A splash behind me makes me glance back, Sap stands behind me, her eyes glued onto us. Her face is an odd mixture of terror and determintation.
"I will be right back," she says, whether to me or Aura I don't know. She races off into the rain. I can feel the tears sliding steadily down my face and take a steadying breath, lifting my face to the rain. After a long painful wait Sap comes back with two girls beside her, clearly her sisters. Together we lift Aura, and carry her back to Sap's house. It's a slow procession and I have to walk at an awkward angle to keep pressure on the wound. When we get to her house a scary looking man blunders into the room and Sap screams at him. Her anger frightens me, it's so out of character and I have to focus on my breathing so I don't panic again. Sap brushes off the kitchen table and we gently lay Aura on it. I keep pressure on the hole in her frame as Sap calls the doctor. I can't even feel releived, only numb.
"Aura, stay here. Don't leave us Aura. Aura wake up, c'mon hun," I mutter under my breath the words coming out in a stream like word vomit. I take her hand and squeeze it once gently as the doctor comes in, "It's all gonna be okay," I am the only one who can hear myself.
The Doctor strips her down and despite everything I feel a little awkward, but I get over that quickly. Sap and I clean towels and fetch water when needed. This is good, it gives me something to do... doesn't let me feel useless. The healer girl and Sap's sister help the Doctor as we wash the bloody towels. Sap stops for a moment and then turns to me.
"Aura will be okay..." the scentence is halfway between a statement and a question. I don't answer but I stare into Sap's eyes and know the answer is clear. I don't know.
