So many things were happening at once and I could barely put two and two together. If this Mutt, whatever it was, was after me. It could have me, it didnt have to hurt or attempt to hurt everyone in the process. So while the others were attacking I grab my longest knife, the blade two and a half feet, and try and stand up. Of course this isnt working due to the metal encasing my ankle. I had to think of another way. Sighing I begin to roll over onto my stomach. My ankle was now becoming numb so it didnt hurt, but I was afraid to look down.Once I was on my stomach i get on my right knee and steady myself. Thats when I begin to see it. The fur was made of metal if they couldnt hit it. The boy had a spear and was trying to fend it off. The other girl stabbed it in the paw making it wither in pain. I had no clue how this girl knew so much about these mutts but then again, different districts, different experiances. She yells for someone to hit it in the eye and I know this is my chance. Closing one eye slightly the mutt began to see me, smell me. It turned toward me, toward the blood really. Now was the time. Holding the knife ready I bring it back and thrust it foward.
It was like slow motion at first. The knife leaving my hand and then heading toward the mutt. But I wanted to keep it's attention, and eyes on me and my injury as long as possible. So, without really looking down, I grab my ankle and hear the metal shaking against the bone and whatever else was below. This made the mutts eyes stay focused on the wound. The mutt was so focused it didnt notice the knife until it was a few centimeters too late. The knife had lodged itself an inch into its eye, leaving an inch and a half out. In a way this was just like hunting for fish, something I had been good at. The Mutt twisted and thrashed for a few moments before the life was gone.
My knife stuck in its eye and eveyone staring at me as if it was a miricle. But they obviously dont know that i was trained for this sort of thing. Killing things with one shot, thats what I was good at, tourchuring them with minor hits, not so much. I brought my hand up to my face to wipe off the sweat when I found blood, and lots of it, smeared over my hand. Almost becoming sick I lay on my stomach and wait for the feeling to go away. I had never been trained for it, for this much blood loss, on ways to deal with this sort of thing. Thats why you always protect someone from District two. So they can help you in this sort of situation. But this wasnt the games, this was real life. I either had to die or live through it. I pick the later.
