Being alone at night is difficult. Every little sound echoes through the air leaving every single hair standing on end. Chills run up and down her spine as her eyes dart back and forth in every direction trying to keep herself focused. Even back home, Asari always had someone with her, but here it's different. She expects the differences because this isn't home. This is a game she's been chosen for.
A heavy sigh leaves her chest as she draws her knees closer to her. No matter what all she has is herself. Sure, the young girl from twelve became a friend, but in this moment, none of that matters.
The anthem comes and goes, and all of them are still alive. Part of her feels relief, yet she's unsure how to truly feel. A full day has gone by, and all that anyone can say is the bloodbath wasn't bloody.
At least the girl with the broken leg is okay.
A soft grin slowly spreads from ear to ear. It's a wonderful feeling knowing that she's somehow made it through the night, but what if she's lingering around in the distance waiting for a chance to strike? Asari is the prey, and the other tributes have become the predator. Maybe in the shoes of the others the roles are reversed, but that's simply how she feels.
This looks and feels like home, but home is so far away.
The morning comes, and for a moment, she feels as though it's all a dream. How could anyone have survived the night alone without someone to help them when they're in need? Not that it matters. Asari has proven time and time again that she's perfectly capable of smashing impressions people have of her. Sure she's just a frail girl from eleven, but look at what she's done.
The breeze feels nice compared to the wind the day before. The harvest is ready, and all she wants is to take place in the annual moment before starting it all again.
Standing is hard, but being used to these moments makes life a little easier. Going without food and water isn't as difficult as it may seem, but her tongue begs to differ. All the running from the day before has taken a toll.
Within moments the scenery is changing. Home is going away, and her eyes rest on a silent town. Part of her wants to explore, yet she knows exploring can almost certainly end bad. This can offer a safe haven for another day. It can give her a chance to truly rethink everything and figure out a plan because right now she isn't sure where to go from here.
Those plans are quickly put on hold.
Her grip on the pitchfork tightens as she stares at the career of a man standing just a few feet away. He could've killed her while she wasn't looking, yet he's just standing there. A lump forms in the back of her throat. Every hair stands tall. Fighting him is almost certainly a death sentence. He's more prepared. More capable of winning, but something even worse comes from behind.
Wide eyes look through the district two male glaring at what's coming their way. A shaky chin drops to the ground.
With the pitchfork in place, Asari moves forward. Ubbe isn't looking. His back is turned. He has no idea what's even coming - or does he? Did he bring them to her so they could snack on her dead body? She doesn't know, but she knows she needs to move fast.
"Look out!"
Hopefully those words aren't her last.
