( Paks / d5f / attack )
The moment she'd been captured by the Peacekeepers, she knew it was her death sentence. They weren't about to let her live, not after trying to join up to be a rebel. The knowledge that she would die was just further cemented when she was Reaped for the 3rd Hunger Games. Weak, tortured, and with no history of fighting it would be surprising if someone like her would make it out alive. Besides, she wasn't planning on killing innocent kids and would hardly start a fight unless it was to protect someone. Paks figured it wasn't a bad way to end her life: doing her best to protect another.
Even though Paks had been prepared to die, nothing could prepare her for what happened. It was so quick, and Paks had no time to react to the situation. She'd been focused on the girl who had attacked Alexei, and had lost focus of the rest of the arena. While that didn't prove fatal - yet, it would prove to be a really dumb move. The voice of the boy- a killer's voice - made her go cold. She'd never fought a real fight, especially not against someone who killed so easily. It made her uneasy, her grip loosened and before she knew what happened her left hand was gone.
Pain blurred her vision, and she fought the urge to scream. It's what they all wanted and she could hear the cheers in the background...or was that her blood rushing in her ears? It was all so loud. Gritting her teeth, she glanced at her fake armor set hoping to find some cloth to tear off and wrap around her new stump. She may have lost her hand, but she couldn't afford to lose her wits. If she did, well she'd be no use to the girl she was trying to protect. She tore off a part of the Cape- what a stupid thing to have on in a fight to their death - and wrapped it as tightly as she could manage with just a single hand. It was the only thing she could do for the moment.
"We shouldn't be fighting each other," Paks said, glaring at the boy who took her hand. "We should refuse to fight each other, then these games would end. Without entertainment, they would serve no use."
If she were honest, she'd rather they all took up arms and tried to break out of here. They were so many and they were armed. Besides, even if they were killed trying they could down as Matyrs. The Capitol wouldn't get what they wanted, not like that. Unfortunately, without a hand, who would listen to her? The rest would see her as weak, not a leader and no speech would be enough to move this crowd of children into fighting against the Capitol with their last breaths. Most were terrified and wanted to go home. Not everyone was as prepared to die as Paks was.
Before she could make any further decisions, another burst of pain and so much red. By now, all she could smell was iron and her head was getting fuzzy. It was getting harder to concentrate and she heard the metal fall to the ground before she realized wbat she was missing: her other hand. Instinctively, she curled her hand into a fist....well, she would have, if she had a hand. In her mind, she did and she felt her fingers even if they were no longer attached to her body. Now that her focus had been on the boy, the girl attacked. She barely even noticed Alexei joining in the fray, which was the very thing she was trying to prevent. Nothing was going according to plan.
Well, Paks wasn't going to give up. She expected that everyone wanted her to scream, to beg for her life, and to curl into a ball and give up. Paks wasn't like that, however, and she wouldn't easily break in this arena. She tried her best to concentrate, to see despite her vision bring blurry.
"We should be fighting them," Paks said, lifting her bloody stump and pointing at the people watching. "Not each other."
It was a mere repeat of what she'd said earlier, but she was beginning to lose it and had forgotten she'd spoken before. Her head was swimming, and she knew that she wouldn't be much longer. Still, she wouldn't go down without doing anything. She still had legs! She wasn't completely useless. Having come to a decision, she ran forward with all her strength, hoping to tackle the other girl.
