Breathe Easy and Wait - Open

"It does," I said as we rounded the last corner. Our house stood at the end of the street, "But money gives you status, status gives you control. People fear those who control their lives, where they can go, what they can and can't do."

That's why we all feared the Capitol. Even though they treated District 1 fairly well, they still controlled everything in our lives. Everything from our jobs, to our schools, our clothing, our houses, where we were allowed to go, what we watched, what we participated in. Our lives were in their hands.

I'd forgotten she wouldn't know when we were close, I was so happy to almost be home. I pointed at the house at the end of the street, probably the least flashy and gaudy, but not any less comfortable, "It's just there. As for helping the family out... It's really up to you. I help at the perfume shop, like I said earlier. Jasper wants to teach, he doesn't like being around sparklies or perfumes so the family business was out. Jade... well we're all praying she'll marry someone rich because we think she would toss a fit if she ever had to work. How much you help out is up to you. You can just help with chores, or you can wait and help at the shop, or you can do nothing. There is no work requirement to the family."

I smiled and reached over to ruffle her hair a bit, "Good. You'll find your place, don't worry about it at all."

We stopped when we reached the door. I always kept my key on a little ring my dad designed when I was just starting school. It stayed around my waist at all times, either hooked to my pants or a belt or on a sash. I unclipped it and handed it to Calypso.

"Go on ahead. And welcome home."
