I have become tired of everything that I have.
Things and people fall through my hand, like sand in a sieve, looking for the glimmer of permanence, the gold of a memory. Very little ever bothered my father -- and now, perched on the slopes of an untouchable place, I understand the boredom.
A god of rain stretches her limbs and pours over the fields, basking in the sunlight she alone enjoys for as long as she cascades her divinity down on cities and valleys. What is a flood to a god. What is a human, a speck in the distance she barely registers, drowning in her waters, to a god?
The last time I walked around the city center, I was no one yet, not yet of any value before death gave to me an endless supply of calla lilies, condolence cards, and an inheritance. I haven't gone anywhere without my guards for a year, but I've become tired of everything that I have. I’m tired of business meetings with sly foxes and old idiots, and champagne and formalities and gala dinners, and all the suitcases of money and missing fingers. There is nothing left to conquer.
Someone try to kill me. Just for fun.
No one tries to snipe me, as they had once before in the early days of my father’s death.
But someone runs into me, tripping us over onto the ground. He looks me in the eyes and we’re still on the pavement, but he says "Can you be my girlfriend for like two minutes?"
