I nodded. I felt I was pretty much already in her debt for even helping me to begin with, even though she was my sister. I fallowed her up to the lab, stunned by how neat looking it was. This was nothing like the mine, which had everything -- including the inside of my lungs -- covered in black soot. But this place, even though I'd only seen the outside, looked sleek and very clean to a point where I was awed. "Just stick next to me until opening time and nobody'll say anything." My attention went back to Nadia, and I gave another nod to acknowlage her command.
I felt somewhat awkward just standing beside her while waiting for her manager to show up. Or at least I think that was what we were doing; I wasn't quite sure. But as a sudden, booming voice called her out, panic set me frozen where I was. That wasn't my boss, was it? It sounded an awful lot like him, how he would yell at the miners if they were even breathing wrong. But as I turned to see who it was, I was relieved -- but not for long. Nadia may lose her job over this trip to District 12, which put a damper on my hopeful spirits. I didn't want her to lose her job... that would be horrible. My job meant everything to me to keep Mother and I on our own two feet, so I could only imagine how Nadia felt about her job. For a moment, though, I was tempted to snap a few harsh remarks at the man for talking to her that way, though I didn't. I had no reason to get involved, especially since I wasn't even a resident of District 6. I simply resorted to just narrowing my eyes at the man, holding myself back. We wouldn't be gone very long... it really only took me about two days to get from 12 to 6; but that wasn't the issue. It was how long we would be staying in 12.
