Bella thought.
That was probably why she fell the way that she did.
The snow felt crisp in her hair, and she tried to move slowly.
She wanted to cry, but she wouldn’t. Why? Because that would have brought unnecessary attention to herself. Instead, she took a second to regain her composer as she thought about what the people at home must be thinking.
Sure, this was something that she hadn’t seen in the games for a long time, but it was enough to send red flags shooting across the sky of her mind.
She knew there had to be a twist.
When they did something like this in the 76th, one of the items was booby trapped, and Bella watched in horror as the boy from 3 had grabbed the jar of tar that would have triggered it.
However, when she saw that nothing happened, she took a deep breath, realizing that nothing came of whatever the capitol was planning.
And of course, she wanted to think that this was something of the same nature, however, she didn’t trust it.
She wasn’t going to trust it.
That was her resolve.
So she watched as people that she knew flew down that hill in grace and dignity. However, she and Dymas both fell so early that she couldn’t believe just how hard it was to ski.
The girl who could conquer everything had finally met something that she couldn’t.
However, Bella was about making things work, and just because she had blue skin now, didn’t mean that she wouldn’t be able to make skiing work either.
Watching Euley fall before her made it a little easier. However, she wasn’t bracing herself for her sudden impact either. She thought that she was going to soar over everyone and take the lead that was clearly so far away from her right now.
”Obviously not.” Her laugh echoed off the pure white set piece, but she was enjoying herself. It was funny to think that the capitol could find a way to make people, who were fighting for their lives, remember the little things. That they were still just children at the end of the day.
It was a haunting thought that sent chill’s down Bella’s spine, and for once, it felt colder then the very arena they stood in.
However, she felt warm. Warm because she had people like Dymas and Euley to lean on. Of course, she knew better. She knew that when the time came to it, she would have to fight them in a truly climatic way that would probably crush the hearts of the people that were fighting at home.
Bella thought about how people were obviously thinking about how Euley and her or even Dymas and her were “destined to be” or whatever shit they force fed them in the capitol review of the games. However, they didn’t know the real story.
They never would because none of them were ever going to be there to see it.
Cause Ripred forbid someone from the capitol walk a day in a pair of dirty district shoes.
And while Bella could admit that she felt something there, between Euley and her, she knew that one, she would never have the courage to say something, and two, that at the end of the day, Euley still outmatched her in every single way, and Bella was someone who would be in her way.
It was probably the one thing that helped her sleep at night.
And then there was Dymas, a sweet boy with a heart of gold that no one seemed to understand. His past was an admirable one, but one that Bella couldn’t relate too. She was not a boy who had two loving parents who he could go home too if he won the games. No.
She was the lonely girl who had one person waiting for her at home that mattered. While she loved the other kids back at the pound, her sister was her number one priority.
And she hoped that she wasn’t watching this right now.
But each time she did hope that Marley was living her life instead of obsessing that Bella was okay, she knew that Rogue was probably making her watch even if she didn’t want too.
And Bella knew that if she returned home, she would show Rogue the horrors she lived here in the arena.
And she would do it with a smile on her face.
Because that is what she probably did to Marley, and Bella was all about vindicating justice.
And then Dymas opened his mouth while trying to help her up. She had to admit that he had a point. They both did have people the needed to get home too.
He had his Angel, and she had Marley.
And while they were both confident upfront that they could survive the onslaught of people, who all seemed like they were out for blood now, Bella knew that she would have to pray hard in order to even have an inkling of a chance to go home.
However, she wasn’t the type to give up hope.
”Right. Lets go.”
Bella smiled as she watched Dymas take off again, only to fall flat on his face again. ”Shouldn’t you be good at this? Isnt this similar to like, surfing or whatever the hell you do in four?” She couldn’t help but laugh again, this time, she had to resist holding her stomach because she knew that she would have fallen over herself.
Moments later, she watched Euley glide down a little, ”Youre doing amazing.” She said as she watched her pass her in a flash of grey hair. However, not too far after, she watched her attack the same girl that she attacked back in the blood bath.
That was what Bella realized that there was a lot of fighting going on, the hill.
She looked at everyone, and wished they could have kept it somewhat light hearted, but this was a game of cat and mouse they were all playing, and whether they all liked it or not, they were all the mice, trying to fight their way out of a maze that only one of them could escape.
However, Bella kept skiing on.
Business as usual unless someone got in her way.
