Hunting or not?[open]

Reeve forgot her fears for a moment as she took in the sight of the ruined, yet standing, house.
More likely a mansion, Reeve thought with delight.
Although she was considered fairly wealthy in District Eleven, her home was nothing like this-- it didn't have any grandeur displayed in front of her, old and frail as it was. Vines crept up the walls and curled through windows, all of which appeared to have been gouged out, and one could see bundles of twigs sticking out of the most unlikely places. A great tree brushed against it, moonlight shining through the leaves and casting a ghostly, yet somehow calming, light on the entire building.

The moment passed; Reeve's mood darkened once more, and she glared at the dark house; how many people could be hiding behind those old, broken walls?
"Are you sure no one lives here? Or uses it as a base?" Reeve asked Annie with a frown.

A Hunger Games Champion probably lived here once, She thought. What would it be like to win the Games, and live in comfort for the rest of your life? Food for the whole District, I'm sure the Lower Districts need that... Of course, the thought of participating made her slightly sick, so instead she refocused on Annie and awaited her answer.

She wanted to make sure this house was safe. Regardless of Annie's reply, Reeve knew she would search it before she fell asleep.

Reeve shrugged, keeping her silence, but followed after Annie anyways. After a few steps she adopted a larger stride, walking fast. As she reached the stairs, she held up a finger behind her briefly, hoping that Annie would take the hint and walk as quietly as possible for a few minutes. The boards fortunately didn't creak as she used them.

Reeve pressed the side of her face next to one of the many holes on the door, her ear hovering directly over the hole. She listened, trying to catch the sound of someone breathing, or snoring, or walking around. She found nothing in the twenty seconds or so that she was there. Reeve stood back and pushed the door open. It obviously hadn't been oiled in a long, long time.

If anyone hadn't heard her before, they would have now. If they tried to hide, she would most likely hear them. Reeve inspected around her, watching the floorboards for any breaks in the dust, and tried to see if she could smell sweat or cooking, but again there was no trace. No storages of food or weapons anywhere to be seen. The water supply from the tap had apparently been cut. Nothing. There was no trace at all that anyone inhabited it.

Reeve, already coaxed slightly be Annie's reassurance, relaxed more. She smiled. Maybe this place really is completely deserted, She thought to herself. In the back of her mind, she refused to believe it. She wanted to be convinced, but she wasn't; she easily could have missed something. Reeve returned to the doorway, to Annie. "No one there, you were right." She said. "Sorry for making you wait out there."

Already Reeve could feel fatigue pulling at the edges of her mind. She waited for Annie to come in.
