Trey laughed as he checked my stomach. Then, he abandoned his clothes and waded into the water. For a moment, I hesitated, but it was short moment. I quickly threw off my clothes and skipped after him. Stopping at the water's edge, I looked around for Trey. He was no where to be seen, and I'd never felt so lonely in my life. I frantically moved further into the water, pushing it aside with my hands as if it would reveal him. His head popped up above the water much further out in the pond then I'd expected him to go. I was up to my knees in the water, and the temperature of it just hit me. It felt like little prickles of ice stabbing into my legs and forcing my arms around myself, hoping to contain some of the warmth left in my body. But I knew Trey would bring warmth back into me, so I was already up to my waist before he told me to come on.
The water reached my stomach, and I cringed away from it, the cold leaking all over me, draining the little warmth I'd hoped to obtain. Trey was still farther out, and he seemed to be drifting further away the more I tried to approach him. Maybe wading in ice cold water wasn't such a good idea today. I'd had my mind made up, and I turned back to shore in a haste. As I turned, I realized, only too late, that I was on the edge of an underwater mini-cliff. The depth dropped off past my height if I'd drifted any further away from shore. And as I turned, my heel, without anything to stand on, fell down the mini-cliff, and the rest of my body followed. The water stretched over my head as I scrambled to get some sort of traction, hoping to escape it's grasp. I fought for the surface, it dangling to tauntingly over my head. My arms scrambled for it helplessly, my legs kicking violently behind me. I tried to scream, but instead of the sound escaping my mouth, only my breath left me. This caused more panicky motions from my limbs, and I would have given anything to be back at the surface.
I was helpless. I couldn't swim. I had no idea what to do. My shaken brain tried to find something, anything, that might help me. But I was at a loss. I flailed for something I could find to pull me up, my lack of oxygen starting to blur my vision. Suddenly, a pair of arms wrapped around me. I wanted to fight them, not trusting myself enough to believe they were Trey's. But as I surfaced, coughing up tons of water, his face was the first thing I saw.
