With a slower pace behind my group, I watched as River had taken her district mate and helped him along. I watched the redness seep through his clothing, the crimson tide against his ear flowing like a river without a damn. I can only imagine the amount of pain he's in and it makes me wonder to Avonlea in her games. When she had fallen, they had taken her apart without a care in the world. Killed her and then left her to suffer alone. It must have been hard being only the second round of tributes in the games world, the ones that started it all and broke the hearts of everyone.

Xavier was so close to death but somehow when the district seven girl fell, it scared the others. It made the others retreat. A feat that could only show that our group was to be the dominate quartet.

Before we found a resting point, I heard a noise and followed it instinctively to a small clearing but the sight that I happened upon was of a magical state. A monkey in a green dress and hat was making motions for a group of frogs before it took off in fear of my presence but the frogs croaked no more when I glared at them. Instead, a single croak left the middle ones throat before they disappeared off into the mud. Curiosity befell upon me and as the rest of my alliance kept going forward, I retrieved from my bag a few healing things and began to wrap my arm and tend to the bleeding cuts.

Not long after, I caught up to the other three but Xavier seemed to fumble with his bag. "Hey - good job not dying out there. Hanging on by a thread are ya." I glanced to his bag and questioned it. "Need help with the needle and thread? I don't get a sour stomach to blood." And I don't. Though, my thoughts are invaded by the nasty moment remembering the girl that had jumped on my back had vomited moments before becoming my ride fair. A shiver of disgust overcomes me and I sit across from Xavier.

"Next time - go for the head, not the limb. Got it? Spare them and they'll come back like karma, Professor X."

The image of the lifeless body laying on the ground abandoned by her 'friends' engulfs my mind the entire time we run away. How could they just leave her like that? Weren't they supposed to be friends? Or allies? Is that going to happen to me when I die? Left alone by myself in my dying breaths? I won't be surprised, but damn. I shouldn't have called them dicks, but who leaves someone like that? I look at my allies. They don't seem to be jerks, but I don't know. Everybody kind to me always had something they wanted out of me...

When we stop, another small box thing floats down in front of me, like the day before. Huh, I guess I've been doing something right for once. That, or I'm just that pitiful. Out of habit, I reach out with both hands to grab it before I remember that one of my arms happened to be bleeding profusely from the elbow. Grabbing it with my only hand, I fumble around with it until it pops open. The contents look like some pills and some medical stuff.. Yep, someone felt bad. Why couldn't the capitolites watch me back in 9? These would have been useful then...

I must have been struggling to put them away because somebody came up and said something. Looking up, I see Amberly looking at me. I smile at her, hoping that she didn't ask me a question. "Need help with the needle and thread? I don't get a sour stomach to blood." I shift my vision to my arm. I mean... it would be useful to have two hands to stitch myself back up... "Sure! I'd take some help!"

She sits down in front of me, talking about how I should have aimed for the head, but I didn't want to say that I wasn't planning on killing anyone here. I'm almost certain that I'm not going to win. Statistically, it shouldn't happen. It's only a matter of time before my ultimate death. Honestly, I wish it was me who had died in the fight earlier today. Deep down, I know I was another swing from seeing the great beyond, but someone beat me to it. I should be grateful, but I know I'll feel bad for having the other girl die in my place instead. She didn't die for you. She died fighting for her allies. Stop being so selfish. Also, be grateful you're alive. Stop being a prick. "Thanks, by the way. I'll always need a hand." I add a smile after my poor joke. Could do better, but oh well.

Self first. Other's last.

It's a mantra that I find myself repeating as I sit in front of the bleeding ally. Of course I wrapped my own wounds first, braided twine through my skin and put it back together in efforts to make sure that the wounds won't leave too much of a scar. If I ever returned home, I don't think I'll want a reminder of this place. If I were to somehow make it through the next twenty tributes, I'm not sure what horrors I'll have seen and the less physical marks the better. Though, Xaviers wounds would definitely leave a mark. Missing an ear and a limb can hardly be overlooked so when I offered my assistance to his ailing body, he agreed.

And though he was near death, his voice held so much optimism. I raised an eyebrow at him.
He'd gotten another sponsorship moments before I graced him because I had seen his struggles. Saw the way he could barely sit up right and when silence fell upon my lips, I set to work grabbing his things and releasing the bandages of their binding and grabbing the needle and threads. I thread the needle without a problem and as I go to start stitching up his arm, what's left of it, his words stop me.

"Thanks, by the way. I'll always need a hand." I chuckle for good measure. A moment of a joke I'm not sure he understood what he just said and laughter seeped through the darkest moment of our lives so far.

"Well, I mean - given the fact of what I'm doing. I guess you do need a hand." And my smile disappears as I hesitate. "Look away, Xavier."

I start sewing his stump together, my fingers now stained with his blood and my heart rate increases with each stitch. I keep an eye on his sutures but glance at his face every few stitches as well. If I were him, I'd have passed out by now, but like in the battle, he's stronger than I expected. He came off as such a damn weakling and scared and hesitant.

"You lied to us all. You ain't some coward - always watch the quiet ones. They are the ones that surprise ya when you least expect it." It's more of a statement, words upon the wind between us as I break the line, pleased with the stitches on his arm and grab for the bandages to wrap his arm. Maybe if I survive this, I'll go into the medical field back home.
