Snow and ice had turned district two into a winterwonderland. The trees stood tall against grey snowy skies.
While a cold wind chilled everybody tot he bone who had any outside jobs to do today.
In general I enjoyed winter with all the winter activities when I was younger but nowadays I don’t go bob sledding or skating anymore but work on my grand fathers old home to fix it up for myself and our baby. Time has become an issue because I want the place to be nice and warm when she arrives.
For weeks I fixed holes in the wall, sand old cracked wooden floors just to give them a new finish and I even replaced a few old pipes and had to fix up the walls again.
Today I have to fix the roof. Its holes are only covered with thick plastic and stones, so my first walk of the day was to my fathers company to borrow the truck and buy shingles.
Bundled up in a thick winter coat, hat and mitts I’m driving down the road to my grandpas place with a truckload of materials.
I haven’t even had breakfast yet when I start unloading the back of the truck to place the shingles near a ladder on the side of the house.
My project has eaten up a lot of my savings and my father had to lend my cash to keep going, which he is willing to do since he supports my project.
That there’s a strong wind blowing on the very day that I chose to fix the roof is unfortunate but I can’t help it now. It needs to be done because the weather forecast predicted warmer weather and when it starts raining I’ll have puddles inside the newly fixed baby room.
The thought of our little one, who will arrive in a few weeks keeps me going- with a smile on my face and a lot of anxiousness in the back of my mind. I think me and my strong girlfriend, Kyanite, will be able to handle it though.
Secretly I wish I had taken up some of my friends offer to help when it comes to carrying the shingles up the ladder though.
