For a moment he thought he would miss. Then he saw the opening and twisted toward to it. The blade plunged into the girl's chest, coating the blade in a fresh layer of crimson over burgundy. This time she makes no sound, just raises her own weapon once again and takes a big swing.
The the crack and pain in his leg was familiar. Flashbacks of Milo's face and being half-carried out of the bloodbath come back to him. He knew without looking that his shin was once again broken. An involuntary growl came low in his throat. Once more, the boy - like a shadowy bodyguard - comes forward to take advantage of his momentary off-balance. "Well I only need 2 minutes to end this." The slice to his right leg isn't severe, but it still hurts. There is no way he can fend off this double attack forever. He would just have to hope that he would either be able to kill one of them or one of his allies could come to his aid.
A grunt of pain from over his shoulder told him that they were still fighting. He could hear Bell yelling to the boy who stood before him. "Only two minutes Reyes? That's so boring, don't you want a little fun in your life?" Bell seemingly knew the boy - Reyes - or at least knew his name. He wondered if they had spent any time interacting, or maybe they had fought before. Either way, it didn't matter now. If his two adversaries had their way he wouldn't need to worry about names anymore.
This time the only sound of breaking bone had come from his own leg and not the body of one of his allies. He hoped that meant they were still alive, still breathing and fighting. There was no point in hoping they were okay, because none of them were "okay" anymore. He wasn't, for sure. With the apron he acquired sitting in shredded tatters over his bloodied chest and his leg broken for the second time, he was far from it.
I just have to keep them off Bell and Efram.
He had managed that much so far, it was just a matter of if he could hold on a little longer. Reyes had threatened him with a two minute time limit. He would have to make do with that, and hope that was enough time for Bell and Efram to finish dealing with the other girl and run. They would leave him here, they must, for he was only going to slow them down. A bum leg and bleeding heavily - it was a wonder he still had the strength to stand.
He had the strength, though, and as he had learned against Fangor he also had the will to live. He couldn't simply give up now. Not now, not yet. He would keep swinging until the breath left his body - it was all he could do.
