Should I stay or should I go?
The Plot
It began with hushed voices in the gym after training, and an innocent question. “What would you do if you could leave District Four?” For some, the answer weighed heavily on their minds. What if there was a way to leave? To begin a new life somewhere else, away from the ghosts that haunted their pasts? The simple query turned into a spark of an idea. A few of the children who were sick of the system met secretly, wondering at the possibilities. Soon, it turned into a full-fledged plan, and together, they would make their escape. They would leave the walls of District Four behind forever. A group of young careers who had lost all hope of ever getting out can now see a light at the end of the tunnel.
This primarily takes place in district 4, but as they're leaving the district and becoming wanderers, it would be possible to include characters from other districts.
The Characters
Kai Yondall // Female // Thirteen // Bio
One word can describe Kai: determined. She is determined to leave District Four, and she’ll need all the help she can get. Good luck getting her to admit that she needs your help, though, as she considers herself highly independent, and hates to rely on others. She’s rash, and usually acts without thinking, which is why she needs a level-headed person to hang around with, to keep her from doing something stupid. She sincerely hopes to get back to District Nine, but she’ll settle for just getting out of Four first.
Karin Harris // Female // Sixteen // Bio
Karin is the sweetheart that everyone wants to be friends with. She is innocent, far too trusting, and never fails to assist when her help is required. When she learns that a group of children plans to run away, she knows she has to go with them to keep them safe. She will often try to do the right thing, even if it puts her (or others) in danger. Not that she’s all that outdoorsy, or will be of much help in a dangerous situation, seeing as how she never trained as a career. She is optimistic about most situations, sometimes to the point of irritating the others.
Mathew Harris // Male // Eighteen // Open
Mathew is Karin’s older brother, and unlike her, has always been anxious to escape the district. He planned to set out on his own, but couldn’t leave his sister to defend herself and a bunch of little kids. He only wanted to get his sister and get away, but as the oldest, the others admired him and he was thrust into a leadership position. He is terrified of that responsibility, and of putting the others in danger, so he is highly paranoid of anything that might get them caught.
Charlie Willcut // Male // Fourteen // Open
Charlie has always been frail and sickly. Due to this, he is not always able to keep up with the others in… I don’t know, doing the outdoorsy survival stuff runaway kids do. I’ll come back to that. Anywho, he trained as a career with the hopes that it would make him stronger, but it didn’t help much. He did, however, meet a group of kids who talked about running away. For him, this meant a place where he wouldn’t be judged for not being a very good career. He hates the fact that he’s dependent on others, and tries to do things for himself whenever he can.
Wren Williams // Female // Sixteen // Bio
Wren is the mystery of the group. She seems harmless enough, but you should never trust the quiet ones. She is highly secretive and manipulative, willing to do anything to get what she wants. She has shown anger issues and violent streaks in her past, but swears that she’s better. The only question is whether or not to trust her.
Sophia Ladros // Female // Twelve // Bio
Sophia is the one everyone tries to protect. She seems defenseless and innocent, the kind of girl you just want to cuddle. Who cares if she’s a bit quirky? Well, kleptomaniac to be exact, but we don’t need to give it a name. She has an obsession with shiny things, and will not hesitate to take them and make them her own. Sure, she may feel bad about it later, but who cares when she gets to keep all the beautiful, sparkly things for herself?
Please Note: Kai is an already existing character of mine. It started out with me wanting one other person who would accompany her on her escape, then expanded to this. It’s my first plot, so I’m pretty open to suggestions. I’m totally okay with changing names, ages, character traits, etc. as long as it all makes sense in the end. If you already have characters that would fit in this plot, by all means let me know. The more the merrier!
