The keepers were on them in seconds. They had finally found some peace when this man had come into the clearing and f*cked everything up. The worst part was the mechas that accompanied them. On instinct, he threw himself and Melanie to the ground in the low creek. Bullets zinged over their position and Ghost heard two cries.
One was John. This is bad. he thought as a thud reverberated throughout the makeshift trench. He motioned for Melanie to wait while he got a look. He peeked his head over the lip to see a mecha down on it's side, peacekeeper pilots abandoning the ruined machine. Scar was in Ghost's hands and aimed at the pilots who were trying to flee. Scar reported five times and five pilots went down. He saw a form laying down aiming from the side at the keepers and realized who he was looking at. John was up fighting the keepers with a pistol.
Ghost scanned the area and found the man on the ground, clutching his foot. Ghost slid back down to where Melanie was. He looked into her eyes and gave her some instructions. "When I say 'go' head for John and try to help him out. He is a little off to the right. I will try to help out the new guy." Ghost was about to say 'go' when he remembered something else. "Oh, watch out for the mechas out there. He yelled out the word 'go' right afterward and began to sprint to the wounded man.
Scar gave a sharp report every once in a while and he had a few near misses with bullets, but made it to the man. He put his arm across the man from armpit to armpit and began to retreat to the trench, Scar spitting every few seconds. They made it to the trench and he pulled out some bandages. The foot was shot straight through and would need a lot of bandages. Thankfully, the blood had already started to clot when he applied the bandage around the foot. When he finished, he went back to the lip to rejoin the fight.
