The kiss was surprising, but not all together unpleasant. In fact, it was quite nice. But before he could really react to it (and he really wanted to react to it), she pulled away, muttering something about a girlfriend.
Girlfriend?
--
Allen had been walking with Moa, talking about something completely random, when he'd bumped into her, causing her to spill all the papers in a file she'd been carrying.
"Oh, sorry Moa!" He'd said, dropping down to help her pick them up. "I made you..." There was a very long silence as Allen stared down at the papers, the photos... Lots of photos. Of him.
Moa grabbed the file out of his hands, photos and all, and held them close to her chest.
"These aren't spy photos..." She'd said, too quickly. "These weren't taken without permission...
It was then that Allen, officially creeped out, had explained, gently but firmly, that it might be in their best interest for them to be friends and to start seeing other people.
She hadn't taken this well, and Allen was still looking behind his shoulder after every turn in the road...
--
It was, predictably, Dimitri who ruined it, who pulled her away before he could explain anything. That he liked her, and that he'd broken up with Moa a week or so ago because she was stalking him (creepily...).
And then she started to cry...
Allen held his head in his hands, the confusion of the series of events crushing him.
"Dimitri..." He said, sounding more tired than angry. "How about you think about someone other than yourself for more than a minute and a half? I know that's going to be something of a challenge, but even someone as inherently evil as you should be capable."
He tried to shuffle through the last five minutes and found them straight-forward, yet bafflingly confusing.
"Just... give me a minute, yeah?" He said gently, to Sarah, smiling a bit sadly. Mrs. Hearst sobbed into her hands and Allen's hand went absently to her shoulder as he stared silently at the floor, trying to make heads or tails of all the information his poor brain had just gotten.
Timothy's dead.
Sarah likes me.
These two things where marvelously simple, but so incredibly life-altering that Allen was left a bit dazed.
