It doesn't matter to Jeran if he has to suffer a little bit to make sure of their safety, namely Charlie's. She's hurt and scared just as much as he is, only her foot is causing him act upon his courage to see that she's taken care of. His well being will have to wait until he knows that she is put up and well. That dedication to her is shown by giving her his back, to carry her to where they need to go. He could have just walked with her, but that would have proven difficult and he felt as though he was able to do this small amount of courtesy to his friend who risked her life for his. No matter what, he agreed to this mission and he wasn't about to give up on her. He wasn't ready to lose his best friend over such small obstacles that keep trying to tear them apart.
To Jeran, this obstacle course was his challenge. He kept that tightnit curl on his eyebrows with every step. Mud pushed it's way between his toes with every step. It a good change as the water falls and washes some of the mud off his face and his clothes but a chill starts to set in almost immediately with the wind that keeps blowing. Soon enough, his lower lips starts to quiver to the chill, but he maintains his pace up the hill, almost falling several times due to the instability of the ground below. He has to check on her though; asking if she's okay. Her replies are gentle on his ears since she's so close to him. Though, his replies don't give her any real form of reassurance. "good."
Only when he reaches their cave does he let Charlie get off of his back and into the safety of this dark, dry cave. That's when he remembered something that he was carrying in his bag; matches. He turns to meet with the opening of the cave when the thunder cracks out again, making the poor boy jump nearly out of his skin.
"Umm, Charlie... my bag is down in the hole. I need to get it, I think. I've got matches in it and stuff. Food. We still need food and stuff." His voice comes out with uncertainty as he realizes at that moment that she has taken a hold of his hand. He's unable to take a step outside of the cave to go find his bag. Besides, the rain has yet to let up, telling him that this night will definately seperate his thoughts for him into two catagories. 'Smart idea' and 'stupid idea' are what he's thinking because while Jeran only thought about his friend, these hindering consequences are starting to play with his head. A gentle tug downward is what sets his 'smart move' into motion, forgetting about getting his bag and he sits beside his friend. 'Relax', she tries to tell him.
"How can I relax at a time like this?" His breaths come out in a fast way. The boy could barely tell how much he had put himself through until now and he can feel his muscles screaming. His legs for one and then his arms makes him feel like they are made out of pure jelly. For amoment, he concetrates on that voice she just had given him. The way she had spoken to him to relax and he can sense that she's in pain. He doesn't have to see it. He's able to read into her voice and just sense her tense body without even touching her now.
"Charlie. Everything is going to be okay now." He tells her. His voice tries to be as confident as possible. In a matter of milliseconds, his arm wraps around her shoulder and pulls her into him. He feels like shielding her from the rest of the world. He feels like protecting her as though she were his sister, but it just doesn't seem that way anymore between him and her. She's got a part of his mind telling him that she isn't just his friend and she definately doesn't fit the catagory of a sister. As clueless as ever as to what happens next, his lips touch her cheek quickly. It's something that he's never done before. A flood of embarressment overcomes him, but he only lets that show in the form of turning his head away from her. He never takes his arm away from her, though. Instead, he brings his other arm to connect, encircling her in his grip.
"I like you, Charlie." Is all he has courage to say as the storm outside tosses the tree's about. This new sensation of kissing his friend on the cheek oddly has his body warming on the inside. The sudden embarrassment keeping him fully awake and out of pain, but he knows his friend is hurting. Plans start to form quickly thinking that in the morning, he might have to go get help if she's not any better.
