Somewhere far away a beeping noise disrupts the tiny bit of snoozing I was able to do while the small girl snuggled up under my blanket. She was probably just waiting it out wondering how long it would take for meto get her candy but for now that was good enough so I could snooze a little longer. At least it keeps the headache that's flaring up every time I lift my head at bay.
Vy's voice interrupts my slumber once again.
"Matthew, ,it's monday."
'What?'
I've completely lost track of time over this gruesome weekend because I was trying to blend out what happened as much as I could.
"Fuck!"
"The last buss leaves in an hour."
"Oh, fuck." I repeat my clever words and force my eyes open just to stare at the ceiling above me.
But now it's coming back to me full force.
The alceration with Mr. Ruze, the way Ky was laying there when they took her away and Brody warning me to stay away from her to protect us all. Incredibly hard when she was carrying my child.
"How can I stay away?" I mutter to her as if she knew what i was talking about. Maybe she does. She's been there when I broke down.
I avoid her gaze and try to get my own body into gear by sitting up and rubbing my sore face.
Accidentally I pull the blanket off Brooklyn who once again grins and says peekaboo.
"Yeah, peekaboo." I state with little enthusiams but her small face still makes me smile a little.
"Why do we even have to go back? Does it make sense at all? I should just stay here and let them kick me out."
Is that how it works? Would they kick me out if I fail to show up?
But what would O'Rourke do? What's happening with her father now? I know I have to go back so I drag myself to a stand and wait for the sickness to settle back into the pit of my stomach when my eyes fall on her knee brace.
"Oh no, that bad?"
From the first floor we can hear footstep, which must belong to her mother and before I can make a quick exit she's on her way down. Maybe she heard us talking.
