It takes literally all I have not to punch my neighbors lights out. Kalina's calling my name, which makes me hold back more than usually. Under different circumstances I would have long fought back because I'm sick and tired of the harassment, even if neighbors are supposed to get along.
I'm on my best behaviour around Kalina though. yet I don't want to come off as a coward.
"Mind your own business." I growl at the guy but he doesn't listen at all. Instead he waits for Kalina to come down and then mocks her and me. I hate the way his grey eyes are roaming all over her. It's not a lustrous way but dangerous. Why he's picking on her the way he does I'm not sure but I don't like it one little bit. I think it's time to talk business.
"Don't talk to her like that." I snap at the old, stinky fellow, who hasn't shaved in a month.
"Don't talk to her at all." My eyes are narrowed and he must know that I'm dead serious. The man knows what I'm like so he must think that the cast will be hindering me from starting a fight. He's wrong!
With Kalina in front of me I hesitated though. I really don't want her to see my bad side or worse, get caught in the middle. She's pleading with me so I sigh and nod at her.
Of course the neighbor has to keep pushing my buttons. "Since when have you become such a sissy, James?" He grins with yellow teeth.
Then he does something that I simply can't tolerate. He takes Kalina by her arm and pulls her aside to shove her out the door. "This ain't a place for little girls. You got no business here, you keep disturbing me!"
No more words leave my mouth as I move in between them, push him away from Kalina and let one well placed punch on his chin follow. The upper cut throws him back against the next wall while my left hand holds Kalina behind me to protect her with my body. Hopefully she'll be clever enough to make her way out the front door until my neighbor has settled down.
