Roles would be completely reversed if I was getting Brody back into shape and helping him train.
"You, training me? There's a thought. I'll probably have to take you up on it."
"Do that. I could repay a favor for once."
I'm so deep in his debt that I can barely pay him back enough-not unless I caught a bullett for him, which I don't really intend. Training him would be good though, that much I can do.
The smirk widened into an impish grin.
"No kidney shots this time."
That makes me laugh rembering how angry he got. I've never seen my friend severly pissed off before that day.
"Yeah, no kidney shots. That was something else!"
Come to think about it: I'm surprised Brody doesn't feel the same way right now. I could understand if he was incredibly angry and upset because of what happened.
We go on to talk about my baby, which is a bit of a treat. Not many people know about my growing child and he is the one male friend I confided in.
"You're going to be a terror when she's old enough to start dating. Have you started planning the shovel talks yet? Dad has some good ones."
Although none of that has crossed my mind yet because I only found out that we're having a girl and she's not even born yet.
"I might hit Nolan up for that. If she's only half as beautiful as her mom I'm going out today to buy a baseball bat."
His statement confuses me a little because Brody is a guy and a tough one. I doubt he was one of those inferior little boys that even girls would boss around.
"Who did your dad give those talks to? Do you have a secret sister or are you a little sissy boy?" I cheekily grin at him.
"You picked a name yet?"
That one I'm actually proud off because we were prepared and had easily found a name we both liked. At least one thing we didn't fight about.
"Yeah, we're going to call her Mira. What's your second name, man?" I would like to name the little girl after her savior...Brody just doesn't seem like a good girls name.
I'm glad we've found a lighter topic but now we're both running out of words and I can clearly see the exhaustion on my former trainers pale features.
Thinking about what to say now without returning to darker subjects I ask. "Who's the guy who came in here with me?"
My head nods towards the door where he must be waiting.
"Maybe I should let him get his turn with you."
I get up and lean forward to ruffle the older guys hair.
"I'll be back in a few days. Check that you're being a good boy and don't cause any havoc here, Corporal."
