"Here, come on up." I can't believe I'm doing this. I haul myself onto the horse--I still remember some from that failed lesson years ago--and sit tight.

It's so high up here. The ground looks so far away, but I refuse to think about it too much. After all, I spend half my time up in the trees, and those are high, too. This is just like sitting on a tree. It's just capable of movement, that's all.

The rhythm of Spree's steps is awkward at first, but Terrin looks like she's just relaxing and letting herself bounce so I do the same. Terrin guides Spree back along the path we came, but it's getting dark. I hope we won't be lost, stuck out here for the night. The forest is part of the District; sometimes remains of the Capitol's cloning experiments and other animals lurk out here.

An animal's eerie cry startles me. I open my eyes and see the gray light of twilight. It's getting dark, and fast. I take out my notepad and write as legibly I can with the bouncing of the horse, How much longer? It didn't take this much time to get here, did it? Where are we? The sun is sinking, as is my heart as I show her what I've written. I only hope we can get home before it's too late.

I read her note and look around. "Well, we should be..." Suddenly, as I look around, I realize how unfamiliar this place is. I don't want to get Cherry nervous, so I say, "Oh, I think we're almost there," but truth is, I have no idea where we are. I must've taking a wrong turn at one point, because I know that this isn't where we should be going. Soon, the darkness gets thicker, until the sun is completely invisible and I can barely see anymore. Then, I hear a howl in the distance. Even I'm getting nervous. Perfect. Suddenly, I look around and see two bright eyes staring out at us from a bush. It looks like a wild animal, but all I can see is the eyes and that's it. My heartbeat grows. I don't want to point it out to Cherry because then she might get nervous too and I definitely hope that Spree doesn't see it either, because otherwise, she'll probably be going wild again.

"Well, we should be... Oh, I think we're almost there." Ok, so at least one of us knows where we're going. I wonder if Spree does, too. I relax. If Terrin knows where we are, then we'll get back. I rub my eyes and bounce along again, leaning slightly on Terrin's back.

She tenses suddenly, but doesn't say anything and quickly relaxes again. I poke her. It's now too dark to write. You O-K? I ask slowly and with simple motions. Point, O-K. Point, O-K.

I realize I should probably tell her, or show her. I point slightly at the eyes, slightly turning the position of Spree so that she doesn't see it. The eyes suddenly start to get a bit larger, and I bite my lip, begging Spree to keep moving, giving her a slight kick, but she resists. "Come on Spree! Go!" I whisper in a yelling tone at her. "Why do you have to do this now?"

She shows me the glowing eyes. A rumor I once heard comes to mind.

An old grandfather in our District that everyone ignores once told me. He warned me not to go out into the forest late at night, saying, The forest is full of dangers at night. It's not supposed to be that way, no. I remember a time when the forest was a beautiful place; one could find such solace in the forest. But that was when I was young, a mere child. Then, District 13 rebelled, and the Capitol became much more careful. Their labs created beautiful spies and cloned ghosts from nightmares, which the released into the forests and wildlands. Beware, because now the forest is not safe. Any valuable information spread in the forest is heard by the Capitol, and if you venture too far or into parts the Capitol doesn't want you to be, the ghosts of the nightmares, animals with huge bright eyes of many colors and black fangs, will devour you. They will devour you, because that's what they were created to do.

"Come on, Spree! Go! Why do you have to do this now?" I turn from my thoughts and realize the horse has stopped. Such reliable animals. They jump at the smallest things and don't help out when help is needed! I hold on, hoping now that the horse will lumber forward again.

The eyes are growing. They come closer, grow bigger, fill with bright muddy yellow, the yucky color of hunger.

Spree refuses to move and I say to Cherry, "Come on! Quick! We need to get off Spree! She's not doing us any good!" I hop down from Spree as quick as I can, not daring to look at the eyes again. Once I'm off, I reach out my hand to help Cherry down. Once we've both gotten off of Spree, I look at the bright eyes coming closer. It's a wolf. I can see it, even through the dark, but it doesn't look normal. I take a slow step back and watch as it comes closer, growling and snarling loudly. I whisper to Cherry, "Run," and then quickly I take off, hoping that Cherry's right behind me. I don't have time to look though. I can only wonder if the wolf is following behind...or if it caught Cherry. I don't even know where Spree is, but she's probably coming. Hopefully, or maybe the wolf got her too. Or maybe they're both right behind me, Cherry and Spree. There's no way to be sure. I bite my lip and keep running, resisting the urge to look back.

After Terrin runs off, I stand frozen for a second, staring into the wolf's eyes. Then, I remember Spree, who's still standing there. Grabbing Spree's halter, I pick up my whistle and hope I'm doing the right thing. There's a whistle call that works on our dog at home. I blow it, and the dog knows to go back home. I wonder if a wolf can understand... It's not trained to obey, but something about the whistle should hopefully tame it...

I tense, ready to make a run for it, as I blow the call. For a moment, nothing happens. The wolf freezes, startled by my daring to make such a shrill sound. Then, its eyes turn almost red. I think I've angered it.

I sprint away, after Terrin, jerking Spree behind me. The poor horse--at least it won't get eaten. We run for a while before I realize how absurd I must look. Stopping for a moment, I realize Spree's a good horse--calmer than the one that caused my accident, anyway. I take a deep breath and inch my way closer to Spree.

Then, in a sudden burst of daring, I pull myself up and swing my leg over and onto Spree's back. The dizziness of the height is terrifying, but it's better than being eaten by a wolf. I hold on tight and try to guide Spree the way I do my cow, Verne. Then, I look around, making sure not to look down at the ground. I don't dare blow my whistle again to tell Terrin I'm safe, and where is she?

I finally take a look behind me, but Cherry is nowhere in sight. I keep running full speed, but suddenly my foot gets caught on a branch and I find myself tumbling to the ground. Just so happens that as I fall, I hit my head hard on a large rock next to a tree. Once I'm on the ground, I can feel blood running down my forehead and I attempt to wipe it away. I start to feel my vision going blurry and hear the wolf's loud bark in the distance. Great. But before I can even find the strength to stand up, the world goes black. Hopefully Cherry is nearby. Hopefully she'll find me here.

It's been a while now, and Terrin is nowhere near. I, still riding astride Spree, search for my new friend. I hope she's not too far away. Why didn't she answered my signals? She didn't get eaten by the wolf-creature, did she? Dread spreads through me. This was such a bizarre day.

Horse, can you find your owner? I sign, addressing Spree. He's a horse; he can't understand like my Verne can. It's dark, and an owl hoots. I shudder. Where's Terrin? Where's that wolf?

Suddenly, Spree takes a jarring step. I nearly fall off, but manage to grab a handful of mane to steady myself. Sorry! Spree turns his head one way, then another. Can he find Terrin?

Then, Spree sets off, taking control, which I don't mind because I don't know how to steer a horse, anyway. After a short while, he stops again and turns his head from side to side, sniffing. He doesn't move on, though. I'm confused. Can he not find the scent? I slip off carefully and take the halter, pulling Spree forward in an attempt to go on my own search for Terrin. He doesn't budge, though.

I turn to face him when something catches my eye. Is that--cloth? Looking closer, I see that it's Terrin! My heart leaps when I see how she's laying there on her face. I flip her over and see a patch of blood that covers her forehead and hand. It looks like it's clotted already, but the gash is still deep. She's not conscious, but I can see that she's alive. Sighing in relief, I try to pick her up. Spree seems to understand and comes closer. Somehow, I manage to get Terrin halfway up her horse.

It is at that moment that I hear the howl of the wolf again, except this time much louder than before. I draw in a sharp breath and glance around. The eyes are nowhere to be seen, but that doesn't mean much. I quickly secure Terrin on the horse before scrambling up myself. Then, I nudge Spree to run, which he seems more than willing to do. We sail off into the night, away from the sound of the wolf, and into a little clearing with a river. I think we're closer to the District now, but I'm not sure. Hopefully we won't have to stay out here all night. Will would worry, and so would ~~Mrs. Wilson~~ Mom.

"Oh god you guys...." I look at the people, who I am chasing ever so nicely. I was lost. I know, people saying "LUCCIA PINNA LOST?

" In their excitment, but I couldn't reconize a nightengale to a parrot, so why should I care? Because I am lost, people ran. Doneito. I was probably going to perish in the forest, meet my own demise due to some type of wild animal that would just love to rip me to shreds. HOW OPTMISTIC! I surveyed the land around me, dark forestry. Nothing else, minus the exception of a tall tree with no leaves. I crawled up it, and saw my parents looking up at me.
