We'd walked until we couldn't anymore. Sometime before the night fell on us in this arena of sorts, I had made out a simple letter, tied it to Bubba and sent it on it's way. Though, Skittles were harder to maintain. It refused to go in the bag, but he wasn't meant to be bagged or used for whatever purposes it was intended. He became my conversationalist. His honks kept me entertained, so I either kept further ahead of the group or behind them like normal. Conversing between us had lessened. The tension was high I could tell with two of my allies, but River is the one I didn't understand at all.

She had gravitated toward me in efforts to bond, somehow. I allowed it, letting her join in and she got bored more quickly then I until it was the simple offer of food and the word became mine.

Perched on my shoulder, it flapped its wings until the bedroll had been laid out and we settled to sleep.

Though, who can sleep with the sweat that drenches the very ground in which we lay? The rolling of sweat down our faces, collecting down our backs and making our skin forever moist kept me awake.

"It's too damn hot for this shit." I find myself complaining for all the right reasons. Soon enough, just as my eyes became heavy for the first time and sleep decided to invade my waking consciousness, the light interrupted the thought processes it needed to send me over the edge. I grumbled and rolled over, comfortable for once to have laid on something soft, but it's surface was a waterbed of sweat. So much for wrapping it back up.

"Guys - do you realize where we are?" I kicked River's side and pointed to the pineapples that graced our viewing area. It was like nothing we'd ever seen and at night, we had no idea this is where we'd end up going. Amazement fell upon my mood. I've never had a pineapple, but this made it even more real.

"I can die happy if I can just taste one of them."

It was a simple statement when my attention was drawn to the right. In the distance a group of people came our way. At first, it was only two shadows and I could have sworn that the two remaining allies of the ones we'd off'd already were following us but just like mitosis, one of them split into two and suddenly I knew that it wasn't the same group at all. A new bunch of bodies that somehow found their way into our pineapple haven.

I've always been one to protect my own, and they were not welcomed here in the least. None of them - except... as I got closer, he came into view. I made a pass to Sarina and my voice caught but I could only mutter out a fearful response.

"No."

I had a pact with myself. No one was more important than my own well being, but as I kept my attention to Sarina gauging her reaction, I knew that today would end up going in the wrong direction. The only question remained, would Sarina find herself protecting him, or turning a blind eye? If I were in the same situation, I would turn a blind eye, though their relationship between each other was completely opposite of my own family relations. A tug of guilt somehow pulled the weapon from my bag and I glowered at him.

"Alfonso - you better not stick around if I were you." It was a fair warning and even though I drew my weapon up and ran in his direction, I passed him up aiming for the one behind him. I don't know who they were, but they had no history with me, so guilt wouldn't become my ally today.

More faces appeared in the sky that night, including the one of the girl that Xavier had killed. I wanted my turn to kill, but it hadn't come yet. I was getting tired of waiting, but I knew that I couldn't just kill my allies in their sleep. No, and there were a few reasons why, too.

Reason number one, I couldn't take on all three of them at once, no matter how strong I liked to believe that I was. Reason number two, it wouldn't be nearly as fun as killing another tribute in front of them to show off a bit, so that they knew what I was capable of without having to demonstrate on them. Reason number three, I actually did care about them, at least a little bit, no matter how jealous I was that some of them had gotten kills before I was given the chance. That meant that killing them wasn't an option.

There were very few people in my life that I'd ever actually liked, and I wasn't going to get rid of the ones who were on that list. That just wasn't the smart thing to do right now. Sure, I didn't plan on surviving this arena, but I still wasn't ready to die yet, either, so I still needed some people in this arena who weren't just going to kill me in the blink of an eye. As of the moment, I was pretty sure they all trusted me, at least a little bit, even if they didn't exactly like me.

Angevin's excitement over having arrived in a part of the arena full of tropical fruit was quickly interrupted by the presence of other tributes. This time, however, it wasn't the same group we'd encountered on our two most recent days in the arena. Apparently, day four decided to change things up and give us a new batch of tributes to fight and kill.

Angevin said something to a boy she called Alfonso before striking out at one of Alfonso's allies. I knew the boy's name sounded familiar but I couldn't quite place it. Why did his name seem important? I couldn't figure it out. It didn't matter, though. He wasn't myself or one of my allies, so that meant that right now, he wasn't important. That's why my axe was now swinging in his direction.

Then I remembered.

Alfonso Izar. It was Sarina's brother.

Oh well, there was no turning back now.

You spent the night treating to your wounds, which wasn’t too many on the account that you had found a way to dodge or endure most of the attacks from the mutts that were trying to claim your life. You hated the thought, them killing you before you even got a chance to protect yourself. That thought made your stomach due a somersault, before calming down at the sight of Eloise and Wally come into your peripheral. You aren’t even sure how you all have made it this far. But you do know that you guys are here, surviving, and you wished Abs was here.

But he wasn’t.

That stung more than the teeth of whatever bit into you.

But you didn’t question it. There was no point? He was not here anymore, as it was proven the night before with his face appearing in the sky. You longed for him to grab ahold of your waste, pull you close and tell you that everything was going to be alright, but instead you sat against a tree for most of the night because you felt uncomfortable. Whatever ravaged you the day before was beginning to work its way through your system again. An unfair ploy played again on you, as you tried your hardest to not fall for it again.

You had been so close.

But you didn’t prevail. You would not be the superhero of your story, instead, you would be the villain that would die a slow death at the hands of the hero, who really was a villain but if you ever dared to call them out on that, you would be met with a certain amount of pain and disdain.

It kept your mouth shut alright.

Bile drips down your throat as you swallow every little piece of vomit that comes back up. Whatever was ravaging your body this time around felt even more fatal. Toxic to a point of absolute discomfort. You wanted to scream, but there was nothing intense about this pain. A discomfort was like the time Manuela pulled you around the house by your hair because you spread a lie about Sarina and she wanted you to apologize. It was unnecessary to complain, because she did not mean harm by it, but indivertibly, she did. But maybe you did deserve that pain, just like now. Maybe you did deserve to die.

Maybe you deserved to live.

It got to the point where you had to do something. ”Keep me distracted guys. Anything really.” You said as you realized that Eloise and Wally had been talking. You wanted to speak more, but doing something would have been different. Something to take your mind off of whatever you were fixated on. A chance to be a child instead of a tribute.

You would kill for that.

But that time passed, and the Anthem came even quicker. Before you knew it, you were staring at the sky, with the girl from six appearing and the boy from twelve. You weren’t expecting to see either, seeing as you were traveling with ones district partner, and remembering Juliet’s face and the number twelve were synonymous.

You just hoped you would see hers either.

And you didn’t, and you didn’t see Sarina’s which made you feel just a little bit easier. They were both still alive, which mildly helped you fall asleep. It wasn’t for long though, because who in the hell could actually sleep here? You knew who. Gabriel could. He never batted an eyelash at danger, while you and Sarina had always been the more reserved types. You always said it was because you preferred to just experience things as they came, and to be quite frank, you had been sick of that already. When would the day come where you would do so much more hear. Protect your allies, kill all the mutts, go home and win?

You tried to answer them, but those wouldn’t come, and by choice.

Morning came, and you were the first to rise, mostly because you couldn’t sleep. You were tired, but you had to push through, there was ground you needed to make up unless you wanted to be hunted by another group of tributes.

Maybe you would welcome the pain they would bring. However, Eloise and Wally had been close behind you. Wally actually attaching himself to your back made it easier, you carried him with a little resistence, simply because you were uncomfortable, but the moment you started walking, you pushed through, because at the end of the day, Wally needed to know what it meant to be a child.

A fog came down and covered the terrain, and before they all knew it, the area grew an odd yellowish brown shape. You were confused on what was going on, but you had always learned to just go with it. Either it was a games ploy, or you were just lost.

Right up until you realized that you weren’t.

Amberly had breezed right past you as she spoke something about turning back. She didn’t even try to start with anything formal. It was a shame. ”I think we both know that isn’t going to happen Amberly.” Alfonso seemed exasperated, before realizing what he had said. ”Amberly? Wait… Sarina?” You said, in amazement. You didn’t know how to react if you were being honest. ”Its good to see you.” you offered her a small smile before realizing that this was not a reunion. This was a warzone. You peer forward, before one of the girls in their group swings down their axe right on your hip. You can feel the blade lightly graze you, a small wound cutting open.

That’s when you noticed the boy with a nine. ”Fine. I can play this game too.” You pull out your sword and charge.

You would hopefully show them how well you could play that game too.

Although she had remained mostly unscathed over the past few days, it was like someone had taken a knife and severed the link between her brain and her mouth, the one that would allow her to release all the thoughts swimming around in her head. It was like every hour she was experiencing a different emotion - guilt, fear, fury, resignation - she could barely keep her own narrative straight, let alone what was happening around her. She would certainly be much less exhausted if she could just talk about how she felt, but her allies didn't seem particularly safe to share things with. Sure, they probably weren't going to kill her - barring River, of course, who seemed to be inching closer to destruction on a daily basis - but it wasn't enough to not be in physical danger. Amberly wasn't very frightening, especially not with that bird following her around, but she seemed wholly convinced that Sarina was skilled and indefatigable in a manner that she wasn't sure she could go on faking. Xavier seemed like the more sympathetic type, but he also seemed to keep to himself. So, Sarina supposed, she would do the same. She followed behind her allies as they trekked through the jungle for the fourth day, letting any observations and comments that entered her head to flutter away as easily as they came. There's no need to say anything right now.

Bright yellow accosted her eyes before she even processed its source, and for a second she wondered if she had walked into the sun. Then a tangy scent became apparent, and it was clear that they were standing in an area full of fruit. Amberly was ecstatic.

"Guys, do you realize where we are?" Her excitement was evident and Sarina wished she felt nearly as good. "I can die happy if I can taste just one of them."

Sarina swiveled her head around as she stepped further into the hectare, squashing her desire to eat the pineapples by reminding herself that they could probably kill her just like everything else in this arena. She noticed movement in the corner of her eye, but dismissed it as she stepped closer to one of the prickly plants. Then, she heard Amberly again, but less enthused. "No."

She turned, her heart pounding at the thought of encountering the alliance from the previous two days, or worse, a mutt, but her eyes landed on Alfonso instead. A surprised smile made its way onto her face.

"Alfonso, you better not stick around if I were you," Amberly warned, readying her hammer. For a moment, she wondered if the girl from Ten would attack, and she instinctively tightened her grip on her machete, although she hadn't the slightest clue of who she would swing it at.

"I think we both know that isn't going to happen, Amberly," Alfonso retorted. And that was when he saw her. He said something, and she responded in a daze, unsure of what she had said or what would happen next. All she knew was that River was beginning to swing her axe. All she could squeak was, "River, don't-", before the blade cut into her brother's hip. Then he struck out at Xavier, and it was clear that she'd need to do something in order for both of them to leave alive.

She stumbled forward in her dumbfounded state to face the tribute from Eight, Bill's district partner. Bill. Would she even encounter him again? Sarina knew coming into the arena that she wouldn't be around the others for long, but now the reality was glinting in the sun as it aimed to kill.

"Please don't take this personally," she said, thrusting her machete forward.

It is almost instant, his transition from closing his eyes and landing straight into a coma of slumber. There is no waking him up from this hibernation, not for a long time anyway. Dreams don’t take hold of his mind; exhaustion has battered away any visuals to take him on a journey through his sleep. It is such a simple desire, to finally rest and he thanks whoever has granted him it. He thanks whoever is guiding his sword as it is clear it is not him who is painting its blade red. There is no way a stick thin boy like Wally is capable of slaying three consecutive beasts. It must be something else…

There are a few infuriating moments where his mind wakes up, but his body does not follow. His eyes see nothing but every other sense is aware of the world of the jungle that hopefully still surrounds him. It is a battle against lucidity to shake every limb and inch of his body awake. Another oversized crocodile could be lurking…

”Ahh!”

Wally’s upper body jolts up, finally his vision is restored, and the sight of his allies is the first thing he sees and…another beast dead on the floor? ”I…I..did I miss that one?” He asks as he rests his right arm on the ground to support his aching bones. ”I am so sorry…I was just so tired.” The lack of extra wounds and missing limbs is enough to assure that his presence in taking down the stray foe was surely not missed. ”I am glad you are both okay at least.”

Silence takes hold of them all again, Wally has not questioned the lack of verbal communication from Eloise. Maybe they can’t. Maybe they don’t want too. It is not his doing to question it. And Alfonso. Ever since Abs…the mourning has been clear. Really out of the four of them, Wally really believed the bunny boy would at least be the last one standing. How has a broken little Blake outlived such a beast of a teenager?

Wally wraps his left arm in a sling, there is really no reason not to put it in a support as any movement sends enough agony across his veins that he would rather fall back into that undisturbed nap. He uses the sketchy needle and thread to seal up the wound on his chest, patching it up with a plant poultice to soak away any infection and using what is left of his bandages to protect it even further.

”Keep me distracted guys. Anything really.”

Wally just looks around after Alfonso begs for distraction, they are all a little out of shape right now for a little game. Tales of his life back home really are not something to lift their spirits…”Do you want to hear about the weird book that someone gave me before getting on the train?” Wally plucks the thick literature from his satchel, not waiting for any of them to accept his entertainment. ”It is strange, it’s called A Bells Messier. It is set a long time ago in another world called Nacref.” He flicks through the already read pages, trying to identify some interesting points. ”The main character is called Twofoursixzeroone, there is an Inspector after him as he is a runaway criminal. Stole some bread or something…”

He just gets lost in the little presentation, regretting the day lost of not catching up on the chapters he needs to finish, he has not even got to the pinnacle point yet. ”Well Twofoursixzeroone has ended up taking care of an orphan girl called Casette who has made him kind. Casette lost her mother Fanti, after she sold her soul to the devil…”

If only Cassidy was much like this Twofoursixzeroone. Little Casetta has been blessed with a beautiful home in the centre of the big city, new clothes, food on her plate. Wally got a few oversized rags, and the blessing of stale bread and meat well past its use by date. Who is this anonymous benefactor who has blessed him with the tale to take on his journey to the arena ”I think there is going to be a rebellion though, much like ours as the people don’t like authority…but I have not gotten to that part yet.” When is the rebellion going to happen in his life?

Despite the earlier nap, Wally is the last to wake up in the morning. He even misses the anthem, not that he has any link to anyone in the arena but his allies and maybe his district partner. Hopefully she will be enough to represent District Six for poor old Teddy Ursa.

He continuously declines Alfonso’s offer of hitching a ride on his back, but he finally takes defeat and takes up on the offer. The piggyback relieves the madness of agony that captures every inch of him but it is clear there is something wrong with Alfonso…

Time flies when he does not have to walk, the landscape moulds into another fantasy. The air is sweet, an aroma that lures his stomach to a taste that is foreign to his tongue. There is a sense of fruit, fruit the only thing he has come close is a rotten apple and the sip of wine from one of Cassidy’s workers glasses. ”We should definitely pick some of those.”

Before any scavenging can commence, they are not met by the usual mutated beast; except the battered faces of tributes and they do not hesitate to swing their weapons at his allies. Wally slips from Alfonso’s back, just in time before the ravenous girl strikes her axe at Alfonso’s leg. It is clear who they have met, of course he forgot Alfonso has family in the arena. ”Why are you letting your allies hit your brother? I am pretty sure your family has suffered enough loss in these damned arenas…” Wally follow’s the older boy’s lead, swinging his sword at its next prey.

My body jolts up from an unexpected nights sleep to the sun on my face. Two for four isn't terrible, considering everything that isn't right. I wonder how long I'll keep this lucky streak up. Instinctively, I go to pack my stuff up, but it's already packed from the night before. Guess I don't have anything else to do but wait

Zoning off into space as I wait for everyone to get ready, Amberly's voice is the first thing I hear over my heartbeat. "Guys - do you realize where we are?" Yeah, we're in the fucking arena still. That hasn't changed from before and probably won't change for a while. That was rude. Stop being a dick. She's been a good help. Don't ruin it.

She goes on about how she wanted to taste them. Taste? What? Looking down, short plants with ugly flowers in rows run down to infinity in all directions. Those things are edible? Those hard exteriors... I don't know. I glance at my ally. If she wants to eat it... I don't know. What she likes and wants isn't what I like and want... Stop worrying about it and stop being so judgemental.

Looking at the weird plants, more words fly followed by weapons. I take a deep breath as my body gets heavy. Why? The urge to cry creeps up. Please not again.I draw my sword as My allies attacked their victims. Another fight started by us...We could have run away to keep an innocent soul alive for another day, but no. Every threat we see we have to kill. Someone strikes my hip, barely making a scratch. I get that it's fight or die, but why do we have to fight EVERYTHING?

My body wants to run away, to hide, to curl up in a ball and cry, but I can't. I'm 17 years old, so close to becoming an adult, but still acts like a little bitch. Why do I do this? I override what my instincts want to do and strike. I can't wait to go home. Or die. Whichever one comes first, don't really care at this point, as long one of them comes quick.

Alfonso was sick. Something had happened with the crocodiles, you didn’t know what, but he was writhing in pain, vomiting all over the jungle floor. You had knelt by his head and put your hands on the sides of his face, hoping it could help him feel less feverish. You didn’t know if it would, but there wasn’t much else you could do besides put him out of his misery, and you would prefer not to do that. Walter read him a story, a story you didn’t understand. Maybe he would be able to explain it to you better when Alfonso wasn’t keeled over.

He was better in the morning to keep moving. Walter got up on his back and you walked by their side, swinging your sword at the overgrown foliage in your way. The terrain you’d grown used to slowly made way to a blindingly bright field of pineapples. You touched your hand to one of the golden fruits and watched as the spines folded against your skin. This is dangerous, you thought. Too much open space, not enough cover.

The other tributes spotted you first. They were the first you’d seen since the Bloodbath. You didn’t remember their names, or where they were from, because it didn’t matter and you didn’t care to. They went for you first. One of the girls slammed her weapon into your chest, and as you stumbled back, another slashed deep into your back. You hiss at the pain, sharp and throbbing. It radiates through your torso like hazardous waste, slowly creeping down the street, burning holes through homes.

“Please don't take this personally,” the last girl had said. People are so obsessed with talking. Excuses, apologies, none of it means anything. You hold your hand up, opening and closing it to mock the way nobody can ever seem to shut the hell up. As if anybody here is going to be remembered for what they said before they died. They’ll only be remembered for dying.

The boy, the only boy in the group, tries to swing at you, but he misses. You grin. Nice try.

I gave him a fair warning as I passed him, but I hardly gave him time to realize what was going on before I attacked the ally he stood in front of. They didn't seem happy to see my weapon swing in their direction, but it was barely a hit at all. The spikes barely touched them and it was weird. The last two days, my weapon bore more blood than normal, and then now - it slacked.

Perhaps my mind was worried for Sarina's brother that I had crashed their stay room that one night. The Izars were someone I didn't want to see die in front of me. Sarina was my ally and her brother couldn't fall in front of his sister. That couldn't happen.

Though Sarina took my spot beside me, attacking this tribute with an 8 on their uniform. Her blade sunk deep in her skin and it's nice to see that Sarina's luck with the blade had been replaced with skill and once again, I fell in awe of her. Even the way she had told this tribute to not take it personally, they fought back without an ounce of remorse. A burning sensation dulled the back of my head and an instant wave of nausea hit my stomach.

"Fucks sake... Ow!" I reach to the back of my head and grimace as the blood coats my fingers and I look at Sarina. Again, I place my hand back to my head and try to gauge how bad the gash was before gripping my weapon once again. This time I almost swing it before Xavier somehow starts to attack this one as well leaving River to fight and fend for herself.

My mind whirls with doubt about his intentions.

"What the hell, Xavier - RIVER!" I yell at him and shove my way past him to stand in front. It's more of me pushing him in River's direction and my glare then returns to my target. It's simultaneous how quickly I dart past Sarina. How quickly I draw my weapon up.

Bodies will fall today but it won't be my own.

Hitting Alfonso was something that Sarina tried to stop me from doing, but her words were too late. I struck him, cutting into his hip. Angevin says Xavier's name, and then mine, but I ignore what she was saying specifically. With the adrenaline flowing through my veins, all I could focus on was fighting. Words didn't really matter right now. Even though I now realized that Alfonso was Sarina's brother, I wasn't going to stop.

"Sarina, only one of us can make it out alive," I told her as if she didn't already know. It didn't matter if she liked what I said or not. Again, words didn't really matter in this moment.

I wasn't someone who ever cared about my family. Although, I did understand that there were people who did get along with their families. If Sarina cared so much about her brother, though, I would have expected her to team up with him from the start, rather than choosing Angevin, Xavier and myself.

The two boys from the other alliance strike at Xavier while their ally used their weapon to hit Angevin. My response is to strike Alfonso again. I use my labrys to swing at him once more, hoping that, maybe this time, I can deliver a stronger hit. Would it make Sarina hate me if I did? Probably. Did that matter to me right now? Not particularly.

You tried to hold your breath as you pulled you sword back. You realized that Sarina had no clue what was happening. You were in pain, but you could not stop here. You did not want to die after all. You hated every moment of this, but you better. If this was how it was going to be, then you would simply fight until your last breath.

You just hated the fact that you had to die in front of your sister.

You knew that she might cave under pressure, and that was fine with you. She didn’t need to speak at this point. You didn’t want her mercy, and you didn’t want theirs either. Just because blood was thicker here, that did not mean that they should not attack you. You felt like you were dying anyway. That and you weren’t sure if you had anything to fight for.

You knew that you wanted Sarina to go home more than you.

You realized that Sarina and the boy you attacked had also made their way to Eloise, and that’s when you realized that this was not fair. ”Wow, some people you aligned with Sis.” you said as you held your blade up, taking note of where everyone was.

Then the girl that attacked you, River, had said something to Sarina.

”She is right Sarina…” you did echo that part of her words, but then you felt her axe slice right through your left hand. ”… And I sure hope it isn’t you.” You said to her in a deep growl as you tried to not scream in pain.

It didn’t work, a moment of silence far away from the howls that came from your mouth.

”You want to hurt me? I can make you hurt as much as you can.” You were no longer being friendly with the girl that just stole your hand. ”Watch me.” The machete was in your right hand, your strong hand. You only needed one in order to swing after all.

”Just watch me.” You gritted through your teeth, closing the distance between you and the boy.

Maybe his scream would sound just like yours.

At some point during the fight, something sliced through her chest with searing heat, but it wasn't any sword. She should know better that anyone that words were more powerful than any weapon, but the young boy's question still rattled her.

"Why are you letting your allies attack your brother?" She gritted her teeth in defiance, swinging her machete in the boy's direction but suppressing the urge to attack. "Why aren't you telling your allies to run when it would be safer that way?" she snapped. Amberly warned Alfonso. She warned him, she warned him. Why am I letting them attack? How dare you.

Alfonso's voice came next, in that familiar teasing way, but she knew that they wouldn't be laughing about this later. In mere seconds, River's axe separated her brother's hand from his wrist, and she felt the phantom sting in her own body, unable to stop the scream that ripped out of her own throat. The younger boy's words still echoed through her mind. Why are you letting your allies attack your brother? Why are you letting them attack?

Why was she doing this? Because Eight will kill me otherwise. She had charged at Eight first, though. Because Amberly needs my help. No, she didn't. Because Alfonso will kill Xavier. He'd cheated death for the past three days and he'd probably do it again.

Because River will kill me. And so could anyone else.

She thought of what the girl from Nine had told her, about only one person walking away, as if she didn't already know they were all doomed. It was almost like a cruel joke, making her watch her own brother die like Gabe had years ago. She had always prided herself on her willingness to lay everything on the line for her family, but now the line had been drawn and she was afraid to cross. The cost of her surviving would always be someone else's life, and she was not ready for Alfonso to pay that price.

Sarina felt that familiar rage bubbling within her like lava, except she wasn't in the training center putting on a show for the Gamemakers. An eruption would affect not only her, but everyone else that she had an inkling of love and respect for.

For now, she could merely seethe, the metaphorical smoke billowing from her mouth as she hissed, "Fuck you, River," before striking at the tribute from Eight again.

Maybe his nap was just not long enough. There is no dancing with his sword, no flesh to mark and no reward left behind on its blade. Don’t harm anyone, if they haven’t harmed you. Maybe that rule needs to be rewritten. Maybe it can be adjusted for the times he has ahead of him in this arena. Surely everyone is out to harm Wally, after all as they are all saying only one can really walk away from this. It may be Alfonso. It may be Wally himself. It may not even be anyone who is stood amongst the tangy fruit right now.

It is like the bloodbath all over again, all weapons go over his head and straight into the skin of his allies. It is a relief for sure, but he truly does not understand. Is it an ethical thing? Are they wanting to get rid of the harder targets and just sweep him up later? Wally has not been throwing down any strategy during his time in the arena, but he really would not waste his energy on doing this.

”Hey..” Wally’s eyes follow the motion of he District Ten girl’s hammer as it lands on Eloise’s knee. As soon as it makes contact, a rippling cringe expands across his body and he closes his eyes for a moment. They seem to be taking the full force of this other alliance. ”Hey uhh you…a…uhh- punk! Stop hurting them!” It is a plea he knows will go unheard but hopefully his sword will do enough impact to draw the attention.

I feel a hand on my back push me towards River's direction after I swing, followed by yelling something about her. My eyes with Amberly's. Her's are filled with rage and annoyance, a look I often received at home. Goddamnit I already fucked up in this fight. Good job. I should have noticed River. She probably needs more help than I do. I mean, probably not. She's River. I glance over at her swing at her target as she cuts off his hand. He looks familiar. Have I met him before?

He strikes me, giving me another small cut. I tighten the grip on my sword and look at River's and now my target again. I swear I know him from somewhere... My vision shifts towards. Sarina. He kinda looks like her a little bit. Could it be? I sure fucking hope not. I don't want to be the one to kill him if that's the case. I'll make sure to give River that honor. I don't think she's gotten a kill, has she? Whatever. What matters is that we make it out alive.

Something pierces my back, causing all of my are to be freed. Thinking becomes almost impossible as I intake as much as I possibly could, trying to regain focus. What the fuck. Stop thinking so much. This is why you always get fucking attacked. You don't pay attention to anything. Just shut up and fight. Help River. Don't die. Yet. Maybe tomorrow, but not today. Today you fight. You fucking loser.

The fight was going like this— a heavy weapon slammed straight into your knee, a deep gash down your cheek. You collapse to the ground, no longer able to support the weight of your body on a single leg. Even as you hit the ground, you keep your sword held tight, lest you drop it and let one of the other tributes grab it. Walter tries to shoo them off of you, a futile act. As he speaks, all you can hear is the sound of your bones breaking, a sick version of a shattering window— your knee the glass, the girl's weapon the brick.

Not that you had ever broken a window before, and if you had, you'd never tell. Little things like that were proving to be more and more unimportant, anyway.

Determination was always my strength. In this fight, it was strictly to make sure that Alfonso didn't die in front of his sister. To make sure that I didn't fall until the rest of my allies did first, and so far they've fared well enough through each battle, but it seems that my luck was running out. Even though I found a bit of divided joy in the sound of their broken leg, they fought to stay strong through the pain. A curled lip sauntered on my face and with Sarina's help and by my side, their face was no longer pristine and in perfect condition. The site of it alone made me grimace at the handiwork my ally had done.

A commotion came from beside me as the blade glinted in my direction before being coated with Xavier's blood, and a limb had found its home on the ground. Alfonso wasn't faring too well, and I found my throat emit a low growl.

This wasn't supposed to happen - not today.

Then I glanced in their direction just in time to feel the sharp, excruciating pain rip through my stomach and I reached for the blade without thinking to pull it away. I stumbled back, staggering as I clench the open wound pouring my own life out and realizing just how bad it really hurt to fight in the arena. The cuts were nothing but this...

... this was invigorating.

Avonlea's essence filled me as I gripped my weapon again, my fingers coating the hilt of the weapon with my own blood. "Hey, Sarina... let's finish this."
