The redwood spear slashes through the denim and into the kevlar underlay, but makes it no further. The bottom of the battle jacket is frayed from all the hits taken there — this one from Quest intersecting the small slice put there by Parson, both mirrored on the small of her back by the tear from Birdboy's javelin just yesterday. Collecting these cuts on her armor is clearly better than the alternative — that's what armor's for, after all — but Lexandriy should probably learn to guard her midsection before too long, otherwise she'll end up notched like she's being fitted for a cross lap joint.
A canon fires, but Quest remains on her feet. The two kids — yes, still kids — have run Birdboy down at last. Better make this quick. Soon enough they'll be looking for someone else to turn their attention and their blades towards. Lex would be. And it'll just be her and Denali in a moment.
It's in Quest's face: the end. They lock eyes in understanding — Lex Lionel owes the other girl nothing, but extends her the courtesy anyway. The solemnity of the moment is not lost on either of them. Quest doesn't quip. Lex doesn't laugh. Her father raised an honorable murderer, after all.
