Night seems genuinely quite afraid of what I might say. When I finally do reply, she seems relieved and then amused. Okay, I was stretching it a bit. There's no way I could get a peacekeeper to help. Mabye to look the other way for a few seconds but convince them to help? Well, I was just testing her or that's what I'll have to make her believe anyway. I don't want her to think that I actually meant it. I didn't, it was one of those things that you say that no one is expected to believe except idiots and desperate people. Night is obviously not one of those and, although I already had figured this out. I wanted to make sure. I could have endangered myself if she had have been. Desperate people tend not to think things through so carefully and nothing needs to be said for idiots.
Her soft laugh floats towards me. I know that she means me no offence by now. A few minutes earlier I might have become frosty at this but, it was the reply I wanted so I am content.
"No I was wrong. My ideas are not far fetched yours are." I laugh along with her and the melodies twine together and echo around the meadow. They bounce off the trees and flies around with the single bird that I saw, flitting away into the evening. The snow seems a little less chilly now and even warmer when I hear the rest of her reply." Peacekeepers won't help, but I do accept your help." Now I feel that she finally trusts me. It took a bit of work but I did it. Of course I had expected to. I almost never failed at this sort of thing but it was still a buzz. I smile again, this time it is warmer than the last one, and accept her offered hand. I like this girl, how untrusting she is, how she needs proof of everything. She would be perfect at this rebellion thing. No one would stuff up with her glaring over their shoulder. I decide to say a much, “You would be a great leader you know” It’s a small statement but it should set her glowing. Well it would do that to me so I hope it will do the same to Night.
