"I love the way you always try to make me feel better about myself." I tell Faith because I know I do downgrade myself but for me that's just being realistic.
"If Mr. Anderson won't take me back i might not have another choice than going on a cattle drive. They pay well but honestly I don't fancy sleeping outside in these temperatures."
I avert my gaze for a moment because it would be really hard not to see Faith but much worse not to see my kids.
"We need the money, Faith. If I had to would you help my parents out with Briar and Josh?" I hope so much that Faith would say yes because she's certainly grown to the babies and knows exactly how to handle them.
Of course Faith is much more sensible than I am. She's thinking with her head not heart when she says that it's not a good idea to stay the night even if we don't touch each other. I'm a little disappointed but. "You're right." I give her a smile and unconsciously run my hand through her red curls. "Good thing you're thinking straight."
I hug her without asking permission. It comes so natural but I don't know whether she feels good about it since we decided to be friends. For some reason I have this urge to feel her close though. "Can friends give hugs?" I wonder.
The silence becomes a little awkward so I decide we need to do something.
"Can you sing?" From the corner of my room I grab and old dusty guitar.
"I haven't played this thing in ages. When I strum the strings are completely off. So I try to twist the little knobs until their somewhat in tune. Then I hold some of the strings down and strum again, which sounds much better now. Slowly I start picking trying to remember which songs I could play but the only one that comes to mind is the one Nonnie always used to sing.
"Do you know any songs?" I look over to see Faith watch me.
