Miette Reno
Does she not know what chill means? I wonder if this girl has never been outside in her life. This must be some grand old adventure for her. I almost feel sorry that I couldn't give her more on this adventure than a riverbank and my house. Even though my house looks nice, it's awfully boring. It's why I go out into the streets so much. Nothing happens around here.
I hear the sound of running water from upstairs. It almost makes me want to take the bath for myself. Despite this huge house, only one bathroom has a super big tub. I can't take a bath in any other tub. I only deserve the big tub.
A few minutes pass, with just the crackling fireplace and the running water for noise. I sit in silence, not sure of anything to say. Is there anything else really to say? I know her name, I offered her food and a bath. Isn't that enough?
The maid comes scurrying down the stairs. "I-It's ready!" She informs me. I thank her, and dismiss her to the kitchen to start on Astrid's food. It takes me a few attempts, but I manage to pull myself into a sitting position. "Come on, I can show you upstairs," I tell my friend, rolling off the couch.
Up the stairs we go. It's quite some staircase, honestly. The steps are bigger toward the bottom, with an ornate red rug lining the whole way. I trace my fingers along the wooden railing as I lead Astrid upstairs. The bathroom door is the first door to the right, which the maid has graciously left open. I peer inside. The bath is bubbling with purple bubbles, and the scent of lavender is wafting into the hall. "Ok, this is your stop," I say, turning to Astrid.
"If you want clean clothes, I'm sure I can get you some. And uh." I find myself awkwardly rubbing my neck. "My room is two doors down from here. Come find me when you're done, yeah? Then we can eat."
