Cecil, the Male stylist, fitted me and stripped me clean of all my 'blemishes' as he liked to call them. He began to take measurements of all the angles of my body and came back into the dressing room with what i thought was a dress but it was covered with some type of material.
Cecil unzipped the covering and told me to close my eyes. I did as i was told and felt material caress my body, hug my curves in all the right places. I reached my arms into the sleeves and opened my eyes. Looking down I see the olive green tone colored dress falling out into waves near my ankles. I was not allowed to look in the mirror yet.
Stepping into three inch heels wasn't that hard, it was walking in them. But after what felt like a thousand falls and stumbles i was able to walk straightly in them. Cecil wrapped my hair up into an elegant bun with a few pieces falling into my face.
He applied a light coating of make up to my face, underlining my eyes with a shimmering gold. He coated my lips with a moist and tangy liquid. He straightened my shoulders and shooed me out of the room and onto the Interview area.
It looked exactly as it did on the TV. I must have been so deep in thought that it was all too soon before Caesar Flickerman called my name.
"Nachele Hale, the Girl Tribute from District Eleven, come on up!" He said in a light cheery tone. I smile slightly, trying to perfect my looks to try and get a few sponsors while i am still alive, i wont know what to expect in that arena.
He began right to the questions, considering we all had a limited time to be interviewed. I had to pull this off. Be honest.
How confident do you feel about the games now that you've seen your training score(wait until you get your training score to answer this)?
"Ah, well I never really expected I would get an eight. I don't think I'll last as long as some others, but i think i will stick around for a while."
What has impressed you most about the capitol since you've been here?
"Hm, Caesar I think it has to be the smells. Everything smells so exotic, so intoxicating, so fresh, its overwhelmingly wonderful."
The crowd laughed as i said this. Caesar leans in closer to me and asks me what does he smell like to him and i say like apricots. They all thought it was a joke considering i am from the agricultural district, but my only smells were related to fruits. So what could i have said.
Do you have a special someone back home?
"Do you mean as in someone I like? No, my family means to much to me to even think about liking someone."
What do you like to do in your free time?
I puzzle over this one for a moment before coming to my answer.
"what free time?" i say, laughing slightly, "taking care of my three kids plus school and working over time. It doesn't take someone from District Ten to figure out there's no such thing in my life." I say, this time trying to make it relevant and draw in the audiance.
What is your family like?
"Well my family is only me and the kids. Connors 10, hes a handful sometimes but he is always loving. Then there's Bella, shes 4. She is probably the sassiest thing that has ever popped into this world. And then you have Nick- hes 3. Hes full of spunk and hes all boy. And there's also Drangs, she helps out with my family a lot. Shes my best friend. My family is the most important thing to me, its the only reason I said i would try and win."
Thinking about the kids almost makes me start to cry. How i know i will never see them again, yet the looks on their faces right now are probably so lit up to see me on TV. They think I'm going to come home- alive. How i wish that were true.
Do you miss anything in particular from back home?
"I miss- I miss my family. That's all i really had back in the district anyways. I sure don't miss school or work though!" i say, making my sentence seem light hearted.
What's something you'd like to say to your friends and family back home? How about your fellow tributes?
"well, i just wish you all a happy Hunger Games," I say into the camera facing me "And try not to knock me out first, I pack a punch." I say looking in the general area of my fellow tributes. There is one last thing i have to say before my time is up. I look right into the camera, "Guys, Mommy wants all of you to know how proud she is of you and how much i love you. You are all going to grow up to be wonderful carefree adults. But mom loves you so much, and don't you forget it." I say, blowing a kiss into the camera. Hopefully the kids saw that. That would be my last 'direct' contact i have with them. When i blew the kiss, the timer rang, signaling the end of my interview.
"Thank you Caesar Flickerman, you know your even better in person."
I curtsied for Caesar and the audience and they applauded me as i returned to my seat. Someone even threw out a flower to me. I caught it effortlessly and smiled in the general direction.
