and the feeling of my lips on his was more comfortable then anything. I pressed my body into him so that my curves filled his. We had never been this close.. My heart was racing, but I was not going to let go.

I leaned into him. My foot slipped and it landed on Trey's. Gooey substance squished in between my toes. I let my lips slip away from his slowly, realizing that was the egg I had dropped. I spun around and covered my mouth with my hand to keep myself from laughing. A few giggled slipped out and I walked to the fridge, fetching another egg. When I was back at the table, in front of Trey, I cleared my throat. "Like this?"[/b] I chuckled out. It was hard to hide the laughter that wanted to burst from my lips. I cracked the egg in two, skillfully. I was familiar with the concept, as I had made eggs many times before. Scooping up the goop that hung on the edge of one of the cracked shells, I tossed the shell into the sink. I walked back to the table, tussling Trey's hair as I went.

Trey realized after a moment that Roselyn wasn't listening, but when he looked back into those baby blues of hers, he didn't find a blank look or any sort of vacancy within. They were filled to the brim with a desperate longing, so much that at first Trey was a bit intimidated. Instead of an answer, Rosie's narrow fingers went to the back of his head right where it met his neck, pulling him towards her. Their lips met so forcefully and with such spontaneity that it send a shock and then a steady flow of electricity through his whole body, reaching all the way to the tips of his fingers and toes as if he had shoved his finger in a light socket, rendering himself unable to find the strength in his limbs to pull away.

His arms wrapped around her tiny waist and hers went around his neck, two sets of vines constricting the two of them and pulling their bodies closer, closer until the empty gap between them had vanished entirely, lips to lips and chest to chest and hips to hips. Trey's heart was so close to hers that he could feel both fluttering and pounding in perfect sync with one another, and each second spent with his body pressed tightly against hers made his beat faster and with greater force until he thought it might burst from his chest. Still, his strong arms pulled her closer and closer against him until it was hard to discern which body was which. Trey wanted to be closer, every inch of his body screamed at him to go further until they had melted together into one being, but his conscience told her he couldn't, this wasn't the right time or place to make that happen.

When Rosie leaned against him, he felt the icy touch of her bare feet against the rough surface of his own. Something foreign and slimy squished in between them, and Trey's lips spread into a rueful smile against Rosie's as he realized that it was an egg that had decided to cruelly sabotage their perfect moment of happiness. Damn. She seemed to be handling it with good humor, however, as she retrieved a new egg and cracked it off the side of the bowl before tossing the shell in the sink, returning to Trey and tousling his hair with her fingers. He seemed too caught up in his own internal thoughts to hear her question; instead he pursed his lips, as if it would allow him to hold onto the feeling of Rosie' own lips pressed against them, and stepped over to the table to continue cooking.

"Now," he told her, "You have to mix it together." Their sudden outburst of passion had instilled within him an idea, and in his reluctance to so suddenly let go of the high he'd gotten from her touch, he stood behind her and wrapped his arms a bit hesitantly around her waist once again, pressing his body tightly against hers. His hand found the whisk on the table and slid it into her grasp before wrapping around her closed fist and guiding her hand to the bowl, showing her the motion in which to stir the pancake batter. "Like this," he whispered, his lips brushing gently against her ear.

I was wide awake now.

Trey's stare was blank as I looked back for his approval of my egg cracking. Why had I dropped that damn egg? I stared at the egg that had substituted the one that was squishing between my toes. Keeping my back towards Trey, I chuckled a bit. I always thought of him as the compulsive one, but I was the one that drew him into sudden bursts of passion. Trey stepped back over to me.

"Now, you have to mix it together." Slowly, his arms found my waist again and he pulled me close so that my back was pressed up against him. I tingled all over and the beating of my own heart pounded loudly in my ears. It felt so right to be close to him. His body so close to mine felt exhilarating yet it calmed me. All the cold had left my body, and now the warmth of Trey so close to me made my cheeks turn a rosy red. His hands found the whisk he had placed on the table and he unwrapped my fingers so that it lay delicately in them. His fist closed around mine and his other arm stayed at my waist. He moved my wrist around in a circular motion while breathing softly in my ear. I tingled even more. His breath made it so tempting to just whip around and kiss him again, but his strong hand enclosing mine was more lovely than any kiss. Just him touching me, even briskly was exhilarating and excited me. "Like this," he whispered in my ear. The pang in my stomach resurfaced and I turned my head so his lips were on my temple. I watched his eyes as they focused on guiding my hand in the batter. If it were not for his grip, I would have dropped the whisk.

We stirred the batter slowly, and only after a long while did all the evidence of yoke and flour disappear. I took his arm that was around my waist and laced my fingers with his, encouraging his grip around me to tighten. The sound of the whisk slowly moving through the bowl made a sort of rhythm, and I swayed my hips to it. Trey's body followed mine as our hips swayed in synch. Not even paying attention to the whisk in my hand, I lay my head on his shoulder and our lips touched again. I didn't full out kiss him, but the moment that our lips touched made me want more. Resisting my urge to ruin his grasp around my waist and his strong grip on my hand I let my head rest on his shoulder. I was sure I wanted his lips to be on mine, but in this moment was one I would let his lips find mine first. He breathed on the crown of my head and soon my eyes fluttered close, gentled by the gentle swaying of our hips.

OOC:Sorry this is so short. I like it when you make them do stuff xD Like, it's Trey's house so xD. I cried last night after truly realizing how much I want a Trey and how ridiculously adorable this thread is xD

Rosie's fingers interlaced with his own, pulling his arm tighter around her waist. Then she began swaying her hips to the rhythmic scratch of the whisk, and after a moment Trey felt her grasp on the object in her hand loosen. As she let her head fall backwards onto his shoulder, Rosie's lips brushed fleetingly against his for just a fraction of a second, the pancake batter momentarily forgotten by her easily distracted mind.

A rumble in Trey's stomach kept him from getting carried away, however, and he remembered that when making pancakes, you weren't supposed to stir them too thoroughly. Even though Rosie's were perfectly relaxed, Trey's eyebrows were furrowed slightly--he didn't really want to ruin the moment for her, but he was hungry and he supposed Rosie was too. "Rosie," he said to her softly, "We need to make the pancakes now, 'kay?" As he slowly detached himself from her, his cheeks reddened slightly. He hoped he hadn't offended her, but honestly he had to admit to himself that his parents' kitchen was not the time or place for this. If his mother would have walked in just then...

Pushing that thought from his mind, Trey shot an apologetic look at Rosie and then turned to the stove, turning on a burner. His hand hovered over the skillet until he could feel the heat radiating from it. Then, he picked up the bowl of pancake mixture off the table and carried it with him. Using a small plastic cup, Trey scooped a sizeable dollop of the mixture out of the bowl and poured it in the pan, where it accumulated in a circle and bubbled on the top with a light sizzle. He waited silently for a few minutes until the heat had popped all of the tiny bubbles before he flipped it over with a spatula, smiling slightly at the fact that he hadn't even burned it.

When the pancake was finished, he turned off the stove and slid the pan from its burner after flipping the pancake onto a plate. Reaching into the refrigerator, Trey pulled out a tiny pitcher and a stick of butter, sitting them on the table with the plate. He buttered the pancake a bit sloppily before pouring the thick, sickeningly sweet syrup onto it. "This is maple syrup," he explained to Rose. "My mom made it. I'm not sure how she did it, but it tastes good." He took a seat across from her at the table and handed her a fork. "Try it," he told her, his eyes eagerly searching for approval.

I should have been hungry. The smell of Trey's bacon still lingered in the air. He made it up to me though. All I was hungry for now was him. I wanted him to hold me forever, and for a moment, I thought he would. But like all moments, this one had to end. He spoke softly to me, telling me we had to continue with the pancakes. I chuckled. He treated me with the delicateness he would use when handling his mother's most prized china. Like I was the most fragile thing in the world. I was not. I didn't mention all I had endured during my life to him, but he still should have concluded I was strong. I was by no means a fragile plate made of expensive glass, nor were I a piece of unbreakable metal. The idea of him caring for me so much as to think thoroughly before he spoke so that I wouldn't shatter made my heart flutter, but my forehead wrinkle. I had never been pampered, nor had my feelings ever mattered before and I just wasn't used to it. But every now and then I was sure I could. I wouldn't though. I knew that I could never forget how to be strong. It was my nature, or what I had come to be.

My grip was loosened on the whisk and now he unwrapped his fingers from mine. The whisk dropped onto the table, as I hadn't bothered to keep hold of it. Maybe I was letting on that I was fragile. Trey had done almost everything for me since I'd met him, and if it wasn't him, it was his mother. His mother.. I wished she wasn't lurking about. I chuckled softly at the memory of yesterday morning. He looked at me with apology in his eyes. I smiled at him, encouraging him I was fine. Again, I felt small and fragile, but I let him take over the pancakes. I didn't know how to make them anyway. He had walked towards the stove and despite my wanting to follow him, I sat down at the table, avoiding getting in his way. I still watched with intensity as the batter turned from a gooey substance to a flat bread-looking patty. He went to the fridge and grabbed a stick of butter and a jar of brown liquid. Before I had time to ask what it was, the substance was poured over the patty and glazed with butter.

"This is maple syrup," he said, almost reading my thoughts. "My mom made it. I'm not sure how she did it, but it tastes good." I wanted to believe him, but it didn't look all that appetizing. He sat down across from me and pushed the plate towards me, telling me to try it. I looked at him again, and the eagerness in his eyes forced me to. Slowly, I cut off a piece of the patty with surprising ease, making sure to get some syrup and butter on it just to please him. It made it's way to my mouth and my teeth chomped around it.

My taste buds soared.

The taste was sweet and delectable and made my stomach growl, asking for more. My eyes stared at the pancake on the plate wide open and I quickly chewed at swallowed the delicious treat. "That is... amazing." I told him. Sweetness hit my tongue and my mind couldn't conjure up any words to describe the taste in my mouth. As I was about to swallow, I also got a milder taste that I guessed was the pancake. I looked at Trey before taking another bite. There would not be a repeat of yesterday. I would slowly eat my food like a lady. That was much more attractive than my gulping down every bite. I straightened in my chair, trying to look strong and attractive. Trey still sat across the table from me. Pausing my eating, I looked into his big brown eyes. They were like pools of oil, but I loved them. I had once met a person with eyes like his, but I thought they were ugly and unnatural, but now, they fit Trey perfectly. I continued to stare longing at him. He was so beautiful.

I set down my fork, even as the pancake on the plate longed to be eaten and stretched my arm across the table, intertwining my fingers with Trey's. This was something we had done so many times now, but it still felt like seeing a shooting star for the first time. His touch, even on my hand, sent shivers up and down my spine. I gobbled up the rest of the pancake, forgetting to be lady-like and put my other hand in his. I wanted to say something, but I couldn't find the words. Already, I had told him how I feel about him, but I wanted to do it again. Tightening the grip on his hand, I looked into his deep pools of oil. I could get lost in his eyes for hours. My eyes moved down to his lips. I remembered the touch of them to my own lips. Moving on down his front, I remembered burying my face in his chest and hugging to him like he was life itself. He very well could be called life itself, if it weren't for him, I more than likely wouldn't be here, eating his pancakes and getting lost in his eyes. I moved my fingers around his, filling every crevice and dip in them. His hands were the one's that carried me from my raging father. The one's that cooked me breakfast for the pass two days. His were the hands I never wanted to let go..

I wanted to tell him this. I wanted to pour myself out to him. I wanted our bodies to touch like they had earlier, so that no space remained between us. Only this table was stopping me. I stood and leaned across it, kissing Trey on the forehead. Thank you, that was delicious,[/b] I told him. My voice wouldn't say anything else. I ruffled his hair a bit before walking into the kitchen to put my plate in the sink. Standing at the sink, I gazed out the window, hoping when I turned around, Trey would be there to hold me again.

Rosie seemed a little unsure at first, but she eventually gave in, cutting off a piece and sticking it in her mouth. It only took one movement of her jaw, a quick bite, for her eyes to widen in surprise. Trey grinned at the expression on her face, his smile growing even wider when she said, "That is... amazing." No one had ever complimented his cooking before, partially because it wasn't that good and partially because he usually only cooked for himself. Rather than shoveling down her food like before, Rose ate slowly, seeming to savour each bite. As she chewed, Trey waited patiently.

Rosie paused for a moment to stretch her hand across the table, grasping his hand before gulping down the rest of the pancake and interlacing the other hand with his. Brown eyes met baby blue ones, and as Trey could feel Rosie's eyes scanning him, his rough thumb stroked the soft skin on the back of her hand. Her long and slim fingers seemed so small in his own lumberjack-like hands, and Trey felt like if he held them any tighter they might shatter. They were the same age and they'd come from the same place, but he felt so much stronger than her; she was so fragile, even though he never would have told her that.

Rosie leaned across the table to plant a kiss on his forehead, thanking him and ruffling his hair. His eyes followed her thoughtfully as she walked towards the sink and looked out the window. To think, he'd just met Rosie two days ago, and this morning he'd kissed her in his mother's kitchen. Time flies. It was a little strange, but he supposed maybe you didn't think about those things in times of crisis. Honestly, he'd been so caught up in everything that had happened lately that he hadn't even stopped to consider--maybe he and Rosie were going a little fast? Then again, he had saved her from her crazy father, and didn't the fair maidens always fall in love with the knight in shining armor?

The thought of Rosie's dad brought up another sour topic, one that had been nagging at the back of his mind ever since last night. Even though he didn't really want to, he was going to have to adddress it sometime today. He pushed himself out of his chair, walking over to where Rosie stood at the window. His eyes gazed out at the trees through the window, reluctant to focus on Rosie's for once as he leaned against the cold countertop near the sink. "Rose... My dad and I are gonna walk down to your house today... We'll grab your clothes. I don't want you to be there in case your father's home," he finished, finally meeting her eyes.

Trey joins me at the sink and casually leans on the counter next to me. I watched him, waiting for his eyes to meet mine. I knew the electricity it would shoot through me, a feeling I've come to adore. Just the feel of him next to me made my heart pound in my chest.

"Rose... My dad and I are gonna walk down to your house today... We'll grab your clothes. I don't want you to be there in case your father's home." God, no. His words hit me like a dagger in the gut. Which was ironic because I had actually felt that before, but this was no time to be ironic. I gaped at him. Did he really expect me to let him go like that?! He had risked his life to save me more than enough times. Now I had to take care of myself. "No. Trey. Just no. You have to understand. I cant, no, I wont let you."[/b] I was almost begging him. It was not easy to tell him how I felt or why he shouldn't. I wanted to kiss him and ease him out of the idea like he did me yesterday, but I couldn't bring myself to. He was too important to me now. I couldn't loose him. "I can't tell you.. I just don't know.. I love you. I could never loose you. I could never risk loosing you. I could never.. I just.. You have risked your life for me too many times already. It's my turn.."[/b] Tears leaked into my eyes and I crossed my arms. I probably looked like a kindergartner that was playing a game, but I just couldn't let him go. More so, his father. I wanted to keep Trey's family out of this as much as possible. Grabbing him, I pulled him close to me and threw my arms around him. My tears ran on to his shirt. I knew he would never understand. I knew he would insist.. I just couldn't let him.

I valued his life more, but deep inside me I knew he and his dad would be able to fight off my more than likely drunken father. A pang surfaced in my stomach again, but this time it was more painful. Jerking my hand to my stomach, I let my forehead lean on his chest. If I was as fragile as china, would this convince him I would break? Would this be enough to convince him he shouldn't go? My heart pounded in my chest. I was being over dramatic, but if that's what it would take then so be it. Racking my brain for anything I could say to let him let me do it, I let my hands find his waist again. It was strange how accustomed I was to this closeness between us, but I let the thought leave my mind as soon as it came. "Trey. The least I can do is come with you. Just me and you. He-"[/b] I was determined not to call him my father. It embarrassed me. "won't be home after the sun sets anyways. We can go then. We can get my stuff and go and never go back. Just me and you. I don't want to drag your parents into this. They don't deserve it and I can't ask them to do anything more for me. Do you know how hard it is for me to sit here and be so taken care of? They don't owe me anything more. You don't owe me anything more.."[/b] The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them. He needed to know what I was feeling before he interjected, as I was sure he would.

I pulled him down so that our lips met before I could have second thoughts about it. It was a desperate kiss, and one I hoped to be more convincing then my words. I continued to hold his face in my hands as I looked into his brown eyes for an answer. I wouldn't break his gaze. I would be strong. The tears had dried by now, but streak lines still covered my face. I snuffled and waited, hoping he would answer with a simple "okay", but I could see in his eyes that I would get more than that.

The look of immediate dread on her face had been expected, and Trey prepared himself for an arguement. Rosie couldn't seem to find the right words. "No. Trey. Just no. You have to understand. I cant, no, I wont let you. I can't tell you.. I just don't know.. I love you. I could never lose you. I could never risk losing you. I could never.. I just.. You have risked your life for me too many times already. It's my turn.." It took him a moment to realize she was crying, and he pulled her in close as she threw her arms around him. As she sobbed quietly into his chest, he ran his fingers through her hair for lack of words. Why didn't she get it? She was important too, it wasn't just about him. He wasn't the one with a crazy drunken father--if you could even call him that--who wanted to kill him. Did she think he would break that easily?

"You are the only thing I have precious in the world..." Trey's eyebrows furrowed as he realized she meant it. With her mother gone, the only family she'd had left was her deadbeat father. At least he had parents who loved him, cooked for him, provided for his needs. Rosie... she didn't have anyone. That was why she was so upset."Trey. The least I can do is come with you. Just me and you. He won't be home after the sun sets anyways. We can go then. We can get my stuff and go and never go back. Just me and you. I don't want to drag your parents into this. They don't deserve it and I can't ask them to do anything more for me. Do you know how hard it is for me to sit here and be so taken care of? They don't owe me anything more. You don't owe me anything more." Hell no. There was no way she was going back there, not if he had anything to say about it. Why couldn't she see that he only wanted to keep her safe? He loved her too, and he'd seen her beaten up and bloody, he'd carried her home when she was on the verge of death. Rosie didn't know what it felt like to watch someone get hurt like that, had no idea what it meant to feel so afraid for someone like he had for her that night. He couldn't--no, he wouldn't--live through that again.

Wrinkles appeared on his forehead as he opened his mouth to protest, but Rosie beat him to a reply. Her lips met his for what seemed to be the eighth time that morning, but never before had she kissed him so desperately,as if the kiss would change his mind. But, quite frankly, nothing would have changed his mind. For some reason, his need for her to understand fueled a desperate anger inside of him, and he found himself raising his voice at her as he spoke. "No. There is no way in Hell you are going back there. I won't let you." His eyebrows knotted together. "Rosie, why don't you understand? I care about you too, okay? Your... your dad isn't after me. He didn't try to kill me, he tried to hurt you. I can handle things on my own, I'm a man, you saw what I did last time to that no-good son of a-" He cut himself off. "You... you don't know what it's like, to see someone hurt like that. All that blood, Rose, I-I can't do that again." To his surprise, tears threatened at his eyes, but he blinked them back. "If you loved me, you wouldn't make me do that again. Please, Rose." Shining and on the brink of tears, his eyes pleaded for an agreement. He was furious at himself for allowing them to do so--it made him feel weak, when he just wanted her to realize he was strong enough to handle things. "Please. Let me go," he repeated, though this time it just sounded like a low rumble in his throat.

Tears stung the lids of my eyes as Trey's eyes told me nothing I had said made him change his mind. And his words only proved that.

"No. There is no way in Hell you are going back there. I won't let you." His voice was raised into almost a yell and I started to back away, but I couldn't bear the thought of not being close to him. "Rosie, why don't you understand? I care about you too, okay? Your... your dad isn't after me. He didn't try to kill me, he tried to hurt you. I can handle things on my own, I'm a man, you saw what I did last time to that no-good son of a-" I knew he was right and he had cut himself off, but still, the words I knew were itching to tumble out of his mouth about my father made my chest ache. He was a father to me once, and being with Trey the past few days had reminded me of it. I looked up at him, taking in how short I was. I didn't mind usually, but now it made me feel small. Knowing very well I would not win this time, I let my face fall back into the comfort of his chest. "You... you don't know what it's like, to see someone hurt like that. All that blood, Rose, I-I can't do that again." I could sense in his voice that tears were threatening at his face, but he must have blinked them back, for he continued. "If you loved me, you wouldn't make me do that again. Please, Rose." My heart ached. I let my gaze wander back up to his again, just soon enough to hear him say, "Please. Let me go."

How could I? How was I supposed to let him go? I let my tears drip down my face in single drips. I let him hold me for a moment longer before returning his argument. "Oh, Trey,"[/b] Tucking a loose piece of hair behind his ear I stared into the eyes I adored so much. "Just promise me something."[/b] I couldn't believe I was actually giving in, but I couldn't stand to see him in the pain he was so obviously enduring. "Promise me, you'll be careful. I know you can handle my-"[/b] seeing him as a father was too hard. "-him, but if you can, see that it doesn't come to that. You may be able to handle him.. but you can't handle a bunch of Peacekeepers."[/b] Another tear dripped from my eye to his shirt. Saying that made me think of last night and my nightmare. That can't be real. I won't let it. "And promise me.. that no matter what happens.. you'll still love me," I finished, in fear that my father might tell him something that isn't true, or that.. No. My father won't be there. Trey will come back. I will have my own clothes, but loving being wrapped in the warmth of Trey's sweatshirt, I told myself I would continue to steal his.

"Oh, Trey," she began, her eyes meeting his. "Just promise me something." The dull ache in his chest subsided slightly at her words of surrender. The taste of bittersweet satisfaction lingered in his mouth instead--he knew he had won the arguement, but still, he might have to face Rosie's... legal guardian again. "Promise me, you'll be careful. I know you can handle my... him, but if you can, see that it doesn't come to that. You may be able to handle him.. but you can't handle a bunch of Peacekeepers." Trey nodded slowly. Abstaining from violence was one thing he could do, as long as Rosie's father kept in mind what had happened last time. If that was all he had to promise, then he would do it gladly. He'd have agreed to anything, if it meant that she would stay safe, away from her father. Still, if that slimeball tried anything, he was getting another hard kick to the crotch.

"And promise me.. that no matter what happens.. you'll still love me." This caught him off guard--the desperate tone of her voice frightened him. Of course he'd still love her. How could he ever stop, now that he'd started? It'd be like trying to tell a river to stop flowing. His eyebrows furrowed at her as he responded, startled that she would even suggest something like that could happen. "Rosie, that's like telling me not to stop breathing." He held his little finger out at her, prompting her to wrap her own around it. "It'll be okay. I pinky promise," he told her, smiling slightly and hoping that his childish gesture might lighten the mood. When he felt her pinky wrap around his, he brought their joined hands up to his lips and kissed the back of her hand.

Trey's eyes flicked to the bowl of pancake batter still sitting on the counter. "Now, do you wanna help me make the rest of the pancakes? We shouldn't let all that batter go to waste..."

Trey nodded slowly, but as I brought up still loving me, his expression changed to confused and frightened. I didn't mean to frighten him, I just couldn't lose him. It had only been two days, but it had been the best of my life.

"Rosie, that's like telling me not to stop breathing." It made me stop breathing to hear him say that. My heart raced and it felt like it would jump right out of my chest and enclose him in an embrace. I wanted to kiss him more than anything, but before I had the chance, his pinky finger was extended at me. Examining it for a minute, I wrapped my own little finger around his. Tingles went up and down my spine. It was crazy how amused I was at the feel of his skin on mine. The only thing that bothered me about this moment, was that our pinkies were blocking me from kissing him. I craved his lips on mine. But again, he broke my thoughts and desires with his kind and childish words. "It'll be okay. I pinky promise," He brought our encased pinkies to his mouth and gently kissed the back of my hand. My stomach lurched in excitement and a pang surfaced. With my other hand, I held in my dancing stomach.

"Now, do you wanna help me make the rest of the pancakes? We shouldn't let all that batter go to waste..." By now I couldn't resist. I let my lips find his for just a moment to calm my cravings a bit. My stomach lurched and my heart was telling me to do more, that his lips on mine was the only thing I needed. I was sure he was tired of kissing me now, but just the fact that I could made me want to. Letting my hands find his, I guided him in such a way so that he was behind me, his forearms brushing my hips and our fingers enclosed. His hands moved along the backs of mine and I turned my neck so I was looking at his eyes. I let myself forget about everything. The only thing that mattered was that he was mine, and I was his. The space between us didn't exist. We were one, at least that's how I said it. I unwrapped my hand from his and brushed his cheek, denying myself the pleasure of kissing him.

"Show me."[/b] I put my hand back down on the counter and wriggled my hands back into his palms, wanting him to guide my hands like he had earlier. I might be able to resist kissing him, but his touch was something I felt I couldn't live without.

It seemed like Rosie thought every question could be answered correctly with a kiss. The answers differed, but this time Trey could tell it was a yes. Not that he minded kissing her, of course; her lips fit perfectly into his, like two pieces of a puzzle. In fact, he was still drunk on the thought that he could kiss her, whenever he wanted to, and so he kept on returning her touch over and over. Oddly enough, Trey doubted that it would ever get old.

Rosie turned him around, so that they were in the same position as they had been when they'd mixed the pancakes. Raising a soft hand, she glided it along the hard edge of his jaw where a light morning stubble had surfaced. "Show me," she said, sliding her hands back into his so that he could captain them once again. Obliging, Trey turned on the stove and guided her hand to the bowl of batter on the counter.

He showed her how to pour it in a circle before sitting the bowl back down, and then he watched as a few bubbles began to surface on the pancake. "You wait until all the bubbles pop, and then you flip it," he instructed her softly. He did just that, waiting until all the bubbles turned into little holes and then using the spatula to turn it over. "That's all. Easy." He did the same thing for three more pancakes. Trey thought for a moment about letting Rosie try it for herself, but he didn't want to let go of her.

When they'd run out of pancake batter, Trey detached himself from Rosie and carried the plate of finished food to the table. Being the true gentleman he was, Trey pulled a chair out for Rosie becore seating himself across from her. Busying himself with the preparation of his own food, he left the task of continuing the conversation to Rose as he buttered his pancake.
