<>Charlie Opasion<>
the boy with the heart of fire
For some reason Charlie couldn't explain he liked it when Thomas got nervous or afraid like he always seemed to do. No it wasn't because he enjoyed seeing him in total panic or fear but because Charlie felt like he could protect him from whatever it was that scared him. Charlie couldn't help but feel that for most of Thomas' life he has been afraid of so many things, but he wanted to change that for him. He wanted Thomas to be able to wake up every day and just be happy to go to school and to enjoy all the things he does. It was like a sort of goal Charlie was determined to make happen for his new friend. However why didn't Thomas just feel like a friend to him? Why did he always seem to have the capability to make butterflies dance and swirl in swarms all over Charlie's body? However did it really matter? Thomas was special and all Charlie wanted was for him to notice that as well, so that he could see him how he did, a sort of star. Small and not very bright yet but with the power to be brighter than anyone else.
With a grin Charlie pulls his attention back to Thomas' words as he talks about the nickname Char. As usual Thomas wanders on in his conversation as he chooses to explain why exactly he thought the name stood for something else. Charlie figured most people would find that quality rather annoying and irritating even, but he found it kind of cute. Charlie knew it was a weird word for him to use about another boy but he couldn't figure out quite another way to describe it. Sort of like the flurries of emotion that seemed to be in complete control of his body lately.
In fact, as Charlie sat there in the cool night's breeze he could feel his heart thundering tremendously like a dozen fire crackers exploding at once every single second. Charlie couldn't figure out where all these nerves came from whenever Thomas was in his presence. Or even more specifically when Charlie touched Thomas. Charlie had touched plenty of his friends in the gang before but none of them made him feel the way he felt when he felt Thomas' warmth against his own. Charlie felt as though their two entities were combing as they sat gently pressed against each other with the stars illuminating their faces. It was the most bizarre feeling Charlie had ever endured but it was by far the most amazing. A feeling Charlie actually never wanted to stop. A feeling that made him truly feel happy again.
A thought rolled across Charlie's face as smile peaked against the corner of his rugged cheeks. "You know Thomas, you don't have a nickname do you?" Surely enough Thomas confirmed Charlie's thoughts as various names surged through his mind as fast as people on a subway train. There was Little T, Tom, The Tomster, TE for Thomas Estrada, but above all one stood out to Charlie as he jokingly poked Thomas' side with his free hand's finger. "Tommy. I think I am going to start calling you Tommy." Without waiting to see how Tommy took his new name Charlie looked out at the raging fire again.
Charlie could feel his soul dancing with the same out of order beats that the rolling waves of flame created against the dark night sky. He could feel his body and his emotions swaying like the rolling pillars of smoke bellowed against the dark canvas whenever a gentle wind licked against their sides. His smile matched the bright intensity created by pure light being cast out over the whole area like a beacon for all the district to see as far as the fences reached. In essence Charlie was his own flame that seemed to be even more active and alive whenever Tommy was within. It was like Tommy was the heart of his fire.
However the sudden clutching of Tommy's hands against Charlie's arm drew his attention to the floors below them as Tommy swore he saw flames as well. Yet Charlies let out a laugh as he spotted the colored flashlights dancing through the dark by their owners. With a raised eye brow he grinned while looking straight at Tommy, "I hate to break it to you but those would be flash lights not fire. Even though I would have quite enjoyed saving you from the temperamental flames of a real burning building." With a thought Charlie leaned in only an inch away from Tommy's lips and inhaled softly before slowly backing up again. "However guessing from that breath of your's the alcohol was probably what made you see flames from those harmless toys."
Another thought crossed Charlie's thoughts as he pulled himself up from the ledge and assisted the drunken Tommy up as well. Before Tommy even asked the question Charlie answered him, "There is only one thing that makes being drunk even more fun. Dancing." Without waiting for Tommy's surely terrified reaction and his reluctant rambling Charlie grabbed both of his hands and led him slowly back down the building and into the very thick of the party before finally turning back to face him. "Okay Tommy, show me what moves you have."
