I've drifted off into my own little world again, pleased to think of the more filling meal we'll be having. My parents will undoubtedly be curious to as where I got got so much bread, but I find it unlikely they'll question it. No matter where it comes from, a meal is a meal. "I'll bring some everyday if you want. Plus I hunt out here. So, maybe if you want. We can hunt together sometime?" I'm a bit taken aback by his offer. I hesitate not sure how to reply. "I - uh... I mean I - I don't really...need..." I stutter, trail off, giving subtle shake of my head. Bread every day? No, I don't need that much help. This one gift is plenty, and I am grateful, absoultely. But that first statement bothers me a bit. I am perfectly capable of putting food on the table. We don't always go to bed with our stomachs full, but we manage. And compared to some we are better fed. Not many are willing to brave the woods. I always try to gather as much plants and berries as I can, and drag back as much games as I can get. Not only for my family's benefit, but for other's as well. I usually try to spread out my trades in the hob, but like anyone working hard to keep themselves and their family alive, I'm stubborn and a tough trader.
I twist my mouth around awkwardly, and finally answer his second question. "Sure," I say with a slight smile. I'm actually quite happy to have found a hunting partner, it will make for lighter loads and I'll have someone to watch my back, and visa versa. I haven't really had that luxury since my brother was killed. I really need to stop mulling over that so much. I glacne breifly at his pack, wondering what he might use out here. "What do you use to hunt?" I ask curiously. He has a blade, yes, but it's not all that easy to hunt with a knife. I'm consider a bow, but I've heard that peacekeepers are more strict here, so I would find it difficult to get a hold of one, even if it was hidden in the forest. That leaves snares, I suppose. I know a few basic ones, but usually stick to my bow. I'm much better with it. In the winter I'll use them more often, becasue much of the larger game has dispersed by that time. On occaision, I even fish, craft a pole out of a lengthy branch and use a bit of string and an old, rusty hook. I know a small pound a good distance out, which laso happens to be where I learned to swim, but I rarely venture out there because it's a rather long hike, and there's plenty of game closer by. I look up, ignoring my thoughts, curiously awaiting his response.
