And we take off running, well slow running, through the rain. Every drop that hits my face brings a new hope to life. Just the other day it wasn't looking good about life. It was just yesterday that life was only passing by. People were dropping dead left and right because of the horrible drought that passed through the area. It'll take a long time for the drought to go away. The ground needs more than the soaking rain that's quenching it's thirst now. The mud continues running down my face giving me a brand new look for the first time in a long time. Jori, Bessy, and Oriana all run in sync with one another. It makes life easy.
Finally a barn is in front of us, it's not much, but it's something. A roof to give shelter to the animals. It's hard telling which animals will last the longest, but I know that Bessy will never leave my sight. I don't care if I have to give her some food that belongs to me. She deserves to live just like everyone else deserves to live, but the Capitol doesn't seem to think that. They laugh as they watch us fall victim to the weather, the games, illness, anything really, but the games are the one they want the most people to die in. Watching them step by step is hard because one day my name could be called and I'll enter the games. I don't think I'd ever return home alive either because killing isn't my forte.
"Well, this is our barn. It's small and kind of run down... but it does the job. That was my family out there we saw. Looks like they're enjoying the rain too."
This barn is about the size of the house my family lives in. It's perfect size for me, but it only leads me to wonder what it's like for these people living here. I watch silently as Bessy munches on some hay that's been placed before her. What she really needs, is a giant mud hole to roll around in. I'll find ya one girl, don't you worry. My eyes glance around the area smiling as the rain falls through the tiny cracks in the roof. Hope is something that I haven't had in a long time. The moment I stepped into the auction yesterday all hope was gone. When I returned home to all the animals slaughtered because my father was so hungry, everything was lost, but Nataliya got me out of there with Bessy, and now I'm here with Oriana, Jori, and Bessy. It's raining. A new life is being formed before my eyes.
"This is perfect."
My eyes dart around the barn in every direction taking in the new scenery.
"Everything is perfect."
