OOC: Okay, I'll admit right up front that the majority of this thread is for my own entertaimnemt, but please feel free to join in at any time!
School is something that students don't like. We hate it. It's boring, the teachers are dull (sometimes), and we never really do anything interesting. Nobody likes it. Well, okay, except for Fyuori. But still.
So as you'd imagine, here I am standing with my back on the fence, waiting for the doors to open. I'm always early; the sooner I'm off of my mom's hands the better. With four kids in the house and our only source of income coming from helping out at the market, I'm one of the extra burdens of the house. Being poorer has an advantage, like knowing how to get good food from classmates at lunch, but we just can't cope with this any longer. My brother and I, being the eldest of the family, are making plans (okay, it's just my brother making plans for both of us) to help out the family. My brother's going to leave school early and get an extra job; I tried to do the same, but my mom and brother won't let me, saying I "need education." So I've come to the last resort: signing up for tessarae. I mean, even if I did get picked for the Hunger Games, it'd be kinda cool to actually fight, right? And I actually know HOW to fight.
I look up and see Fyuori walking by. She smiles and says hi; I just nod back. Why does she smile at me like that all the time? But I know it makes her feel better when I respond, and despite some factors, I don't mind keeping her happy. Cause the alternative is to have me on her hit list, and that's the last thing I want. I wonder what she'll think about the news when I tell her about my decision to sign up for tessarae? She'll probably freak out.
For I moment I reconsidered my choice. Fyuori would be furious if I signed up for tessara, and it's not like my family couldn't live without it. But I still want to help, even if it might mean death in the Arena. And then I realized that I'd just die either way: in the Arena by some random kid I don't know or by Fyuori's fury. One's just quicker and less painful than the other, cause I know no matter what Fyuori would never let me suffer if she were to kill me.
Geez, those are rather creepy thoughts.
Fyuori comes by and stands next to me. We start up with a conversation about the upcoming tests in our foreign language class. She knows almost everything (mostly because she actually pays attention), so we're going through the things we need to study. Verbs and their conjugations, nouns and their genders, accusative case...they're all just blab to me. I think on my last assignment I got a C. Fyuori got an A+...hmph. Well, I've got better things to do sometimes than study anyway...
The bell rings and Fyuori and I walk into the school. I look around to see if Jayson or Patryck are already here.
There's always a period of time between the building admittance and class admittance bells for students to get in the building to warm up, eat breakfast, and socialize...though the latter isn't really what the teachers meant this time for. So while I wait, I take my usual place between the drinking fountain and the wall. Before long, I see Fyuori and Terry walk bye.
"Morning, Jay," Fyuori says. I put on my usual expression of greeting for her: a bored, "I-just-gonna-pretend-you're-not-there" expression. It's very convincing, and watching people's reactions is very entertaining. Fyuori always says that I would make a good actor, but being an actor is definitely not on my list of what I want to be. I don't have plans (plans are boring; playing by ear and procrastinating is much more interesting), but I would like to visit District 6 someday and become a scientist or engineer there. Building stuff and how things work has always fascinated me.
I look up and see Patryck walking in the door. His sister must've just dropped him off. His family is slightly wealthier than most others, so they can afford a car. Not the fancy Capitol models, but it's above average. He walks over and greets me, and I greet him back. Fyuori already left to keep Terry company while he gets breakfast in the cafeteria.
