„Over there.“ Even though Nick literally screamed, it was hard for Hazel to understand. The winds picked up fast, howling around their heads. She had to cover her face with her arms to prevent small branches and twigs from hitting her. Still, she lifted her head a little, enough to see the small and deteriorated shed only a few yards away. She had a hard time keeping up with Nick because he sped up again. But she didn’t blame him: She wanted to reach the shed as soon as possible. Genesis was a couple of steps behind her so she didn’t notice him falling.
Snow was falling in heavily from the sky and the harsh winds blew the big flakes right into Hazel’s face and down the collar of her coat. She tried to pull her coat even closer around her body but that wasn’t possible anymore. The freezing cold seemed to crawl beneath her coat, her pants and into her shoes and Hazel wished nothing more than to sit in a warm house and in front of a blazing fireplace. Nicks loud voice caused her to snap back into reality. ”What’s it gonna be, girls? I don’t have all night.” , he said and even though this wasn’t really friendly, Hazel didn’t blame him: It was freezing and she too wanted to get out of this wintery hell the storm brought. And it was getting worse by the minute. She couldn’t stop shivering and her teeth chattered uncontrollably. “A b-b-blanket wo-would be great.” , she said and her eyes wandered longingly to the shed. It didn’t look very sturdy but she didn’t care. It had a roof and four walls and that would be enough to keep the winds out.
Genesis seemed to make the same choice because she heard his voice, well at least a few words, sounding over the roaring of the wind. “…blanket… nice…” Hazel turned her head towards the boy and realized that he was looking at his left wrist. She raised one eyebrow, ready to ask him about it but another gust of wind hit her, blowing ice cold snow into her face. “Let’s g-go ins-side.” , she said, before turning and walking straight towards the shed, leaving the two guys behind. She didn’t care if they followed her or not, she just wanted to get into the shed and out of the storm.
