"fools" said i, "you do not know
silence like a cancer grows
hear my words that I might teach you
It's a bad habit, the way you shift to position yourself between Steel and the stone lizards. You're not such a good person that you do it on purpose, it's just so trained into you — protect Charlie, always protect Charlie; that's what you're for, that's what we're all for — that suddenly you're positioned there without thinking about it.
When your cheek is sliced open, a truly shallow part of you is even more upset than you were over the paper crane fully stabbing itself through your palm. This hurts your vanity far more than it hurts your body, and yet the pain is truer because if you lose your pretty face then you're fairly certain that means you don't have anything left. "Not the face!" You screech, gasping with indignation.
"GET OFF OF ME!" Steel suddenly screams, the lizards overrunning her in your absence. Distracted by the attack on your vanity, the creatures lunge and manage to climb up her shoulders to swipe at her head. Blood seeps from her hairline and down her neck. Your stomach sinks. You shouldn't have allowed that to happen. It's your neglect that did this as much as it is the lizards. Steel gasps and falters, turning her face toward you as if to investigate whether you look as guilty as you feel. "They're not going away."
"Stop whining." Taken aback, you do a double take between Steel's fresh wound and Perdita's blunt chastising. "I'll deal with this one. Surely both of you can handle the other one." With brutal focus, she unleashes another crossbow bolt directly into the back of the stone lizard nearest her. It buries itself deep. With you finally out of her way, it's obvious that she's more than competent enough to take that one down on her own.( C H O O S E Y O U R O W N A D V E N T U R E )
( You hit... )
Your brow furrows, but now isn't the time to stop and contemplate the implications of your latest realization. If Perdita's that much better off without you then it's hard to say why you're here to begin with. The only thing you can sort out before turning your sights back to the battle at hand is that this is a question better kept to yourself. Nothing good can come from pointing out how your presence does little except hold her back.
Attempting to once again position yourself between Steel and the heavily wounded lizard, you take a deep breath and swing your falcata once again. Maybe this time you can prove that you're not just here to be dead weight.( You miss... )
Self-doubt takes root and it's as if the pain in your wounded hand springs through the air to touch fire into your weapon-wielding hand as well. Infected, it shakes slightly — the falcata quaking in the air no matter how desperately you tell yourself to pull it together. Panicking over the moment of weakness, you impulsively swing at the creature nearest you in hopes of masking your trembling. The blade goes laughably wide and so you pull it back the other way, trying again. Twice as reckless as before, you hit nothing except air and begin slashing like mad. "I don't wanna fight any more stupid monsters!" You yell, frustration spitting through your teeth. Be it birds, mist-cats, or stone lizards — you're over it. All of it. You don't understand why you can't catch a break for once.take my arms that i might reach you"
but my words like silent raindrops fell
and echoed in the wells of silence
niko attacks greisen, falcata
