District Five is home to all manner of bizarre, mismatched family units, but none of these exist in such sequential chaos as the Magpie family. All seven children are totally individual, but all still seem to fit perfectly together, like lines in a verse. Their home is not well decorated, and they aren't particularly wealthy, but the siblings, along with their mother – shifty and bitter – and their father – who is rarely at home, part of Panem's network of delivery teams – still manage to keep going. However, since the queer circumstances of the disappearances of Mother Magpie's younger twin sisters, the children's beloved aunts, the superstitions surrounding these Magpies seem to be taking effect…
The Characters[/color][/blockquote]
Justice :: Female :: Eighteen :: Charade
[/blockquote][/justify][/blockquote]Justice Magpie is a dead girl walking. Ever since she was a child, she has felt like a little piece of her was missing, the piece that anchored her to the real world, and without it she is fading away. She has tried many different things to reassure herself that she hasn't disappeared yet – from covering her room in different sized panes of mirrored glass, to dressing only in bright colours to establish a sense of presence, to physically beliting herself to banisters and railings in order to prevent her body floating away – but still she is filled with a sorrowful grief for her own imminent non-existence, mourning herself in a premature state of loss.
Meryem :: Female :: Seventeen :: Specialk
[/blockquote][/justify][/blockquote]As the second hatchling of the Magpie family, Meryem quickly grew close to her mother's own younger sisters. As a result, she was the child most affected by their sudden, inexplicable disappearance. For a time, she was almost as sorrowful as Justice, but she quickly found her own solution – literally: a concentrated mixture of antidepressants and hallucinogens imported directly, secretly, from the Capitol, where even this drug is illegal. Now, Meryem can often be found indulging in her addiction in a haze of perpetual joy, waiting alone by the drop-off point or mumbling delightedly, semi-conscious and totally carefree.I highly recommend Emma Elina Kiera Jones as the Face Claim!
Kirk :: Male :: Sixteen :: Danny
[/blockquote][/justify][/blockquote]With two older sisters and strong maternal influences on his life, it surprised next to no one to return home one evening and find twelve-year-old Kirk tottering about in his mother's shoes and dress. While, at first, the family passed it off as just another phase of Kirk's naturally obsessive personality, as he grew older, the boy realised more and more that he felt, simply, as if he had been born into a body that simply didn't fit. In the sale of all his aunts' possessions in the months after realising they would likely never return, Kirk was able to keep choice items of their clothing and accessories, and is perfectly comfortable in wearing them publicly or privately, finally feeling more connected to his true gender identity.Callikrates Schiele, guys?
Savoy :: Male :: Sixteen :: Cass
[/blockquote][/justify][/blockquote]It is hardly amazing that the child considered the "only real boy" of the Magpie flock should be so much like his father. Savoy is ambitious, determined and, most of all, filled with a desperation to leave the family nest as soon as possible. At every opportunity, of which there are few in a Middle District, Savoy strives to be noticed by Panem's government officials, working with District Five's mayor or simply looking presentable at the Reapings, and not being seen with his bizarre twin. Savoy's boyish essence, a preference for physical work and a firm distaste for the femininity of his family, makes him one of the most certain and secure of his siblings.
Celeste :: Female :: Fifteen :: Kay
[/blockquote][/justify][/blockquote]Although the children are all Magpies, Celeste is the chick who most takes after her winged namesake. From the day she, a dazzlingly pretty seven-year-old, first received a silver locket from an admirer in her class, her obsession with beautiful, shiny trinkets has gone beyond her want of a relationship with any of the numerous people who provided her with them. However, after a time, simply using her natural beauty and easy charm wasn't sufficient for Celeste – stealing all manner of attractive silver objects, cutlery and coins as well as jewellery, was so much simpler. She keeps her treasured prizes hidden around the Magpie home, admiring them privately whenever she has the chance.
Elodie :: Female :: Fifteen :: Arx
[/blockquote][/justify][/blockquote]Elodie has never been anything but a cuckoo child in the Magpie nest, adopted because the mother's want for a house full of chirruping children dominated her suspected definite, and abrupt, infertility. This sense of disconnectedness – the differences in her features to those of all her 'siblings' – is something that makes the nights she spends in other people's well paid company all the more relieving. Enduring days as an alien in her own coop, Elodie's midnight meetings in other strangers' beds, anonymous rather than a recognised outcast, are a source of temptation, not of repulsion. The coin, or gifts of jewellery, she takes, and the opportunity to escape the suppressing Magpie cage, are what get her through her difficulties feeling like an outcast.
Halle :: Female :: Thirteen :: OPEN!
[/blockquote][/justify][/blockquote]After two years of no more children for Mother Magpie, Halle's appearance into the world came as a pleasant, if not inconvenient, shock for all the family. With many of the others still infants, Halle was sometimes more neglected, though never on purpose. However, it isn't on purpose that accidents happen, and after a horrific injury which meant near death for the young girl, her throat and vocal chords were severly damaged. Halle was rendered a totally songless Magpie. Though this was primarily a real nightmare, she soon discovered that loss of voice made her an adept listener, and she quickly learnt many things she shouldn't, and witnessed multiple sights she mustn't. Only Halle knows the depth of some of her siblings' desires, problems or obsessions, and Halle alone understands the true circumstances of her aunts' disappearances, never to share them with anyone…
