The weather quickly went from scorching heat to freezing cold. The wind that comes from the sea chills me to the bone. Every time I stand on the shore looking out into the ocean, part of me wonders if my sister is still out there. She's dead. I know she's dead. Nothing exists outside of this nation. It's been a long time since she left me, and honestly, I'll never understand why she left. I'll never understand what I did wrong to make her so mad that she just walked away from me. If you are out there, Muscinda, give me a sign. I had given up on life. I didn't want to go on anymore, but someone I met at the beach one day told me life is worth going on. He made me realize that I wasn't doing any favors for myself by training since I was training to die. I do want to die, but it's not my time yet. I have to stay alive for my friends. "I'll be with you one day, Muscinda. It won't be today, but one day I'll see you again." I keep my voice quiet because I don't want anyone to hear me.
I sigh as I lower myself onto the ground wrapping my jacket around my body trying to keep myself warm. My breaths can be seen before my eyes like smoke rising from a fire. I used to enjoy the winters walking along the beach with my twin. We had a blanket we'd wrap around each other as we listened to sea. It's one thing I definitely miss, but I can't change anything now. For someone that wanted to go into the games to bring honor to our family, she walked away from us quickly. She left without even saying goodbye. I bring my knees in towards my chest. Everyone of the hairs on my arms stand as the wind gently dances across my skin sending chills running up and down my spine. If I wasn't mistaken, a storm is flying in, and it's not going to be a nice one. Winter storms from the sea is never good. They are dangerous, very dangerous, but they can bring the most peaceful thing of all, snow, the white stuff that rains down from the sky covering the districts. It's very pleasant and relaxing. No worries at all.
Somehow, I always end up here. I always end up in the place I last saw my twin alive. It's like she's whispering for me to come to this spot. I don't understand why you left, I'll never understand why, but you'll always be in my heart where life goes on. I'll keep you alive. I lower my head onto my knees closing my eyes blocking everything around me out. My hands wrap the jacket tighter around me. Was life so bad for you that you left? Why did you leave? You seemed to be so happy. Everything was working well for you, but you just walked away. You always told me to not walk away from my fears, but you did. You walked away like a coward. Anger boils through my veins as my hands clinch into fists. The sound of my heart beating echoes through my head as I look at the sea. "You're a coward Muscinda! You told me not to walk away from my problems. You told me to face them head on, but is that all a lie? You walked away from them! You're a coward!"
I take a deep breathe before I pound my fists on the ground over and over again like a tiny baby throwing a tantrum. "You took the cowards way out leaving me alone, but you know what, Muscinda? I'm going to make sure I face my problems head on because that's the best thing to do. You said so yourself!" I bring my knees back to my chest lowering my head onto my knees. I hate you for leaving me. I hate you for being a coward, and I hate to tell you this, but there ain't no way in hell I'm training for the games anymore. I don't care. I will not train ever again. "You were supposed to be my shoulder to lean on. You were supposed to be the strong one. You were supposed to help me when I was weak, but you left me. You left, and I hate you for leaving me!" Despite the anger surging through me, I manage to keep my voice quiet. A loud sound fills the air. It sounds like something just fell in the sea. I jump to my feet and stare with wide eyes.
