Ghost watches unbelieving as one of his fellow wanderers was hauled into a helo. He heard the man that had saved him yell off to his left, but never got to look. All he noticed when he fell onto the ground was that he was unarmed. He picked himself up and looked at the leader who was pulling a handgun out of a holster. The girl was gone. ((ooc: sorry for the swearing) That little traitorous bitch. he thought as Lucas leveled the handgun.

The first explosion was enough for the leader to lose his balance as well as his aim. Ghost then noticed his gun in the mud. It looked like a scar, sitting there in the mud. Scar. He liked the name and dove at it. A small piff came from behind him as well as a gunshot. The leader had missed him and was busy reloading when a second, larger blast blew Ghost forward through the mud.

There was a dull pain in his shoulder as a small metal piece impacted on the leather sheath for his sword. Scar was in his hands as he stood up, bloody and muddy, in the dark. That's when he noticed the man charging at the leader with a sword. Ghost looked around and found the girl in the shadows, being snuck up on by her own people. It took him a moment to realize that they had just shown up.

Ghost was stuck. Save the girl? Help the man? He quickly came to a compromise and fired a round at the leader. It didn't hit flesh, but Ghost wasn't aiming for flesh. The handgun went flying off into the night as Ghost turned back to the girl. He fired a shot at a keeper and hit a tree behind them. They turned and he grabbed the girl, covering her mouth, and receded into a shadow. "Don't ask me why...but I'm saving you. Your own guys were trying to take you out." He pointed at the keepers that were looking around frantically for them. "Just stay calm and don't say anything. Just know that he..." Ghost pointed at the leader for effect, "...wanted you dead and he.." He pointed at the man from nine,"...wanted to save you. So be grateful that I spared you Ms. Traverson." There it was. She now knew that she was a Traverson. I hope this won't be used against me.

I struggled against the boy's grip. I considered biting his hand, which was clamped around my mouth, but he removed his hand once the peacekeepers left, which was soon enough. I still struggled to break free. If I didn't get to Lucas fast enough, I knew he might get killed. "Look," I said harshly, "Maybe those peacekeepers did want to kill me. Maybe they didn't. Maybe they were just trying to get me out of here. I don't know and I don't really care either. But if there's one thing I do know, it's that Lucas loves me, and he would go to the extreme limit to keep me safe. And if he wanted to kill me, he had 8 years to do so." I searched around for the gun I had been holding before. If only I could get my hands on that it, I could just kill this insane boy and get out of here to go save Lucas. But the pistol had fallen out of my grasp quite a while ago, about 10 yards away.

Suddenly, I remembered what the boy said. He'd called me Ms. Traverson. "Wait...what do you know about that...about the name 'Traverson?'" Did he know my mom or something? I knew her last name was Traverson. But I hadn't heard that name in such a long time though. I hadn't seen my mother for years. "Look, just let me go now," I said calmly, trying to pretend I was on his side, "The peacekeepers are gone...and well, uh, thanks, I guess, for saving me from them."

When I saw that one other wanderer take Melanie, I smiled. Perhaps he was going to talk to her, and convince her that Lucas was on the wrong side, the bad side. The Capitol was ruthless, vicious, and disgusting. I could not imagine ever being one of them. As I charged I stared at where we were. A plain field, with a small, shallow river running through it. There were too mud patches, caused by the air circulating where the hovercraft was and the helicopter had been. Around there was plenty of bullet holes, and then of course there was a firey mess to the right, where the helicopter's remains were. Around it were plenty of bodies, and only two of them were alive. One was wheezing heavily, and the other was pinned below the copter.

It was sick, but it wasn't time to put them out of their misery, right now I had to deal with Lucas. Suddenly, I noticed his gun was gone. He was holding onto his hand. Perfect. I jumped in the air, straight at him. My sword was held back, and it would soon swing at him. But in a last act of revenge, he aimed his watch at me.

"No," I whispered. And he pressed a button, and another one of those rockets flew at me, it was only smaller because it had to fit on his arm. I unsheathed my knife, and threw it at it. The rocket exploded, directly in front of me. The blast flew my across the field, into the shallow river. I fell there, and heard Lucas, maniacally laughing.
"Die, district scum!" He spoke to me.
I felt my left arm. It was in the worst condition, with a piece of metal lodged in it. It was a good thing it wasn't my sword arm, which would have had me dead for sure. I stood up, wet and bloody. He was on the ground know, with some kind of black sword in his hand. But something was strange about it. It seemed to be glowing.
"Sorry, Lucas. But Melanie isn't your property. You may pretend you love her, but you don't. I love her, like a daughter. And you sir, are not going back to the Capitol."

I ran at him, and his sword clanged against mine. I jumped back, and countered. I parried, and stabbed at him, but he was too quick. I tripped, and fell in the river. I slammed his sword down towards me, but I scooted over, just in time. And the force he had used pulled him in the river. I stepped back and he laughed. He thought he had me, but he didn't. He pulled back, and yelled. And right when his sword was about to come at me, I stabbed him. Right in the heart. He didn't say anything, but a small, 'aah', and he fell headfirst into the river. Lucas, was dead.

Ghost kept holding onto the girl as she tried to get free. He put his mouth right next to her ear and whispered, "I knew your mother when I lived in 12. He stopped talking and watched as the man was blown backwards by some sort of explosion. He heard the words that Lucas yelled at the man.

"Die district scum!"

Ghost looked down at the girl trying to register something on her face when the man spoke up. "Sorry, Lucas. But Melanie isn't your property. You may pretend you love her, but you don't. I love her, like a daughter. And you sir, are not going back to the Capitol."

Ghost smiled. That series of sentences was perfectly timed and loud enough for them all to hear. That should get her attention. he thought as the two men skirmished. It ended quickly in the river. Lucas died with a fast stab to the heart. Ghost made sure that Scar was in his hand before he let Melanie go. He wasn't going to take any chances and he backpedaled to the river, his eyes alert and watching Melanie.

He reached the river and jumped in right next to the man who had removed the blade from Lucas's body. Blood stained the black combat gear that he had lifted from a keeper he had killed in the early stages. Ghost looked back to the girl, following her every movement.

"I knew your mother when I lived in 12," the boy whispered into my ear. "She was always nice to me, until she set off some kind of explosive that killed some people who were trying to rebel." I kept my mouth shut. I didn't feel like talking about my mother. Instead, I kept struggling against the boy, kicking and thrashing, anything to get to Lucas.

But of course, the boy didn't let go. Instead, the only thing I could do was watch the scene, with no way to get to Lucas, no way to save him. "Sorry, Lucas. But Melanie isn't your property. You may pretend you love her, but you don't. I love her, like a daughter. And you sir, are not going back to the Capitol," John said. I shook my head. John didn't understand. "Lucas!" I shouted. "Lucas!" I needed to get to him. I kept my eyes on the scene in front of me, watching every move closely. Then, right at the end, John raised his sword quickly, and I knew it was over. "No! Stop!" I screamed as loud as I possibly could, begging for my dad's life. But the sword entered his body. And then Lucas was dead.

The boy let go of me and I ran straight towards the stream. I treaded right through the water, tears pouring down my cheeks and then collapsed right next to Lucas's dead body. I reached for his hand, and pulled it into mine. Lucas's hands were one of the things defined him in my mind. The rough scars and calluses always calmed me, everytime I held his hand. To me, it always meant protection. And the warmth, the reassuring squeeze he always gave me when I took his hand. But now, his hands were cold as ice, and the feeling of protection disappeared. Of course. Because Lucas was dead. More tears came.

Suddenly, I looked at the waterproof watch on Lucas's wrist and pulled it off very discretely, dropping it in my pocket. Then, slowly, I let go of his hand, letting it fall limply back into the water. The surge of sadness I had been feeling turned to anger. I stood up, my clothes soaked from crouching down in the stream. I looked towards John and the boy, who were in the stream, not too far from where I stood.

"You monsters!" I screamed at them. I clenched my hands into fists. I wanted to kill them. I wanted them dead. I would have literally attempted to tear them to pieces that moment if I didn't see the weapons in the boy's hands. I had to stop myself. "You sick, sick monsters!" I screamed the words at the top of my lungs, knowing probably half of Panem could hear me. "Now I understand why the Capitol hates you people so much! You go around, thinking you can befriend people like me, and then just go kill their family, the people they love! And you think you know him, you think you know who he is, what he does, but you don't! You don't know anything! And the worst part is the fact that you actually made me sit there, watching it happen, knowing I could do absolutely nothing about it! I mean, you might as well have killed me first!" I didn't even stop to realize that's what the Capitol was doing to the Panem citizens, killing their children. But instead, the bloodlust in me grew more than it ever had before. I desperately wanted to kill them both right now, teach them a lesson. But they both had weapons handy. I didn't. I clenched my teeth, taking deep breaths to keep myself from charging straight towards them. I hate them. I hate them. I hate them.

My hand suddenly went to my pocket, and I felt the watch there. I smiled secretly. I had forgotten how much the watch could do, but suddenly remembered. Slowly, I took it out, trying not to let John or the boy see. I held it behind my back so John and the boy wouldn't be able to see. I had no idea how Lucas's watch worked, but I knew it held all sorts of weapons and communication systems. I fingered a few things, trying to figure the watch out. Maybe I'd be able to somehow contact the Capitol. I wasn't sure. But I decided to take my chances. I took the watch out from behind my back where I was holding it, and pointed it out in front of me towards John and the boy. Before either of them could react, I pressed a single button on the watch, not having any idea what it was supposed to do...

Melanie ran up to me and the boy. She was obviously furious at us, at me. Hopefully she would soon understand.
"You monsters!" My heart sunk and my legs felt wobbily. "You sick, sick monsters! Now I understand why the Capitol hates you people so much! You go around, thinking you can befriend people like me, and then just go kill their family, the people they love! And you think you know him, you think you know who he is, what he does, but you don't! You don't know anything! "Mel," I spoke loudly. "It had to be done," but those words wouldn't be heard if you were face to face with me. I saw her fiddling with Lucas, and something else. I didn't care what she did right now, I just knew that I had to come up with a plan to get her to understand. But I couldn't think of anything. Lucas was horrible, he had done bad to so many. But, who was I? Sure they grabbed children out from under us, and we were forced to watch them fight to the death, live. But maybe I am just as bad as them. Maybe I-

"Come on honey, we have to run to the butcher and grab some meat for the weekend."
"I'll be right there mother!" I spoke down to my mother. I grabbed my dark green hunting jacket, and ran to meet my mother at the front door.
"Did you put some water in your hair?"
"Yes mom, yes," I replied honestly.
"Alright then," and she opened the door for me.
As we opened the door I saw people running all in the same direction. I gave my mother a look asking, 'whats going on?', and she motioned for me to follow her. There was a huge crowd in the District Square, and up on top, there was a man, so familiar. Lucas, holding onto the hair of an older lady. He spoke in a loud, evil voice.
"This is what happens when you disobey the almighty Capitol, and hunt outside of the kindly provided woods, we give to you right here," he pointed to the forest I practiced hunting in with my dad.
Now, Lucas pulled out a pistol, held it to the women's head, and my mother quickly covered my eyes. I heard a shot, and then the crushing of bones. When my mother moved my hand, the woman was on the ground, dead, obviously with several broken bones. I had nightmares for weeks.

-BACK TO THE FUTURE-

"If only you knew, Melanie." I had been tormented by such things in my early life, and the more and more I saw it, the more and more I hated the Capitol. I waited for the others to say something.
Then, Melanie aimed a watch at me, and the boy. I winced, wondering if this was the end for me, and then... sound came out from the watch.
"Boom boom, dance with me baby! Boom boom, hug me baby! Boom boom, lets dance in the moonlight! Ohhh, yeah! Wooohooo! Boom boom, dance with me baby!"
I raised one eyebrow, and listened to the strange beat with the funky sounds and noises. I turned at the boy, and simply shrugged.

I couldn't help snickering. The bloodlust in me died down a little. "Okay, okay, whatever, forget about the stupid watch," I said, throwing it into the river. I looked over at Lucas's dead body, and then back at John. Who's side was I on? I wanted to kill John for what he did, I wanted to kill both John and the boy. But Lucas...he had been there for me. He had sung me to sleep, he had taught me how to ride a bicycle, he had been my father. How could I forgot all of those childhood memories? I looked at John and then the boy, the mixed and confused thoughts making my head hurt. I still hated them for what they did, I still had the faint desire to just...kill them, but no, all at the same time, I felt an admiration, for John. I didn't really know the other boy though, I didn't even know his name.

I thought back to the watch and started giggling again. Maybe I just had to move on. I mean, where else was there to go now that Lucas was dead? Hesitantly, I started walking closer towards John and the boy. Once I got a bit closer, I stopped. "Okay...well...I guess I'm with you guys now. I still hate what you did, but...I'll try to get over it...and I'll try not to kill you...I mean, I won't kill you." Maybe they were right about Lucas. Maybe he was just a ruthless killer. "But just...don't trust me. I can't even trust myself. And if I start to go psycho or something, kill me right away."

I walked a little closer to John and the boy, holding my hand out, seeing if one of them would seal the deal by shaking it.

"Okay...well...I guess I'm with you guys now. I still hate what you did, but...I'll try to get over it...and I'll try not to kill you...I mean, I won't kill you." "But just...don't trust me. I can't even trust myself. And if I start to go psycho or something, kill me right away." He looked at her for any semblance of betrayal as she walked up and stuck her hand out. Ghost was hesitant at first, but took her hand and shook it. He looked right at her and said, "I don't believe that we have officially met Melanie. My name is..." He debated on telling her his real name before just sticking with the nickname, "...just call me Ghost." he finished.

When the music played, it actually got Melanie and the boy to laugh. I was happy, maybe Mel would actually stop hating me....

I couldn't help smiling, maybe we- the three of us, could actually go back to live a peaceful life in District 9. I mean, we don't know where to go, but I'm sure we'll get there soon. It will be.... fun. Wow, I hadn't really had fun in a very long time. I, I mean wow. I was excited. Melanie held out here hand, I would of shook it if the boy hadn't first, so I kind just laid my hand out.

"I don't believe that we have officially met Melanie. My name is..." The boy paused, "...just call me Ghost."

So, his name was Ghost. Well, at least I don't have to refer to him as the boy, or, the one that was unconcious. I smiled. I held my arms out towards both of them. "Group hug!" I smiled at the both of them. I was happy, they could be my family, and my sons and wife would be too, when we got back home. "So...Ghost, do you think you want to come with me to District 9, maybe live with us? I'm sure you will love my sons they're about..... 16, 14, and 12 right now, I believe." I'm sure Ghost will take to one of them.

Then, my eyebrows raised. Someone was watching us. Hmmm..... Then I heard a snap, and it was confirmed. I let go, and spun around with my sword already unsheathed and in my hand. It took me a moment to notice the human shape, right across the field from me.

Ghost let go of Melanie's hand when the man yelled "Group hug!" Really? Ghost thought as he was smashed between the man and Mel. He had never been hugged until this moment since his parents died. Then the man asked if he wanted to stay with his family in District 9. The man spoke about having three sons with one being his age.

Ghost was about to respond when he heard a twig snap behind the man. Scar was up and in his hands in less than a second and pointing at the figure. He couldn't make out any type of weaponry, but knew that there had to be some. He looked at the man next to him. "I won't be able to stay permanently, but after I leave I could visit every year." The forest was his home, where he could be free. He kept Scar aimed down at the figure, waiting for something to happen.

Ryan had just finally gotten to into a hell of a fight back in district 9 now he was in their forest trying to get away from a squad of peace keepers. He knew he was making to much noise but he didn't care how many people would be crazy enough to be out here. He was not in this field not knowing what to do it was either go into the city again or stay here. Ryan checked his magazines on his peacekeepers outfit. "Dang 6 magazines left." He didn't know what to do.

Ryan then got this weird feeling like he was being watched. He turned slightly to see people through his peripheral vision and could make out 2 people. 1 had a weapon and the other he didn't know. Did he want to risk getting shot or make some friends at this weird district. Ryan yells over to the 2 people he see's "Hey you are you friendly or not." He now had his finger on the selector moving it to semi auto and cocked the gun in case things got hectic. He was glad he had stolen this outfit because of the armor it used if they had a gun then he had protections. "So how bout it you capital scum or district scum."

I stood there ackwardly as John and Ghost both took position. I turned and squinted to where they were looking, just enoguh to make out a figure in the dark. I had no way to defend myself, so I just stood there, waiting. "Hey you are you friendly or not," the boy said, turning our way. "We're...friendly," I said. I was so sick of repeating and repeating and repeating our story, but looks like I'd have to do so at least one more time...if this boy was trustworthy. I looked to John and Ghost, waiting for them to say something, to make some kind of response.

Ghost looks up as Melanie says they are friendly. He then looks back at the form and notices something he hadn't before. The guy was dressed just like a peacekeeper. But he seemed different. Nevertheless, Ghost kept his gun trained on the man. That's when he answered the second question. "I don't live in the Capitol or the districts." he said thinking about how that might not be true at the moment with John asking him to live with them. He waited for John to say something before he acted.

Hmm.... If he's in a peacekeeper outfit, and he looks like that... then who is he? I hold up my sword, "Who are you? And why have you come to us?" Suddenly, out of the corner of my eye, movement. I turned towards it, and yelled, "Here they come!" And charged at them. I don't know what the others were doing, but I knew that I, am not going down after all of this without a fight.
I watched in horror as 6 Peacekeepers with high caliber machine guns emerge from the forest into the clearing, but that wasn't it. Were they following the boy? I didn't know, but behind them, 3 mechas with more Keepers flanking them. I ran at the Keepers, with a bullet catching me in my left shoulder and elbow. Then, I tripped on a rock, which actually helped me roll at them. I landed at the foot of one of them, and slid my sword across his feet, with a yelp he sank to the floor. Then I stood up and they opened fire. I knocked another out with the butt of my sword, but another opened fire. I slouched, as I could not handle anything more. Then a mecha swung, and I flew into the bushes. I laid there, gasping for air.
I was stupid, the bullets hurt more this time around, and I kept trying to breath. I grabbed my knife and tried to pull some of them out, but the pain was strong, I didn't know how much more I could handle. I got three out when I started getting double vision. I pulled some cloth out and tried to stop the bleeding, but it was no use, I had taken too much damage. I nestled into my cloth, and breathed deeply, maybe somehow it would stop before I lost too much. My exhaustion started to give in, and I got a few more bullets out before everything went black.
It turns out that when I awoke, it was only several minutes later, but it felt like hours. The bleeding had stopped, but I still couldn't fight. I tried to find something to help, but nothing. Then I heard a voice close by, over the gun fire, and two Keepers peered into my bush. I smiled, and stabbed one in the face with my knife, and the the other one in the stomach with my sword. Then I saw it, a small pistol, but deadly, right on one of the Keepers vests. I reached for it, but it seemed a mile away. Just a little closer, just a little, and then, I grabbed it, I slid my upper body into the clearing, and opened fire on one of the damned mechas. It hit it in the glass, and then fell over, which means I must have got it. Then I continued to fire, hoping I could get in there soon enough.
