She never expected to bring someone out at such a young age. It had been ages since four had done such a thing. Win that was. Annie was the first in almost 13 games, and surprisingly enough, Beck was next in line four games later. Annie thought she would have gone years before actually getting the chance to have someone take her mantel. Of course, she was still young, which meant that she would have to be active for just a little while longer. She would survive that, after all, her time as a victor has already been a little too much for her if she was being honest. He amount of alcohol that she had consumed since she had earned the crown would be enough to kill any normal person. But seeing as the Capitol had always been concerned about all the victors well being, seeing as they owned them at this point, she was sure they always found a way to make sure that she was healthy.
She did not have time for conspiracy theories. She was too focused on the fact that she needed to get away from everything, and that meant taking one of the capitolites hand outs for a spa day. Some of them were nice, she couldn’t deny that. However, there were still a good amount of people that she did not trust here. Annie knew that she could not act like this forever, because soon enough, people would forget about her and let her go. Sure, she might have been one of the most prolific victors to ever grace the streets of the capitol, but she knew that she wasn’t that special. She never felt like she was anyway.
She had sent out a couple invitations for people to join her. It wasn’t much, just the victors that she knew she could trust. It was weird, seeing as most of them were of the older crowd, but Annie didn’t mind it. At least there were a few that did like her. Sure, it would have been great for Annie to get along with people that had been more her age, but she wasn’t going to be one to complain. Saffron had always shown her what it was like to have someone care. Katelyn had been kind. Opal had been understanding. Shelby had been interested. That was all good enough for the girl who just had been so broken.
Maybe she would find a way to put herself back together.
Then there were the victors that she hadn’t even met. She didn’t know why she didn’t try, if she was being honest. Maybe other things kept popping up, or she had been way too embarrassed to introduce herself. She had always been a fool in that regard. Of course, she was not wrong to expect that most of the victors hated her. She was the one that got a deal of a life time. But they didn’t understand the position she would be in for a lifetime. That was the difference between them. At least the people they killed would stay dead. Not for Annie though. She would have to see them from time to time until the day she died.
That killed her.
But laying there on the bed with her face rested on her arms, she looked over and saw Saffron across from her. ”Thank you for coming with me.” Annie smiled at her, realizing that Saffron would be willing to drop whatever she was doing for her. That meant the world for her. To have someone that was always in her corner, after growing up in a world where anything she did was wrong? That was priceless.
”My head is still spinning.” Annie gave a light frown before taking a deep breath, waiting for the massage to commence.
